Chapter 97 - Chapter 97: That’s Wei Qing’s Voice?!

Under the night sky of the Luofu, Wei Qing moved like a shadow over old rooftops and narrow ridgelines. Even the sharpest Cloud Knight sentries couldn't catch the slightest trace of him.

It wasn't that he was deliberately hiding this from Firefly.

It was just… tonight he was going to see an old friend. Bringing her along would feel like dragging a bright, living "third wheel" into a reunion.

His target was clear.

The overly enthusiastic "neighbor" next door—Bai Heng.

An old friend reunion was pointless if it stayed at the level of distant observation.

If you were going to catch up, you did it properly. Face to face.

When he arrived at the adjacent courtyard, he quickly locked onto that familiar aura.

Bai Heng wasn't even trying to hide it.

Maybe she believed that with her tracking skills, this "rainbow-haired siblings" pair would never notice her at all.

Inside the large courtyard, she sat on a stone stool. A pot of clear liquor and a few small dishes were laid out in front of her.

She propped her cheek on one hand, her fox tail swishing lazily. In the other hand, she held a jade communicator to her ear, muttering softly.

She was clearly talking to someone—probably reporting her speculation about "Dian Dao" and his sister, concluding that they were interesting but showed no obvious malice.

"...And honestly, that Dian Dao guy… if you look long enough, he's kind of… not bad? Like, the rainbow hair isn't totally unacceptable."

She even touched her own hair, as if genuinely considering whether she should try some ridiculous dye job too.

Wei Qing nearly laughed out loud from the shadows.

This fox—decades later—was still the same: hyper, nosy, addicted to gossip.

Even surveillance targets could become "kinda cute" to her.

She wasn't just monitoring. She was entertaining herself.

Curiosity and snack-worthy drama mattered to her far more than suspicion.

For someone like Bai Heng, that was… perfectly on brand.

Wei Qing waited patiently until she ended the call, tossed the jade device onto the table, and took a satisfied sip of her drink.

Perfect timing.

He stopped hiding and simply dropped down.

Straight into the courtyard.

He walked to the stone stool across from her and sat down like he owned the place.

Bai Heng almost spat her liquor.

Her pupils shrank, her fur practically bristling—her whole body jolting upright.

She hadn't even felt him arrive.

"Wah—! You, you you you… Mister Dian Dao?!"

She shot to her feet, her right hand instantly resting on the short blades at her waist.

Her voice was sharp.

"How are you here?!"

The initial shock snapped cleanly into pure alertness.

She didn't draw yet—but her posture was already combat-ready.

"Mister Dian Dao. Sneaking into someone's residence in the middle of the night… that doesn't seem like something a Pure Beauty Knight would do."

Her tone lost its usual playful bounce.

"Or is your 'Pure Beauty' path also about creeping around like a ghost?"

Wei Qing wasn't surprised.

He calmly picked up a clean cup from the table and poured himself a drink, leisurely—like he was the host.

"Disturbing you at night is, admittedly, discourteous."

He took a sip.

"However, Bai Heng—rather than asking why I'm here, perhaps you should answer my question first."

He set the cup down, eyes steady.

"Why is a warm, hospitable guide from the Sky-Ferry Commission not asleep at home… but instead sitting here in the dark, closely observing the next-door guests?"

He lifted the cup again, tasting.

"Good liquor."

"Watching the neighbors while drinking… your taste is rather… distinctive."

"Mm. There's even a kind of… 'secret observation' aesthetic to it, I suppose?"

Bai Heng felt her face stiffen with embarrassment.

So he'd caught her that quickly?

This Pure Beauty Knight wasn't as simple as he looked.

"Aiya, Mister Dian Dao, that's such a harsh accusation. You're wronging me."

She tried to force her usual grin back onto her face.

"I'm just worried you two are new here and might not sleep well! As a host, caring a little is only natural, right?"

"Oh?" Wei Qing's expression remained unreadable.

"So Luofu hospitality is this… thorough."

"That level of care is truly moving."

Bai Heng's smile faltered. She coughed awkwardly, then steadied herself and sat back down—appearing relaxed, while her senses quietly tightened to their limit.

This "Pure Beauty Knight" felt different tonight.

The daytime persona had… shifted.

"Alright. Fine." she said, pretending lightness. "You didn't come all the way here at midnight just to praise me, did you?"

"No, of course not."

Wei Qing placed his cup down and looked at her calmly.

"I simply thought… instead of letting you work so hard next door, guessing and speculating, I might as well come in person."

"Save you the trouble."

He spoke with smooth certainty, like the truth was already on the table.

"Bai Heng, you seem… very curious about my sister and me."

Bai Heng stared for a second, then accepted that pretending was pointless.

She poured herself another drink and smiled—this time thinner, sharper.

"Curious? Sure."

"You two are… very hard not to notice."

"And in times like these, being cautious is normal. Wouldn't you agree?"

Wei Qing nodded mildly, as if acknowledging a reasonable point.

"Caution is indeed a virtue."

He leaned back slightly.

"Then after watching all day… what conclusion have you reached?"

"Do we look like people with ulterior motives?"

Before Bai Heng could answer, Wei Qing added casually—almost absentmindedly:

"By the way, if my sister heard you say that, she'd probably be delighted."

"She's been complaining that our outfits are too attention-grabbing."

Bai Heng's hand froze midair.

The liquor in her cup trembled, making a faint ripple.

Her fox ears snapped upright.

She jerked her head up, eyes wide, staring at the rainbow-haired man across from her.

That voice—

That tone—

That rhythm—

It was too familiar.

Her lips parted slightly, disbelief flashing across her face.

"…That's Wei Qing's voice?!"
