Chapter 8 - The Tale Of The Missing Brother (2)

After Milo realized that his Boss had not reached Metro V, his first reaction was to call the Valken family's home line.

This was when the rest of the Valken family members had gotten word about their heir's strange disappearance.

The family's forces were quick to get into action and trace the steps that Detrim had taken after leaving home.

An hour before his flight, Detrim had left the Valken Mansion with his luggage and was on his way to the airport, which was less than twenty minutes away from home.

After going through the surveillance footage from the airport, they were sure that the CEO had never entered its premises.

This meant that something must have gone wrong during the short twenty-minute drive from home to the airport.

As Teluson was a country that promoted wildlife and greenery, even the cities had trees planted all around.

There were two routes that could be taken from the Valken Mansion to reach the airport.

One which was connected to the main street and was always congested due to traffic while the other was a road often neglected.

This second route was the one which Detrim had chosen to reach his destination ahead of time by avoiding the traffic on the main street.

However, this route was one that passed through the midst of a slightly less populated area covered with woods, which was also the reason why it had been so neglected.

As it was away from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets, there had been sightings of small animals in and around that area.

They moved around freely and people avoided that place as Teluson had strict rules and penalties for hit-and-run cases where animals were involved.

Thus, this route was rarely used and done only if it was absolutely necessary.

"Detrim must have thought that it was faster and chose to go through that way," Uri explained why he was reminding Nita about that neglected area of the city.

The guards of the Valken family had checked the surveillance footage from all cameras covering the main streets and found no sight of Detrim's car.

However, they found him making the turn that would lead him onto that neglected path, a place where, unfortunately, there were no surveillance cameras ahead.

If one were to venture that path at night, they would not be able to see even their own feet because of the lack of streetlights there.

Therefore, it would be a miracle to find a camera in such an abandoned part of the city.

The guards were sure that the Young Master must have taken that path and hence they headed in its direction to find what might have happened.

"They found his car abandoned there with droplets of his blood scattered around." The troubled father's eyes darkened when he recalled the sight he had seen on that day.

Long skid marks from the tires, made when a vehicle comes to a screeching halt, led them to the car which had smashed into the trunk of a tree on the side of the road.

However, there was only one set of tire marks on the road, implying that his accident wasn't caused by colliding with or being driven off the road by some other car.

"He lost control of his car?" Nita finally voiced out her thoughts despite how ridiculous they sounded to her.

Her elder brother had taught her how to drive and as far as she was aware, he was a trained and skilled racer.

Despite being a speed lover, he would never do anything that would put himself or anyone around him in danger due to his reckless speeding.

Therefore, she was sure that he would not have lost control of his car without any valid explanation.

"Some animal must have jumped in front of his car," Uri revealed his theory of what might have taken place, which made her nod.

Detrim surely would have tried to steer away from the animal and lost control of his car in the process, driving it off the road and into the tree.

"Then what about the blood?" Nita questioned, finding it odd that her brother bled from such a minor accident.

"The police found a bullet casing." Father Valken disclosed the cause of the blood they had found.

Since Milo was the one who found out that the CEO was missing, a few others from the office had also figured it out.

The members of the board were the ones who called the police to help them find the man who had gone missing in broad daylight within their city.

The guards of the Valken family were asked to cooperate with the police investigation and after receiving the green light from their patriarch, they agreed and have worked together ever since.

"How could a bullet harm Brother?" Nita was still confused about what was happening.

First, the choice of using the road less taken, then losing control of the car, and now, a bullet casing found near the accident scene with Detrim's blood splattered around.

Things seemed odd to Nita but there was something far more bizarre than everything she had heard so far.

Even if someone had shot at her brother, there was no way that they could have injured him enough to make him bleed on the ground.

"The casing was made of silver." The reply she received from her father cleared every doubt she had in mind.

If the bullet was made of any other kind of metal, Nita would have rolled her eyes, even calling her brother weak for bleeding out from such a minor injury.

However, the name she had heard was not one to be joked about.

Argentum, the Latin name of the element with an atomic number of 47, uses the symbol Ag.

The only element created in nature that was capable of causing them harm.

Silver, the shiny and pretty metal which most used in cutlery and even jewelry, was something they could not touch.

In a world where their very existence was a secret, Nita and many others like her were forced to live in the shadows so as to not expose their true identity.

After all, this secret made them stand apart from the rest of the human race.

"Who do you suspect wanted to harm Brother?" Nita's red eyes narrowed dangerously as she sat up straight, displaying that she was no longer languid and indifferent to what was taking place around her.

Being made aware of the fact that someone had utilized a custom-made silver bullet, Nita was confident that this certain someone had sinister motives towards Detrim in mind when they approached him in that secluded part of the city.

Therefore, Nita was now curious to figure out who had the most to gain from the disappearance of the current heir of the Valken family.
