Chapter 87 - Arrival of the True Blood

The jagged peak of the ridge shook as a blinding arc of gold and silver light pierced the suffocating violet fog.

BOOM!

With a thunderous crash, Princess Vaelora's starlight Luminar leaped over the final rocky barrier, landing heavily onto the frozen summit. The impact of her horse's hooves sent a shockwave of pure celestial magic rippling across the stone, momentarily blowing back the writhing black vipers of Draeven's Shadow Hex.

Vaelora leaped from her saddle before the horse had even come to a complete stop. Her eyes scanned the clearing through the swirling ash, and then, her breath caught in her throat.

There, lying motionless in the freezing mud, was Azeal.

His royal armor was shattered, his face was deathly pale, and a dark, parasitic frost was slowly crawling up his neck. The Star Fire Sword lay cold and grey just inches from his limp, trembling fingers. He looked so fragile, so broken—a stark contrast to the proud, brilliant prince who had held her hand in the darkness of the Shadow Abyss.

"Azeal!" Vaelora screamed, a sound of pure, unmitigated agony that seemed to tear from her very soul.

She took a desperate step toward him, but Draeven Zareth stepped into her path, his staff still humming with lethal purple energy. His broken nose had left dried black blood smeared across his mouth, making his triumphant grin look even more monstrous.

"Ah, the little princess arrives just in time to watch the end of her dynasty," Draeven hissed, his voice dripping with venomous pleasure. "You are too late, Vaelora. His soul is already ours."

Something inside Vaelora snapped.

The profound, crushing grief of losing King Aetheron, Lord Kaelor, and Lady Seraphine collapsed into a singular, white-hot point of absolute, terrifying rage. The air around her began to vibrate violently. The heavy gold crown of Solthera on her head flared with a brilliant, blinding solar light, casting long, sharp shadows across the entire summit.

Her eyes, normally a soft, deep amber, flushed completely gold—glowing with the ancient, raw power of the first sovereigns.

"Step. Away. From him," she whispered.

The sheer force of her voice carried a physical shockwave that cracked the stone beneath Draeven's boots. The wind shifted violently, howling around her like a pack of wolves, whipping her dark hair and her silver-and-gold scale armor into a frenzy.

Draeven's grin faltered slightly. For a brief second, his dark eyes widened as he felt the staggering, crushing weight of her magical presence. But his greed and arrogance quickly took over. He slammed his staff into the ground, summoning a towering wall of black, screaming specters between them.

"You are nothing but a frightened girl playing with a stolen crown!" Draeven roared, his face twisting in fury. "Zhalver will consume you!"

"I am the storm that will destroy you," Vaelora answered, her voice cold and resonant.

With a fluid, lethal motion, she drew both of her Midnight Daggers. The blades did not just glow; they ignited with a brilliant, golden-white starlight that completely banished the darkness around her. She did not run—she blurred.

To Draeven's horror, she bypassed the wall of specters entirely, reappearing directly in front of him. Her golden daggers flashed in a downward arc, striking his obsidian staff with a deafening, metallic CRACK that sent a blinding explosion of gold and purple light screaming into the sky.
