Chapter 12 - Fractured Crawlers

Chapter 12 — The Trembling Unleashed.

Silence.....Not the calm kind, but the kind that presses against the ears. The kind that warns.

Every warrior on the wall held position, weapons raised.Breath was steady and eyes fixed on the horizon.

Echo felt it again. That pull deep in his chest.

His core… was constricting bringing him a sharp pain.

A voice broke the stillness. "…It's too late."

No panic,no shout. Just certainty. Echo turned.

The man who spoke stood a few paces ahead...armor worn and his stance was firm.

Then... Something pierced him.No wind and no warning. A thin, jagged limb erupted through his chest from behind.

Time froze.

The warrior's eyes widened… not in pain—but in realization. "No!!!" Ahhhhh"...

Then the limb twitched.

CRACK....

His body collapsed inward....like something crushed from within....before scattering into fragments of dim light.

Gone, Echo's breath hitched.

"What..." A sound cut him off. Not loud but

worse. A high-pitched,thin and wrong.

It didn't travel through the air but It went through him. Several warriors dropped instantly. No wounds and no impact.

They just… fell. Their weapons clattered across the stone as their bodies went still.

Others staggered, clutching their chests.

"Resonance.....!" ..."Brace your cores!"...."Hold formation!"

Another ripple passed across the horizon.

Closer,this time....

Echo saw it.

The sky didn't move but It fractured. Lines...

thin, dark ....spread across the distance like cracks in glass.

And from those cracks… Something reached out.... A limb, long and jointed. Too many angles to be natural.

It hooked onto the edge of the wall. Then another and another. The first creature pulled itself into view.

Echo's breath slowed, not from calm but from disbelief.

It wasn't a spider. It wasn't an ant. It was something assembled. A body made of fractured plates....like broken obsidian forced together.

Limbs that bent at impossible points. A head that wasn't a head...just a split mass that trembled as if struggling to exist. And where eyes should be… There were cracks.

Glowing faintly from within.

It let out a sound, that is not a roar. A scream.

The air tightened. Echo felt it slam into his chest.

"What is that" Echo said shakiliy, Elsa looked at echo and said....The Trembling is a living frequency Swarm that that spawns entities. She noticed the confused looked on his face, "okay, let's take it as a phenomenon that produces monsters". Echo nodded.

She paused to make it settle and she continued "What you see here are called Fractured Crawlers, they emit what we call ... resonance screams, that when hits the core directly, you either ..."she stopped there, "you can see what it does" she said. Echo nodded.

Echo was frightened by what he is experiencing, then.... His core reacted violently.....Contracting hard.

"Agh...!" He dropped to one knee. Around him....Others weren't as lucky. Two warriors behind him convulsed....

Then burst into fragments of fading light.

No blood..no remains.

Just… gone. "Hold the line!!" Energy flared across the wall, blades ignited, barriers formed and arrows of light shot into the distance.

The first creature lunged... And was cut down instantly.Split in half by a glowing strike.

It fell...Then dissolved mid-air. For a brief moment...

Hope.

Then....

More hands gripped the wall, dozens, then hundreds.

They started climbing, not on the stone. But on something else. On the space itself.

Their limbs pressed against nothing...yet held firm.

Reality bent slightly beneath them as they moved.

Echo stared. "They're… not climbing the wall…" Elsa's voice came low, controlled...

"They're anchoring to fractured space."

Another scream, this time Louder and closer.

The formation broke. Not fully.... But enough.

A section of warriors collapsed under the pressure.

One lost control....then his aura flared wildly...

Then...

CRACK.

His core shattered....he fell without a sound.

Echo's breathing grew uneven. His chest..."Damn ,It hurt like hell"

Not like before but different. His core wasn't resisting anymore. It was…responding.

"What is going on" he tought. Elsa was getting worried on what is happening to him.

Another ripple struck.

This time.... It didn't pass but It lingered right at the edge of the wall.

The Crawlers stopped. All of them at once.

They were still. The entire battlefield froze.

Warriors,creatures,wind.

Everything, echo felt it. Something behind the Trembling, not the swarm.

Not the screams but something deeper. His core contracted again. Harder than before.

Then....

It pulsed a faint light flickered beneath his skin again.... and gone in an instant. Elsa saw it again.

Her eyes narrowed sharply. "…Echo." He didn't answer. He couldn't.

Because the cracks in the sky.... Opened wider.

And something on the other side… Looked back.

BOOM!
