Konoha's offensive suddenly became much more ferocious.
But Sunagakure was no longer the weak village it used to be.
Now it was strong.
At the very top, Pakura could hold her own against almost anyone.
Among the elite jonin, the appearance of superior Devil Fruits had closed the massive gap that used to favor the Leaf.
The middle ranks were even more stacked — lower-tier Devil Fruits had appeared earlier and were already widespread.
Konoha's only real advantage was numbers.
But Sunagakure held the terrain. The endless desert limited even Leaf shinobi far more than they wanted to admit — not just in jutsu use, but in movement, positioning, and overall combat effectiveness.
Right after the new Ninja World Big Events Weekly hit the stands, Rasa ordered select Sunagakure forces to focus psychological attacks on the Hyuga.
"Your precious Hyuga Hizashi was a real piece of work, huh? Sold out a village comrade just to escape the branch family. Turned Jiraiya into a cripple."
"Jiraiya sure picked the wrong teammates."
"Still, we should thank you. Without your little betrayal, we'd have one more monster to deal with right now."
"But Jiraiya's finished. That's a win for everyone!"
The Hyuga tried to push back.
"It's all lies! You're just trying to drive a wedge between us and the Leaf!"
The Sand ninja laughed coldly.
"The original handwritten suicide note is right there in the paper. Keep lying to yourself if it makes you feel better."
Then they turned to the other Leaf shinobi nearby.
"Aren't you guys worried? These Hyuga will sell out their own teammates without hesitation. Fighting side by side with them… how do you know they won't stab you in the back the second they get a chance to escape the caged bird seal?"
"Word is Sunagakure might even have a way to remove that seal. Who knows what they'd do for that kind of freedom?"
Even though most Leaf ninja knew it was propaganda, the seed had been planted. The way they looked at their Hyuga comrades shifted — just slightly, but noticeably.
The Hyuga, with their Byakugan, saw every change in expression. The atmosphere on their side of the battlefield grew tense.
"Who wants to be the next Jiraiya?" the Sand ninja shouted.
...
Rasa sat calmly in the Kazekage Tower.
He wasn't worried about the front lines. Iwagakure was clearly holding back — this was containment, not a full assault. The only real threat was Konoha's main force.
"Hellhound. Go."
At his command, the massive beast shot toward the battlefield.
Pakura had already signed the summoning contract for it. Rasa could have let her summon it herself, but he preferred to save her chakra. The Hellhound's insane vitality meant it could survive almost anything, and even if it died, it would just split.
Pakura, the giant chameleon, and the Hellhound together…
"The Leaf won't find victory easy," Rasa murmured. "Right now their only real powerhouse is Orochimaru."
"Orochimaru is strong, but he switched his focus years ago. He stopped training his own power and started chasing immortality through reincarnation instead."
Rasa glanced at his system panel. Points were climbing rapidly.
"The Weekly article is doing exactly what I hoped."
"Hyuga Hizashi's story is impossible to ignore. The branch family drama is already juicy, and the suicide note had already been circulating inside the Land of Fire. Now it's everywhere."
He looked toward the Land of Earth.
"As for why Iwagakure joined in… they're after the Devil Fruits and the Sun Disks. Four Sun Disks are already complete. Sunagakure has poured almost every resource we have into them."
He smiled coldly.
"They have no idea this war is actually perfect timing for us. Nothing generates resources faster than war."
"I've already prepared a trap. Any enemy ninja who steps into it — whether from Iwagakure or Konoha — will have almost no chance of escaping. The few who do will need god-tier luck."
"Once we capture them, we can sell the prisoners for a fortune. That might be enough to fund the fifth Sun Disk."
"But I still need more points from the Jiraiya rumors."
"Printing Hizashi's suicide note isn't enough. The main character of that story is Hizashi, not Jiraiya."
Rasa's eyes lit up.
"Ninja Kill."
The game had been a massive hit. During the Minato rumor arc, Rasa had already updated it once by adding the Fourth Hokage as a playable character with heavy "Will of Fire" flavor text.
"This time I'll do a smaller update."
"Add a new card — Crippled Jiraiya."
He quickly designed the abilities.
[Jiraiya (Crippled Version)]
[Ninjutsu 1 — Backstab Power: All damage you deal is doubled. All damage you receive is also doubled.]
[Ninjutsu 2 — Sacrifice: Upon death, you may choose one ally to inherit your abilities.]
The first ability screamed "betrayal" in its name.
The second one heavily implied that the real Jiraiya was already dead… and the one currently walking around Konoha was just a fake wearing his face.
Rasa was confident this card would be popular. High attack, low defense, unique playstyle, and solid utility.
A shinobi suddenly rushed into the office.
"Lord Kazekage! We found this near the village!"
