"Lovely to finally meet you, Selene." He bowed to her, despite the way his frail form shook just a bit.
His smile was warm, even if his mouth was concealed under his long white beard.
She glanced at me, bowing awkwardly as she did. "Nice to meet you too, Elder."
"Oh please, as your humans say, just call me Erwin."
Her lip twitched a bit, some tension bleeding off her shoulders. "We do say that," she affirmed.
I would have smirked at her remark, but then, tomorrow she was facing off against my old beta. Tension coiled in my gut, hard enough to ache.
"I am glad you could make it," I cut through the tense air.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world. Our future Luna needs a little talk."
Erwin's eyes twinkled, the age-worn wrinkles around them deepening as he turned his full attention toward Selene. The air around him felt heavy with history, yet surprisingly soft.
