Chapter 1 - The Night Fate Changed

A woman has just given birth to a baby girl.

Exhausted, she gently touches the child's tiny face, memorizing every feature. A soft smile appears on her lips… and soon, sleep takes over.

The room falls silent.

Moments later, the door slowly opens.

Another woman steps inside, holding a newborn in her arms. Her eyes are cold. She walks toward the sleeping mother and looks down at the baby beside her.

Without hesitation, she swaps the babies.

She places a lifeless child next to the sleeping woman and takes the healthy baby in her arms.

Outside, snow falls heavily. Under a lonely bridge, the river flows dark and silent.

The woman throws the baby into the freezing river below.

And disappears.

Thirteen years later…

In a small town high school, a girl named Summer lives like a princess.

She belongs to one of the most powerful families in the city. She is the darling of the house. Her cousin is the icy and emotionless CEO of the number one company. Another cousin is a respected doctor. And her senior — known as the a-yuan— is the number one male god of the school.

Her world is perfect.

Or so it seems.

In the same school studies Yaya.

Unlike Summer, Yaya survives on a scholarship. She belongs to a poor family and lives with her single mother, who loves her more than anything in the world.

Two girls. Same age. Same town. Completely different lives.

They know each other… but they are not friends.

One evening, Summer leaves her house quietly. She is in a bad mood and wants some air.

As she walks down the dim street, she notices a group of drunk men laughing loudly. Fear creeps into her heart. She turns around, deciding to go back home.

Then she sees Yaya on the other side of the road.

Yaya walks past the drunk men confidently. She secretly takes pictures of them and steps inside a nearby shop. Standing in front of a CCTV camera, she makes a call.

Summer watches in confusion.

Before she understands what is happening, the drunk men suddenly turn toward her.

Her breath stops.

Her phone slips from her hand and falls into the drain tunnel.

The men start walking toward her.

Closer.

Closer.

Tears fill her eyes. Her hands tremble. She quickly moves toward the shop where Yaya went.

But the men run and surround her.

She feels trapped.

Just then—

Police sirens echo through the street.

A police car stops. Officers jump out and arrest the drunk men immediately.

One officer looks at Summer.

"What are you doing here alone, little girl?"

Then he notices Yaya.

"Are you two friends?"

Yaya shakes her head respectfully.

"No, si."

"what are you doing here at this late?"

"sirI am Yaya. I was returning to my house."

"How old are you?"

"I'm fourteen."

They question Summer, but she stays silent, still shaken.

The officer whispers something into Yaya's ear.

Yaya turns to Summer and gently says,

"Where is your home? Let's go. I'll walk with you. Don't be afraid. They're gone now."

Summer nods softly. "Hmm."

They walk together.

For the first time… they talk.

When they reach Summer's mansion, the large gates open. Security guards bow slightly as she enters.

The police officer explains everything to Summer's mother.

Her mother rushes forward and hugs her tightly.

"Summer! What if something had happened? Please don't go out alone again."

Summer smiles faintly.

"Okay, Mumma."

She then introduces Yaya as her bestfriend

Summer's mother looks at Yaya warmly.

"Thank you, child."

But suddenly—

Her eyes freeze.

She notices a small birthmark on Yaya's hand.

Her heart skips a beat.

"Child… what is that on your hand?"

Yaya smiles innocently.

"Auntie, it's my birthmark."

For a moment, the room feels suffocating.

Summer's mother forces a smile.

Then she quietly takes Summer to her room… and asks the butler to escort Yaya out.

Her hands are shaking.

Because she has seen that birthmark before.

Thirteen years ago.
