Chapter 2 - Tryout Competition

Lin Ran looked up and saw three young men walking towards Kreller and his companions.

The one speaking was a tall, strong young man, at least 1.9 meters tall.

The other two young men next to him were also tall and imposing, exuding a strong sense of pressure.

Seeing the newcomers, Kreller's expression became a little unnatural. He forced a smile and said, "Fernando, you're here too?"

"If even a useless person like you, who falls at a touch, can come, then of course we have to come. If we don't, Atlético Madrid will be taken over by trash like you," the young man named Fernando said arrogantly, causing the two young men beside him to snicker. Clearly, they didn't think much of Kreller.

Hearing Fernando immediately call him useless, Kreller was clearly a bit angry. However, he looked at the three burly men in front of him, who were half a head taller than him, and ultimately held back his outburst.

Seeing that Kreller didn't speak, the three young men became even more smug, laughing loudly as if no one else was around.

"Kreller, who are these three idiots? Why are they acting like mad dogs?" Lin Ran, standing nearby, couldn't help but speak up when he saw his companion being ridiculed.

Hearing Lin Ran's words, the three who had been laughing smugly immediately stopped and glared fiercely at Lin Ran.

"Chinese Kid, are you looking for death? Do you believe I'll beat the shit out of you?" Fernando threatened with a menacing look.

"I don't believe it. If you dare to lay a hand on me, I'll let you taste the power of our Chinese martial arts," Lin Ran said, striking a martial arts starting pose, his expression inviting a fight.

This actually intimidated the other party. The reputation of Chinese martial arts made the three big guys on the other side somewhat apprehensive.

The few of them stood in a stalemate for a few seconds when one of the young men next to Fernando tugged at his sleeve and said, "Fernando, fighting here will get us kicked out. If we want to deal with that kid, we'll have to wait until after the tryout."

Hearing the young man's words, Fernando secretly breathed a sigh of relief, though he still maintained an unwilling expression on the surface. He angrily said to Lin Ran, "Consider yourself lucky, kid. You'd better pray you don't run into me on the field later, otherwise, I'll let you know what happens when you offend me, Fernando."

The three of them walked away, turning their heads to glare fiercely at them as they went.

It wasn't until the three had walked far away that Kreller, standing nearby, let out a long breath and said with some concern, "Lin, you've offended Fernando. He'll definitely get his revenge. You need to be careful."

"It's fine, I'll be careful. What does this guy do? He seems very arrogant?"

"He's the starting center-back for the team in our neighboring community. This guy is notorious in our community; every year in the community games, someone gets injured because of his aggressive Defense. Last year, my good friend Fausto had his leg broken by him and still hasn't fully recovered. You know, he was a forward our community had high hopes for, but now he can only say goodbye to his beloved football."

Kreller said sadly.

"It's okay, I'll help you teach them a lesson," Lin Ran said loyally.

Hearing Lin Ran's words, Kreller's mood seemed to improve a little.

Just as he was about to say something, he suddenly heard someone in the crowd say, "The Head Coach is here, stand still!"

Lin Ran looked up and saw a serious-looking middle-aged man of medium build, in his forties, walking over.

Behind him was a man in his thirties, holding a notebook, who appeared to be the assistant of the middle-aged man in front.

The middle-aged man stopped in front of the group of young players waiting for the tryout, first scanning the entire field with his eagle-like sharp eyes.

Once everyone became nervous, he spoke, "I am Flores, the Head Coach of the Atlético Madrid youth team. This is my assistant coach, Moya."

"First, I welcome you all for choosing to try out here. Atlético Madrid is a great club, and many talented players have come from here. Raúl, Torres, all trained here."

"If you can pass the tryout today, you might also become the next Raúl, the next Torres."

Flores's words made the eyes of the young players gleam with longing. Who wouldn't want to become a star like Raúl or Torres, admired by all?

However, Flores then changed his tone, saying seriously, "For today's tryout, we only need to recruit five players, but there are forty-seven applicants. So, today we will go through a series of selections. I only want the best."

These words immediately made everyone on the field tense up, and they looked at the people around them with vigilance, as these people would soon become their competitors.

Seeing that his words had an effect, Flores's mouth curved slightly upwards, and he continued, "Next, we will proceed with group matches. Coach Moya will explain the specific rules shortly. All right, lads, give it your best and seize this opportunity that might change your destiny."

After Flores finished speaking, he nodded to Moya behind him and then walked towards the coaches' bench.

Moya, with a full beard, stepped forward and said loudly, "Based on the information you provided, we have divided you into four teams according to your on-field positions. You will then engage in two-on-two group matches. The game time is 45 minutes. We will score you based on your performance in the game, and the five individuals with the highest scores will remain."

"Now, those whose names I call, please come up and collect your game vests."

"Castro! Red Team goalkeeper."

"Morales! Red Team left-winger."

"González! Yellow Team defender."

...As each name was called out, young men emerged from the crowd and went up to receive their vests.

The vests were divided into two colors, red and yellow, representing the Red Team and Yellow Team respectively.

"Kreller! Red Team left-midfielder."

Hearing his name, Kreller quickly stepped forward and took his red vest. His number was 11.

"Hmm? This... Lin... Ran! Red Team forward."

Clearly, this tongue-twisting Chinese name made Moya stumble a bit, but his good professional conduct quickly helped him adjust.

Hearing his name, Lin Ran immediately stepped out of the crowd and went up to receive his vest. The number on the vest was 10, a very good number.

Seeing Lin Ran, the black-haired, yellow-skinned Chinese, Moya was slightly surprised but quickly smiled and said, "Chinese Kid, welcome to the Atlético Madrid youth academy. Play well later, I have high hopes for you."

"Thank you, I will do my best." Lin Ran felt a bit of goodwill towards the bearded man in front of him.

Moya quickly finished calling out the names. Those whose names were called, divided into two teams according to their vest colors, stood on the field, just waiting for the game to start.
