Lucian sat alone in his office, the click of his keyboard was the only sound cutting through the silence of the upper wing. After he had left Adrian's bedroom hours ago, tucked beneath those ridiculous cloud-patterned pajamas, he hadn't gone back to his own quarters. There was no point because he knew the sleep wouldn't come, his body had still been too hot. As a pure bloodline vampire, sleep was a luxury he could easily bypass for days until his body demanded it. He had spent the remaining hours of the night buried under his work, sector trade logs, and the files Marrok had pulled from the lower sectors. He had only closed his eyes during the early hours of the morning, letting his mind drift into a trance for less than an hour before the city began to hit the glass panels.
A single, firm knock sounded through the office.
