A strange silence spread across the clearing.
"She escaped?" Viktor asked with a strange calmness.
Gregor averted his eyes in shame.
"Yes…"
Viktor stared at him, his eyes gradually showing more and more anger.
Even a slight grinding noise, like teeth grinding against themselves could be heard.
"YOU!... You let her go!?" He yelled loudly, even the unconscious shapeshifter on the ground that had reverted back to his human flinched.
Gregor swallowed and took a step back.
"I… I didn't mean to, this dog attacked me, and she took the chance to escape."
Viktor's jaw muscles flexed under his skin.
When has he ever been this mad?
Probably not in four hundred years.
Gregor smiled embarrassedly and took a step forward.
"Don't worry, if we chase after her, we can soon catch up."
Viktor's head snapped towards him.
"You idiot! Have you forgotten about her ability!?"
Gergor's expression froze.
Yes. He had forgotten. Damn!
He lowered his head, this time he had truly messed up!
Just then Cessian arrived.
"What are you screaming about? I could hear you from a thousand meters that way." He said and pointed towards the way he came.
Viktor turned to him with a ferocious expression.
"This idiot let Victoria escape!" He yelled and pointed towards Gregor.
A surprised expression crossed Cessian's face.
"What!"
He looked towards Gregor with a questioning gaze.
"Is this true?"
Gregor lowered his head.
"Yes…"
Cessian's calm face contorted in anger.
Just then Gregor pointed towards the unconscious shapeshifter.
"But… but it wasn't my fault… not entirely, this damn mutt attacked me!"
He side stepped and kicked the shapeshifter in the stomach.
The shapeshifter grunted and curled up in pain, still unconscious.
Cessian didn't even look at the shapeshifter, his gaze was locked on Gregor.
Gregor noticed this and knew that his long time friend was indeed very angry.
In the end, seeing no way out, Gregor lowered his head in shame.
"I'm sorry, it was my fault…"
The anger on Cessian and Viktor's faces eased slightly.
Hmph.
They turned their heads away.
"At least you know."
Cessian rubbed the back of his head.
"How are we supposed to explain this to the master?" Cessian asked worriedly.
Viktor scoffed.
"Just tell the truth: Gregor messed up."
Cessian shook his head.
"The master doesn't care who messes up, just that the mission wasn't completed."
Viktor clicked his tongue, but he knew Cessian was right.
"Should we chase her?" Gregor hesitantly asked.
Viktor licked the inside of his cheek.
"No point… we can't catch her anyways."
Cessian sighed.
"Viktor, is right."
Gregor lowered his head again. He was truly ashamed.
They stood there for a few seconds before Cessian spoke again.
"Let's head back, no use in drawing it out."
Everyone tacitly agreed.
Just as they were leaving Cessian spotted the disgusting looking James.
"What did you do to make him look like this?" He asked incredulously.
Gregor looked at James.
"What? Him? Heheh."
Seeing him laugh like this, even Viktor was attracted.
"Just spit it out, no need to keep us in suspense." Viktor complained, he was indeed curious.
Gregor raised his head proudly.
"When one of those wolves attacked me, I threw him in its mouth causing it to gag."
"And as I did I yelled: Chew toy!"
A look of disbelief appeared on Cessian and Viktor's face as they heard his story.
How cruel
But how funny!
They both burst out laughing.
"Haha, this idiot has really gotten what he deserves."
"Haha, yeah, he's truly showing his worth! As a chew toy!!! Hahaha."
The laughter rang through the forest, making the previous angry and depressing atmosphere a little lighter.
James who was laying face down in the mud, his leg held by Gregor closed his eyes in shame.
He wished they would just kill him.
A single tear ran down his cheek.
Please lord! Just kill me!
I know I have sinned… but please have mercy!
He really just wanted to find a hole to crawl into and spend the rest of his life.
If this were to spread… how would I survive?
Then he smiled bitterly.
Right… I probably won't… but is this gonna be my dying legacy?
Being a saliva coated chew toy for shapeshifters?
A chilling sense of despair welled up inside him.
Gregor, Cessian and Viktor knew nothing of his despair.
But even if they knew, they would have probably just laughed harder.
Sucks to be you!
"Alright, let's head back." Cessian said and rubbed his jaw slightly.
All that laughing loosened his jaw slightly.
With that they sped away in a whoosh.
One second they were standing there, the next, it was empty.
Every now and then, James' head would bump into trees, branches, rocks, and mud puddles.
Truly a miserable sight to behold.
Had an ignorant third party seen this, they would have probably felt some pity for the poor sap.
But if they knew, they would have probably spit on the ground and said.
"Good for him!"
…
Back at the Cullen house.
Silas had just sat down at the dinner table when a plate was placed in front of him.
"I've just learned how to make this dish, so it might not be very good." Alice said and sat down beside him.
Silas picked up his cutlery and smiled.
"It looks amazing, I don't think it can taste too bad."
Alice's smile grew wider.
Just as Silas took the first bite, Rosalie and Emmett walked in.
"How can you eat at a time like this?" Rosalie asked in a dissatisfied tone.
Silas swallowed the food and looked at her.
"What do you mean?"
Seeing his clueless expression, Rosalie just got angrier.
"No! What do you mean!? There are strong vampires out there, in our territory, doing god knows what!"
"We might be their next targets! That Viktor probably wants to recreate his old faction and start hunting humans on a large scale, like before!"
"Then we're in their way!"
The more she spoke the more upset she became, and the louder her voice grew.
Silas shoved another fork of food into his mouth.
"I think you're overreacting." He mumbled, his mouth full of food.
Just then Alice reached out and wiped his mouth with a handkerchief.
"Don't speak with your mouth full."
Silas turned to her and gave her a wide smile, then he swallowed his food.
"Understood."
Rosalie watched their romantic behavior and grew even angrier, her hands were clenched into fists.
She turned around to confide in Emmett only to find that he was gone.
Her jaw grew slack in disbelief.
Her own husband just up and left.
What she didn't know is that, when Emmett saw her engaging with Silas, he knew this was going to get heated.
So he left.
He knew that getting Silas excited was kinda like whipping a dead horse.
Useless!
And he also knew Rosalie would get worked up over it, and that she would pull him into it.
He didn't want to go against his friend, but he also didn't want to refuse his wife.
So the best course of action was to leave.
Now? Now he can't be blamed.
Silas watched Rosalie's expression go from anger, to disbelief, to intense anger.
She turned around and glared at them, then stormed out.
He knew she wasn't really angry at them, she was just worried and scared, and seeing them so relaxed was outside of her understanding.
So she wanted to see what made them so calm, and when she didn't get a calming answer, she got mad.
This is certainly a symptom of being unable to properly express your emotions.
Alice looked at his dazed expression and sighed.
"Couldn't you have tried to comfort her, instead of irritating her?"
"She wants everyone's best."
Silas swallowed the food in his mouth and looked at her.
"I would have liked to, but I can't. What would I say?"
Alice pursed her lips.
She knew he could if he wanted to, he's just a big lazy liar.
Seeing her expression Silas smiled, then he turned his attention back to the food.
I hope Cessian, Gregor and Viktor have caught Viktoria, otherwise a punishment is due.
...
A new post! Hope you enjoy! Mwah~
