Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 - The Knight vs Dragon

I woke up. Cold, sweating, and sore on my back. I look around, and see my brother laying across from me. "Wait a minute, what's that strange symbol that's on his face?" Then it hit me that we were stuck in a cave. I tried getting up, but collapsed against the floor as my body gave up. I tried saying my brother's name to wake him up "Hielgar.. Hielgar wakes up." But talking felt useless as my voice started to fade away.

I began asking myself. "What happened? How did we end up here? Where are we? Are we really going to die here?" The ceiling started to become blurry, and then my life began to flash in my eyes. I have memories of when I was a kid. "One day I was on the playground playing a game called the Knight and Dragon. We would choose someone to be the knight, the princess, and the dragon. I would always end up being chosen as the dragon. I always hated it. The knight would come, and rescue the princess from the fire breathing dragon. The knight would always beat the dragon, and save the princess. I've always thought why'd the dragon have to lose all the time." I instantly get up breathing rapidly. The sensation of adrenaline kicked in my body. I gave all my strength to get up. It felt like carrying a large boulder on my back. My arms tried standing up with all my strength, but it felt impossible. At that moment I felt like I'd given up but this time "the dragon won't lose. This time the result would change. This time the dragon wouldn't stand there and do nothing!" I pushed myself beyond my limits and finally stood up. I rushed over to Hielgar and started aggressively pushing him to wake up. "Huh, what happened?"

"Hielgar thank goodness you're awake. I woke up, and saw you laying over here, so I woke you up. But that's beside what's important right now, don't you remember what happened. We passed out and were still stuck in this cave."

"What is that on your face?"

"I don't know, but you have it as well. Look right now we need to find a way out okay, so get up!"

Hielgar grunts as he gets up. We both start panicking looking for an escape until I see a hole at the bottom of the cave wall.

"Hielgar, look there's a hole, maybe that's our way out."

"Well there's only one way to find out," Hielgar says while still dozing off.

I cramp myself into the hole squeezing my way through. It's very narrow and only allows a bit of space for myself to continue crawling. At the end I'm finally able to crawl through the entire thing. I released a sigh of relief thinking I wouldn't be able to crawl through the whole thing. I yell over to Hielgar to crawl through it, and it's safe but right when I look up I see a bright shine that instantly hits my eyes almost blinding me. It was the hole in the roof of the cave approximately 30 feet tall. I was baffled by the scenery of the bright sun, and was able to get a glimpse of the trees and plants in the background. I looked around the cave area and realised there's nothing else, no hole, route, path, anything a dead end.

Hielgar crawls from the cave hole and is shunned by the light as he tries covering his eyes with his arm. He too is astonished by the scene. So close yet so far from freedom.
