Chapter 1 - Accident

There was chaos in the bus, a whole amount of chaos. It wasn't the type of chaos that was life-threatening or end of the world but it was the chaos that was a nightmare for the sensible adults on the bus. The cause of the chaos on the bus was only one thing. Teenagers.

Right here on the bus, they were having the time of their life. Loud chatter and raucous laughter, throwing of papers, books, pens, and even a bra, some were even making out and some were doing what they do best, bullying.

Kyle Anderson was one of the unlucky ones as he sat in the third row inside the bus. He was sitting quietly, nursing the black eye he had gotten for not getting out of Jayden Berry's supposed seat on time and he had paid the price for it. As he sat, he began to contemplate he was going to explain it to his strict mother without feeling stupid.

Meanwhile, the perpetrator of the facial crime he had committed was snogging with one of the hot cheerleaders in his former seat, his hands all over her boobs and her hair, snogging like he had gotten French kissing lessons from a French Milf in France.

Kyle sighed inaudibly as he turned back to stare out of the window, stare at the bright sun, the clear blue sky, and the trees as they drove leisurely on the road. While looking, he gazed at his reflection. He was of average height, with brown hair and green eyes with a small birthmark beside both of them. He felt ordinary, like an NPC in a game or a little footnote in a comprehensive book. He hated it but that was his life. There was nothing he could do to change it, he just had to fake a grin and bear it.

He couldn't fight the urge not to look back and so he did. He stealthily turned to stare at his tormentor and his babe. He wished he didn't.

Like his luck suddenly turning dry, Jayden's eyes snapped open and he stared at him. Kyle winced as Jayden glared at him with disgust and anger.

"What the hell are you looking at?!" Jayden spat at him as he broke the kiss from the pissed cheerleader who hadn't expected that. "Mind your business or else you'll receive another black eye."

Kyle hurriedly turned away, mentally kicking himself for getting caught. He turned to his left and stared at the young girl across from him who was browsing on her phone and paying no heed to the chaos.

She was Latino, with long, dark hair and clear green eyes, a slight dimple to her cheeks, her beauty was outstanding and she knew it, her face cold as ice, untouchable in her own way, and a magnet for the boys who knew having her was bragging rights for the end of high school. That was how popular she was even though she was not a cheerleader. Her assets were something else, her curvy waist and behind supple and profile to the extent that boys smacked into poles and tripped up on their own feet as they stared at them.

As Kyle stared at her, he still couldn't believe that he had once dated her. He had once dated Sekena and he could not believe it.

Back then, Serena was just like him, invisible, ignored, bullied, and a geek. They had formed a friendship that had grown into love. Kyle would do anything for her, anything. His first girlfriend and he was happy. But in the end, he found out that Selena wasn't.

She had stopped loving him and he never knew it. He also found out that she wanted to escape the nerd life, her social life failure, and her lack of popularity. She wanted to be somebody else. She wanted to be special, to be wanted. Being with him would not help achieve what she wanted.

She dumped him by text on a rainy evening. No explanation, just a finality, and his heart turned bleak, shame swallowed him that he never knew that they were falling apart. He had tried to find her, begged for them to work it out, to try and renew what was once. She ghosted him , the next week she came back a totally different person. Untouchable and irresistible, she became a force to be reckoned with and he, he was once a shadow left behind.

"Please stop staring at me like that, Kyle." Selena sighed, her focus still on the phone.

Kyle snapped out of his reverie the moment he heard her soft voice, shame coursing through him. "Sorry," he blurted out. "Uh, you look good."

"Tell me something I don't know." Selena coldly replied, not looking up. "I suggest you fuck off before my boyfriend catches you staring at me again. He knows you're my ex."

Like a switch being on, Kyle hadn't noticed when Marcus Splint had materialized behind him, his usual cold look 9n his face, his cold blue eyes staring at him the way a man gazed at a cockroach he was about to squash.

"I've caught you again, staring at her like a freak, haven't I?" He spoke, the words rolling smoothly out of his mouth. "You keep on trying to get me pissed off. The dustbin I told Jayden to beat and dump you in last month was not enough so you want more. Is that it?"

"Relax, bro," Kyke muttered weakly. "It's just a reflex." He snapped his mouth shut as if he had just realized what he said. Staring at someone's girlfriend was a reflex, how stupid could he get?

Marcus raised an eyebrow.. "Interesting, so staring at my girlfriend multiple times is a reflex. That's a new excuse I've not heard before. Also, I'm not your bro and never will be. You disgust me."

Kyle nodded quickly, doing everything to make sure that Marcus left and also not with him in a body bag.

Marcus isn't down his eyes levelling with Kyle. "You've always been a fucking loser, you fumbled Selena so bad Luke spilling milk. You have the guts to be simping on her, acting a fool up and down as if you have no shame. When will you grow up?"

Kyle was about to speak when suddenly, a tree toppled over. A huge one, the bus never saw it coming. Kyle just heard the sound and turned just to see a huge tree, tall as a skyscraper, toppling over, and the next thing he knew.

Darkness.

And his life will never be the same.
