Takechi Ta's face was lit up with pure excitement.

"Kirigakure's finished!"

"About damn time!"

"Serves them right!"

"That old bastard, the Third Mizukage, spent years screwing with everyone inside our village. He forced Fuguki Suikazan to defect and made my life hell every single day. If it wasn't for him, Kirigakure wouldn't be this weak."

"He's the real reason they're collapsing—not Sunagakure."

"This is our shot!"

Takechi Ta went straight to Uchiha Yashiro.

"Yashiro, you caught the battlefield update?"

Uchiha Yashiro nodded.

"Got the report. Sunagakure just launched a surprise assault on the Mist army. They're taking massive losses, falling back step by step. Even with Konoha reinforcements, they're still getting hammered."

"The Rock army's tearing into Konoha at full force."

"Right now that Konoha-Mist alliance is hanging by a thread."

Hatred burned in Uchiha Yashiro's eyes.

"I was just about to lead the clan and deliver the killing blow to Konoha."

Takechi Ta raised a hand fast.

"Hold on, Yashiro. Attacking Konoha right now isn't the play."

"Huh?"

"Sure, their alliance is crumbling, but both armies are parked right outside Konoha's backyard. Hitting them there would still be rough."

Takechi Ta kept going, voice steady. "Our numbers are too small."

"In this situation, I say we hit Kirigakure village itself."

"The Mist army's in total panic. Kirigakure will have to pull defenders home for backup. That leaves their village wide open. We've got a real chance to take the whole place."

"Once Kirigakure is ours, we've got a real foothold in the ninja world."

"Then I'll become Mizukage, and you'll be my right-hand man."

"Our two clans team up and turn Kirigakure into something unstoppable."

"After that, revenge on Konoha for the Uchiha will be a lot easier."

Uchiha Yashiro's eyes narrowed.

You as Mizukage, me as your assistant?

Why the hell would I settle for that?

When has your Takechi clan's strength ever matched the Uchiha?

We haven't even taken the village yet and you're already carving up the power? If you actually sit in that seat…

Greedy. Not bright.

Uchiha Yashiro had never thought much of Takechi Ta.

Truth be told, he didn't think much of the entire Takechi clan.

Extreme, arrogant, quick to snap—

"Konoha always called us Uchiha extreme and used it as an excuse to target us. If they ever saw the Takechi clan, they'd probably just scream 'kill on sight.'"

At first, Takechi Ta's idea had sounded tempting.

But the more Yashiro listened, the more he shut it down.

Teaming up with the Takechi to storm Kirigakure would just mean doing all the heavy lifting for them.

Even if they won, the Uchiha would still get screwed.

Once the Takechi clan held the Mizukage title, they'd turn around and start suppressing the Uchiha—just like Konoha did.

It would be the same nightmare all over again.

Uchiha can only rely on Uchiha.

No one else.

Yashiro wasn't about to say any of that to Takechi Ta's face.

He just gave a calm excuse.

"Sorry. Ever since we left Konoha, we Uchiha gave up on joining any hidden village. We're staying independent."

"Besides, we'd rather hit Konoha for revenge right now."

"Konoha hurt the Uchiha too deep."

"We have to settle that score."

"And this is the best chance we'll ever get. Miss it, and it might never come again."

Takechi Ta looked disappointed but didn't push.

"Fine. Then we split up. Your Uchiha head for Konoha and get your payback. My Takechi clan will take Kirigakure."

"If we succeed, Yashiro, and you Uchiha ever need a place… the gates of Kirigakure will always be open to you."

Uchiha Yashiro gave a short bow.

"Appreciate it."

The two clans moved fast.

One headed east, one west.

From a distance, Uchiha Yashiro stared toward Konoha. Already a few scattered Leaf ninja had wandered into view—retreating from the front lines.

"Remember why we're here," he said quietly. "We're here to kill."

"Any Konoha ninja you see—kill on sight."

"We're not fighting them head-on."

"We're here for revenge."

The Uchiha looked at one another and answered in perfect sync.

"Yes, Lord Yashiro."

One exhausted Leaf ninja had just dragged himself back from the front. Chakra spent, wounds bleeding, he finally saw the village gates in the distance and let out a long breath.

"Kirigakure is so damn useless!"

"Can't do anything right."

"All they do is drag Konoha down with them."

"Should've never allied with those idiots—"

Suddenly he felt a chill crawl up his spine. He whipped his head around.

A pair of blood-red eyes stared back at him. Three tomoe spun slowly inside.

"Uchiha…?"

The Leaf ninja's pupils shrank to pinpricks.

Too late.

The genjutsu slammed into him like a hammer.

An Uchiha ninja stepped forward without a sound.

Schlick.

A kunai drove straight into the man's throat.

The pain shattered the illusion, but it didn't matter. Blood sprayed in thick arcs. The ninja's life poured out onto the dirt.

Thud.

The body hit the ground, dead.

The Uchiha ninja smiled, cold and satisfied.

"Hell yeah…"

"This is what revenge feels like."

"Senior Kagami… Tomo… this is for all of you."

"For every Uchiha who ever got screwed by Konoha."

"Every single Leaf ninja deserves this."

"I'm going to kill every last one of you."

More retreating Leaf ninja fell, one after another.

Against ordinary shinobi, the Uchiha were terrifyingly efficient. One genjutsu to lock them down, then a single kunai or short blade—done.

And right now Konoha had every eye glued to the Rock and Sand battlefields.

No one was watching the rear.

The Uchiha cut loose and enjoyed every second.

They watched the bodies drop. They smelled the thick blood in the air.

Every grievance, every humiliation, every ounce of rage they'd carried since leaving Konoha finally poured out.

"Kill!"

"Keep going!"

"I want more!"

The slaughter had only just begun.
