The carriage moved at a steady, unhurried pace, the kind meant to signal importance rather than urgency.

Eight hours had passed like this. At least the carriage was pleasant enough and see couldn't complain about the view either.

Aria sat angled toward the window, one gloved finger tracing an invisible pattern along the edge of the glass, her gaze unfocused despite the shifting landscape outside.

She looked around with a groan.

She let her hand fall back into her lap.

"I was very clear," she said, to no one in particular , remembering how she protested his gifts and his blatant refusal.

"I said no."
