He settled into the passenger seat, looking out the window at the Crown District passing by. He was aware in the peripheral way of things he wasn't examining directly that Virginia had looked at him four times since he got in the car and had said nothing about any of them.
"You look well," she said finally, once they were on the outskirts of the Crown District.
"You say that like you expected otherwise."
"I heard you spent yesterday in your room."
"I was resting."
"Amari said you were sulking."
"Amari talks too much."
Virginia's mouth did the thing. "She said the donuts helped."
"They were good donuts."
"I'll tell her you said so." She navigated a turn with the ease of someone who had been driven everywhere her entire life and had learned, at some point, to simply do it herself because it was faster. "What about Silas."
"Improving. Sleeping." He looked at the passing street. "Regulus is with him."
