Van followed Anderson without saying a word. The man moved quickly, like someone who had already decided that whatever happened next would lead to his freedom one way or another. Van's breathing grew heavier with each passing second as thoughts about his mother filled his head. She had to be in there, he just knew it. Otherwise, they would have let him in.
They stopped in front of a metal panel by the side of a narrow corridor, and Anderson crouched and began loosening it, his hands not as steady as he tried to, making sure no one was coming, Van kept watch as well, but he could barely focus.
"This is the fastest way in," Anderson said quietly. "It leads to the lower section of the lab."
Van nodded. "Just open it," he said. "I have to get to her soon."
"Her?" Anderson wanted to ask, but then the panel came off, revealing a tight, dark passage. Without waiting or answering, Van got in and began to crawl through it, and Anderson followed behind him.
