The night after Beelzebub's warning carried a strange stillness, the kind that made even immortals uneasy. The palace stood tall beneath the quiet sky, yet within its walls no one truly rested.
Lucien had not slept.
He stood in the war chamber alone, staring at a large map that stretched across the obsidian table. The map was not of mortal lands. It showed realms—Heaven, Hell, the neutral dominions, the forgotten ruins beneath the world, and the ancient passages that connected them.
Every place Lilith could move.
Every place she could hide.
Every place she could strike.
Behind him, the doors creaked open.
Naamah entered first, rolling her shoulders as though she had just returned from battle.
"You're still awake," she said.
Lucien didn't look up.
"I'm thinking."
"That's dangerous."
He finally glanced at her.
"Funny."
Naamah leaned against the table and looked over the map.
"So we're officially hunting Lilith now?"
Lucien sighed.
"We don't have a choice."
Before Naamah could answer, Celestia stepped into the chamber.
Lucien immediately straightened.
"Shouldn't you be resting?"
Celestia gave him a look.
"Lucien."
He sighed.
"Right. Stupid question."
She moved closer to the table and studied the map with quiet focus.
"The Petition Scroll."
Naamah nodded.
"The thing that could publicly expose Heaven's corruption."
Celestia's voice remained calm.
"It won't just expose them."
Lucien looked up.
"It will weaken celestial authority."
Naamah smirked slightly.
"And chaos will follow."
Lucien crossed his arms.
"Which is exactly why Lilith wants it."
Celestia ran a finger along the map slowly, tracing the ancient territories marked there.
"The scroll was hidden during the Celestial era."
Lucien frowned.
"You saw something about it during your journey to the past."
Celestia nodded.
"The unicorn told me where it was taken."
Both Lucien and Naamah leaned closer.
"Well?" Naamah asked.
Celestia's finger stopped over a dark region on the map.
"The Veil Archive."
Lucien's eyes narrowed immediately.
"…that place still exists?"
Naamah whistled softly.
"Oh that's bad."
Celestia looked between them.
"You both know it."
Lucien nodded slowly.
"The Veil Archive is older than Heaven's court system."
Naamah added,
"It's where dangerous truths go to disappear."
Celestia exhaled slowly.
"Then that's where Lilith will go."
Lucien shook his head.
"No."
Celestia frowned.
"No?"
Lucien's eyes darkened slightly.
"She already has."
Silence fell across the room.
Naamah cursed quietly.
"Of course she has."
Before anyone could say more, the air suddenly shimmered.
The Spirit Guide appeared once again.
Its silver light pulsed faintly.
"She moves quickly."
Lucien looked irritated.
"You could have told us sooner."
The Guide ignored the comment.
"Lilith has already sent hunters."
Celestia's heart sank slightly.
"How many?"
The Guide answered calmly.
"Enough."
Naamah groaned.
"Well that's helpful."
Lucien turned to the Guide.
"Who?"
The Guide's voice lowered.
"Witches."
"Vampires."
"And something else."
Naamah frowned.
"Something else?"
The Spirit Guide looked toward the far shadows of the chamber.
"Creatures older than Lilith's court."
Lucien swore under his breath.
"Wonderful."
Celestia rested a hand over her abdomen again.
The child stirred faintly.
Lucien noticed immediately.
"What is it?"
Celestia looked thoughtful.
"He reacts when certain things are mentioned."
Naamah raised an eyebrow.
"You're telling me the baby has opinions?"
Lucien muttered,
"He definitely got that from her."
Celestia ignored them both.
"The Petition Scroll…"
She paused.
"…the child reacts to it."
The Spirit Guide spoke softly.
"That is not surprising."
Lucien frowned.
"Why?"
The Guide answered simply.
"The scroll was written during the same era Balance was first defined."
Celestia understood immediately.
"So the child recognizes its significance."
"Yes."
Naamah sighed.
"Great. Our unborn strategist."
Lucien rubbed his temples again.
"Alright."
He looked at both of them.
"We move first."
Celestia looked at him carefully.
"You're planning to go to the Archive."
Lucien nodded.
"Yes."
Naamah grinned.
"Finally."
But Celestia shook her head slowly.
"No."
Lucien blinked.
"…no?"
She pointed at the map again.
"The Veil Archive is a trap."
Naamah tilted her head.
"How so?"
Celestia looked at them both.
"Because Lilith knows we'll come."
Lucien's expression hardened slightly.
"Then we walk into it anyway."
Celestia's voice remained calm.
"No."
She moved her finger again across the map—toward another forgotten place.
"The Archive is only the vault."
Lucien frowned.
"What do you mean?"
Celestia looked at the Spirit Guide.
"The scroll wasn't written there."
The Guide nodded.
"No."
Lucien slowly understood.
"…it was stored there."
"Yes."
Naamah's eyes widened slightly.
"So the original…"
Celestia finished the thought.
"…is somewhere else."
Lucien leaned forward.
"Where?"
Celestia's finger stopped on a place few beings dared to visit.
A region marked in ancient script.
Lucien's eyes widened slightly.
"No."
Naamah looked at it too.
"Oh you're kidding."
Celestia's voice was steady.
"The First Sanctuary."
Lucien stared at her.
"That place hasn't been touched since the Celestial era."
The Spirit Guide confirmed quietly.
"Which is exactly why the truth still remains there."
Naamah straightened slowly.
"So let me get this straight."
She pointed between them.
"Lilith is heading toward the fake scroll…"
Lucien nodded.
"…while we go find the real one."
Celestia met his gaze.
"Yes."
Lucien smiled slowly.
"Well."
Naamah cracked her knuckles.
"That's the kind of plan I like."
Lucien turned toward the doors of the chamber.
"Then we leave before sunrise."
Celestia raised an eyebrow.
"You're not even pretending to sleep."
Lucien smirked slightly.
"I'll sleep when the universe stops trying to kill our child."
Naamah laughed.
"Fair."
But high above the palace—
beyond the stars where the Architects watched silently—
one of the ancient observers shifted.
The movements below had changed.
Paths were diverging.
Lilith hunting the Archive.
Lucien and Celestia seeking the Sanctuary.
The board was moving.
And the game surrounding the heir of Balance had officially begun.
