Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: Health Station

"Clear the road, and we'll go take a look. If there are no antibiotics, it could be quite troublesome for minor illnesses!" Jack nodded and, together with Hu Laoda, they managed to drag several cars apart that were jammed together. When they got to the last white delivery truck, Hu Laoda's eyes suddenly lit up, and he laughed excitedly, "Haha! It's actually Wu Fang Zhai zongzi! Ladies, we have something delicious!"

"Really? Really? I love zongzi the most!" Jiao Jiao spotted the small truck with the Wu Fang Zhai logo from the car. In her excitement, she immediately jumped down with the two girls, looking at the truck with eager anticipation. However, as they got closer, she hesitated and asked Hu Laoda, "It wouldn't be empty inside, would it?"

"No way? Looking at the direction of this car, it should be coming from Zhejiang, so it shouldn't be an empty vehicle!"

Boss Hu frowned as he looked at the small truck. Without any hesitation, he walked over and smashed the slightly deformed container handle with the gun butt. However, before he could pull the cabinet door, the door with the blue license plate suddenly opened by itself. Instantly, a foul odor filled Boss Hu's nostrils, causing him to stumble back. At the same time, two decaying figures rushed out from the truck, roaring as they lunged at Boss Hu!

"Ah…"

Startled, Boss Hu let out a strange cry and turned to run, but his legs wouldn't cooperate; his left foot tripped over his right, and he fell backward in a tangle. Meanwhile, the two pursuing zombies showed no mercy, their eyes gleaming with a bloodthirsty light as they sprinted towards the fallen Boss Hu. He screamed in terror, his cries echoing like a ghost's wail. Just as the two zombies were about to pounce, his finger twitched, and he instinctively pulled the trigger of the gun in his hand.

With a loud "bang," smoke erupted, and the right leg of the leading zombie was blown off, black corpse fluid splattering all over the white truck. Yet, the zombie felt nothing and continued to roar, trying to bite Boss Hu's foot. Boss Hu shrieked and shrank back, his legs flailing desperately on the ground as he pulled the trigger again.

With two consecutive "bangs," one shot accurately blew off the male zombie's head, while the other hit the female zombie. She only staggered back two steps, shaking her body, and with her terrifying mouth, which was already split to the roots of her ears, she lunged forward again. But at this moment, it was useless for Boss Hu to keep pulling the trigger, as his gun was only loaded with three bullets!

"Hiss…"

A swift flash of white knife light cut through the air, and the female zombie fell with a thud at Boss Hu's feet, her grotesque head rolling far away, the stinking mouth still snapping shut.

Boss Hu lay on the ground, his face pale as he looked towards Jack. At that moment, Jack had already sheathed the machete he had on his back, not even glancing at him, and walked straight to the small truck, forcefully pulling open the truck's cabinet door.

"Jiao Jiao, what kind of filling do you want?" Jack waved his hand in front of his nose to disperse the stench of the corpse, looking at the truck full of zongzi, smiling happily.

"Salted egg yolk, I want salted egg yolk!"

Seeing that the zombie was dead, Jiao Jiao, who had already shrieked and shrunk to the side, immediately pulled the two girls excitedly towards the truck. Under the midday sun, the sight of neatly stacked boxes of intact Wu Fang Zhai zongzi in the container deeply stirred people's appetites!

Jiao Jiao shouted as she climbed onto the car, pulling out a short-handled axe from her waist, "Shh!" She sliced open a cardboard box and pulled out a red gift box from inside. Turning around, she held up the box with excitement and said, "Haha~ Lin Ye, it's a vacuum-packed gift box! We're going to get rich now!"

"How much can you take even if you get rich?" Jack laughed and shook his head, looking at Jiao Jiao and said, "Don't just be happy, call your sisters to put the zongzi on the roof of the car. Oh, and find me some fresh meat; I love that!"

After saying that, Jack turned to Hu Laoda, who had already stood up but was still trembling. He frowned and said, "Hu Laoda, load a few more bullets. You and Cao Mei stay here while Bai Ru and I go check that health station!"

"You... you go ahead!" Hu Laoda wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, nodding hurriedly. He then pulled out a few red explosive rounds from his pocket and stuffed them all into the gun in one go.

"Bai Ru, come with me!" Jack waved to Bai Ru, who was on lookout on the roof of the car. Bai Ru quickly climbed down from the roof. Jack was increasingly satisfied with Bai Ru, not only because she was the most unique among the girls, but also because they were becoming more in sync. Often, with just a glance or a gesture from Jack, she would know what he wanted to do. Looking at Hu Laoda, who was still trembling, Jack shook his head; Bai Ru's performance as a woman was far superior to his.

"Lin Ye, where are we going?" Bai Ru approached wearing a pair of brown sports sunglasses, her long black hair tied back in a neat ponytail. She wore a white polo shirt with an open collar, and her relatively full chest made the polo shirt bulge out. She paired it with khaki casual pants like Jack's, and to facilitate movement, she deliberately wore a pair of brown hiking shoes.

Jack looked at Bai Ru's outfit with a strange expression, subconsciously glancing at himself. He was also in a black polo shirt, khaki pants, and brown hiking shoes, with a sporty pair of black sunglasses on his face. He suddenly felt that there was a hint of couple's outfit in what they were wearing.

"Lin Ye?" Bai Ru seemed to notice what Jack was looking at. She felt a bit embarrassed as if her little secret had been exposed, and quickly asked again.

"Oh, we're going to that health station to see if we can find any useful medicine!" Jack awkwardly withdrew his gaze, instinctively pinching his nose before turning to walk towards the health station, unaware that Bai Ru behind him had suddenly blushed, biting her red lips as she lowered her head to follow.

Arriving in front of the white two-story building, Jack looked at the wooden sign hanging on the door. The paint on the sign was peeling, and he could vaguely make out the words "X Wa Township Health Station." The first character was so worn that it was unreadable, but it seemed to resemble the character for "Chen."

The health clinic is estimated to be of little benefit; not only is the building in a precarious state, dilapidated and crumbling, but there isn't even a single car visible in the small yard. At a glance, several wooden doors on the first floor are nearly rotting through, and upon closer inspection, one can directly see a glimpse of the interior through the holes in the doors.

However, this place must not have been peaceful at the beginning. In the center of the spacious courtyard gate, there were actually many sandbags piled up, which not only blocked the gate tightly but also had quite a few corpses lying haphazardly in front of the sandbag pile. It was evident that a very fierce battle had taken place here.

Jack, along with Bai Ru, clumsily climbed over the sandbag wall, and a few broken, desiccated bones draped with camouflage cloth appeared behind the sandbag pile. Besides a ground covered with bullet casings, several rusted Type 81 automatic rifles were almost completely covered in dust, and one of them even had a segment of a pale human finger bone stuck on the trigger.

"These guns are useless!" Jack picked up a Type 81 rifle from the dust and found that even the bolt couldn't be pulled back. As for the bullets inside, he didn't have a gun, so he naturally couldn't use them. However, he did spot something good in the dust—a transparent riot shield with some bloodstains on it.

"Bai Ru, this is for you!" Jack pulled out the riot shield made of PC material from the dust, weighed it in his hands, and it was only about six or seven pounds. He turned around and handed it to Bai Ru behind him.

"Hmm! This is quite suitable for me, but aren't you going to use it?" Bai Ru took the riot shield but hesitated as she looked at Jack.

"Anything that can hurt me, this shield can't protect against!" Jack smiled confidently, drew the machete from the nylon sheath on his back, and turned to walk towards the clinic building.
