Among Legendary Pokémon, many had unusual temperaments. Some searched for kind hearts, some chased natural energy, and others pursued ideals or truth.
But if you had to say which Legendary Pokémon fell into the destructive and chaotic group, who would they be?
There really weren't many. If you had to list them, there were only three.
The light-starved Necrozma after being sealed, the energy-starved Eternatus, and the awakened Yveltal!
If you had to say it, only these three qualified.
Necrozma was like that because the people of Ultra Megalopolis had stolen its light long ago. It had also been sealed for a very long time. That caused its temperament to become extremely violent and unstable.
You could see this clearly from its Pokédex entries.
Eternatus was like that because of its natural traits. Eternatus was a Pokémon that could not survive without energy. Energy was its lifeline. Therefore, no matter what, it had to have energy.
That was why Eternatus caused the Darkest Day thousands of years ago. At the time, it wanted to absorb the energy of the entire Galar region to refill itself. It nearly destroyed all of Galar.
If Zacian and Zamazenta had not stopped it, the Galar region would have been finished.
But for Eternatus, this was only instinctive behavior to keep itself alive.
Of course, Eternatus itself did not care whether the Galar region lived or died.
However, in the end, whether it was Necrozma or Eternatus, both had a reason.
But Yveltal was different.
"Giving" and "Taking." These were the words Lysandre used to describe the essence of the two Legendary Pokémon, Xerneas and Yveltal.
In the Pokédex, Yveltal itself is classified as the Destruction Pokémon. Its existence stands for death and destruction.
It is just like how Zekrom seeks ideals and Reshiram seeks truth. That is why they exist.
For Yveltal, the core of its existence is exactly this.

Damian let out a short laugh. He was not surprised at all.
"Dark Nova."
Shadow Mewtwo Y appeared in front of Damian in an instant. It raised its right arm high as purple-black energy continued to gather, forming a massive sphere.
The Dark-type move, Dark Nova!

Dark Nova and Oblivion Wing slammed into each other. Powerful shockwaves burst out wildly. The purple-black and crimson energy lit up the sky and the ground.
But then something happened that Yveltal never expected.
Only moments after the two moves collided, Oblivion Wing was crushed outright by Dark Nova.
Dark Nova did not stop. It quickly flew toward Yveltal and slammed into its body.
Boom!
Like a supernova exploding, a massive roar echoed across the world. The purple-black energy surged outward and swallowed the entire sky.
Yveltal's entire body was battered by the wild impact of Dark Nova's energy, and it let out a cry of pain.
Even though Yveltal is a Dark-type Pokémon and resists Dark Nova, it still hurt far too much.
There was another loud blast. As the tide of energy from Dark Nova slowly faded, Yveltal's body looked a mess, but it still managed to stay in the air.
However, it was clearly only barely holding on.
"Shadow Mewtwo has become stronger again."
Caitlin's eyes flickered slightly as she looked at Shadow Mewtwo Y's small body and sensed the change.
There was no doubt that Shadow Mewtwo Y's strength had increased again.
"Of course it has." Damian's smile widened slightly.
Shadow Mewtwo was the first Legendary Pokémon he had obtained. He had also watched it improve with his own eyes. Damian valued Shadow Mewtwo very highly.
Moreover, for Damian, Shadow Mewtwo was one of his most useful Pokémon. Its potential was also tremendous.
Therefore, after finishing the experiments with the Dread Plate and confirming that it would not affect a Dark-type Pokémon's mind, Damian let Shadow Mewtwo hold the Dread Plate.

Yveltal's sharp cry echoed across the sky. It beat its wings hard and rushed toward Shadow Mewtwo Y at high speed.
A red bird-shaped flame formed around its body. It was the Flying-type move, Sky Attack.
It wanted to ram that black thing to death!
"Thunder!"
Damian laughed softly when he saw this.
Shadow Mewtwo Y stayed calm. It stretched out its right hand toward the incoming Yveltal as golden lightning crackled around it.
The Electric-type move, Thunder!
Boom!
A massive bolt of lightning struck the incoming bird head-on. Yveltal's charging body stopped instantly. The Thunder attack tore through Yveltal's body.
Before long, the powerful lightning tore through the flames of Sky Attack and struck Yveltal's body with violent force.
Yveltal let out a cry of pain. Thunder, an Electric-type move, was super effective against Flying types. This hit hurt much more than the Dark Nova from before.
With a loud crash, Yveltal finally could not hold on anymore. Smoke covered its body as it fell from the sky and slammed heavily into the ground.
This Thunder was simply too much for it.
"That was relatively easy." Damian looked at Yveltal lying on the ground in the distance.
Defeating Yveltal was actually not difficult for him. Even though it was a Pokémon that represented Destruction, Yveltal's overall strength was only somewhat higher than that of a normal top-tier Legendary Pokémon.
It was still far from the top Legendary Pokémon. However, the next part—the capture—would be the hardest.
Damian was thinking about whether he should have Shadow Mewtwo Y use another Thunder to put Yveltal fully to sleep when Shadow Mewtwo Y suddenly looked toward a spot not far away.
Damian also seemed to sense something. He turned his gaze to the left.
On a patch of gray earth, a slender blue-and-black deer had appeared at some point. It stood there, looking toward them.
Its antlers sparkled with many colors. From a distance, they looked as if they were glowing with rainbow light. It was striking.
It was Xerneas.
"Is that... Xerneas?" Caitlin recognized it at once.
The kind and gentle aura of this Pokémon was very rare. Caitlin remembered it almost immediately.
"Yes. It probably sensed Yveltal waking up, so it rushed over."
Damian was not surprised at all. The rivalry between Xerneas and Yveltal was the fiercest among the Legendary pairs of any region.
The kind Xerneas and the violent Yveltal—their relationship was obvious.
If Xerneas had not been cleaning up Yveltal's messes, at least half of Kalos would have turned into dead land. That was the minimum.
It was only because of the kind and selfless Xerneas that the Kalos region was still safe today.
Actually, Damian truly felt that both Xerneas and Yveltal had major problems.
Yveltal lived only for extreme destruction, while Xerneas was also too extreme in its kindness.

Even Ho-Oh couldn't do it.
Although Ho-Oh has immense life force and can even revive the dead, it is actually very selective about people.
If it dislikes a human, it will simply ignore them.
But Xerneas is different. It treats all life equally. It is compassionate to its core.
You could say that Xerneas is the closest thing to a saint in the Pokémon world.

How many years has it been? No one knows. But Xerneas has always been the same. It has never regretted it or hesitated.
This alone showed how great Xerneas truly was.
"Skree!!!"
At that moment, the heavily injured Yveltal also saw Xerneas approaching. It let out a sharp cry at the deer.
But the hit from Thunder had been too heavy, so it was very hard for it to fly again right now.
However, Xerneas completely ignored Yveltal's warning. It continued approaching step by step.
When Yveltal saw the rainbow deer ignoring it like that, it grew even angrier. Black-and-red energy gathered.
But in the next moment.
A pink sphere of energy struck first and blasted into Yveltal's body.
It was Xerneas's Moonblast!
Boom!
Moonblast exploded. Yveltal cried out in pain, and its body dropped weakly to the ground.
Moonblast was super effective, so the pain was intense. Yveltal was already in terrible condition.
"It has been another thousand years, Yveltal. You are still the same. Look at this land you ruined."
Xerneas slowly walked up to Yveltal and let out a helpless sigh. The disappointment and pity in its eyes made Yveltal cry out in anger again.
"Even in this state, do you still want to attack me? How pathetic."
The gentle telepathy did not stop Xerneas's movements. It raised its right leg and brought it down directly on Yveltal.

Yveltal's head snapped to the side, and it blacked out on the spot.
After coldly stomping Yveltal unconscious, Xerneas raised its head slightly. Its kind eyes looked around the area, and it let out another sigh.

"Maybe... the only life Xerneas doesn't love is Yveltal?"
