Chapter 73 - The Unfinished Oath

The blaring echoes of the Vaelcry tore through the Capital, leaving no room for hesitation. Prince Azeal tightened his grip on the hilt of the Star Fire Sword, its blue flames reflecting the fierce determination in his eyes.

"I will hold the front lines," Azeal said, looking deeply into Vaelora's eyes. "We need time. Do what you must."

With a final nod to King Aetheron and Lord Kaelor, Azeal turned and charged toward the city gates alongside the Drazhin soldiers, rushing headfirst into the incoming storm. Vaelora did not follow him to the battlefield immediately. While the crown of the Seven Kingdoms now rested upon her head—placed there in a rushed but sacred moment by the High Seer—she knew that fighting with weapons alone wouldn't save them tonight.

By crowning her, the High Seer had shattered centuries of archaic laws. The old decree stating that only a prince could inherit the high seat was officially proven false. The Book of Origins had made it undeniable: only the true, royal bloodline mattered, regardless of gender. But that victory felt hollow now, because the deeper, terrifying truth written in those cosmic pages was already beginning to unfold.

Their marriage ritual beneath the Starfall Tree had been cut short. They were not fully united, and the balance required to hold the high magic of the realm was broken.

Vaelora sprinted back through the panicked corridors of the palace, her royal cape billowing behind her as she entered the secluded chambers of the Grand Library. The Book of Origins lay open upon a stone altar, its pages turning rapidly on their own, pulsing with an aggressive, blinding gold light.

She leaned over the ancient text, her sharp eyes tracing the glowing scripts. Her heart sank. The prophecy was coming alive in real-time. The text warned that an incomplete union of the true bloodline during a time of war would trigger the apocalyptic fracturing of their world. The very ground beneath Solthera began to vibrate with a low, cosmic hum. The disaster had already been set in motion.

Meanwhile, outside the high white walls of Solthera, the true scale of the invasion was visible.

Draeven Zareth was not leading the vanguard himself. Instead, standing at the apex of the hill, commanding the massive, terrifying army, was his ruthless son, Malakor.

Malakor stood clad in obsidian armor, a cruel smirk cutting across his face. He didn't just command Draeven's loyal, elite guards. Behind him stood the combined, massive military might of three distinct realms: Draeven's own forces, the grand army of his wife's kingdom under Queen Elara Zareth, and a third allied kingdom that had betrayed Solthera for power. Thousands of armored soldiers stretched across the horizon, their dark banners fluttering under the violet sky.

"Break their gates!" Malakor's voice boomed, raising his heavy broadsword.

"No matter how much blood must be spilled, we will claim the Throne of the Seven Kingdoms."

With a thunderous roar, the combined forces of the three kingdoms charged forward, crashing violently into Solthera's outer defenses.

At the gates, Prince Azeal stood as a wall of blazing blue fire. Every sweep of the Star Fire Sword cut through Malakor's vanguard, but for every soldier he struck down, five more took their place. The sheer numbers of the enemy were overwhelming. Arrows rained down like a dark storm, and the sounds of clashing steel and desperate battle cries filled the night.

Inside the palace, Vaelora stared at the final lines of the glowing prophecy as the walls around her began to crack. The cataclysm was coming, the wedding was unfinished, and Malakor's massive army was pushing closer to the heart of the kingdom every second.
