Speaking of this topic, those who had seen the early leaked information were the most excited.
According to the leakers, Kinich was originally a Dendro character, and there was even a character demo video as evidence.
But during the Special Program livestream, he suddenly became a Pyro character. Even the flames he used were green, which left everyone completely confused.
[In the earlier leaks, Kinich's Vision story stated that he only obtained his Vision after dying in the Night Warden Wars.]
[But now Kinich says this Vision was personally granted by the Pyro Archon. That directly contradicts the leaked information.]
A character's Vision story only unlocks when their Friendship Level reaches 6.
Version 5.0 had only been live for one day. Even if players managed to pull Kinich, there was no way to view his Vision story yet, so they could only speculate based on the leaks.
[Actually, it's not necessarily a contradiction.]
[What if the Pyro Archon saw that Kinich was about to die and granted him an "imitation Vision" in advance? That would explain it.]
[But didn't the leaks say Kinich died during the Night Warden Wars? And Kachina just mentioned that on his first day in office, the Pyro Archon suspended the Pilgrimage of the Return of the Sacred Flame.]
[And the leaked text clearly described Kinich's Vision as green, but now it's red.]
[Then that really doesn't add up.]
[So the leakers even got the character story wrong?]
[But the writing quality of the leaked story was extremely high. It looked exactly like something from the official Genshin Impact development team, not something fabricated.]
[Maybe the leaked version was an early draft that got scrapped. It clearly doesn't match the current Kinich.]
[But why would HoYoverse suddenly make such a drastic change to Kinich?]
[Who knows? Maybe it's just like the Pyro Archon said. In the original timeline, Kinich was destined to be Dendro, but the Pyro Archon intervened early and changed him to Pyro.]
[Is this some kind of fourth wall break?]
[Maybe HoYoverse is using the character's dialogue to mock the leakers.]
The world of Genshin Impact.
At the registration desk of the Sacred Flame Arena.
"Kinich, you're not participating in the Pilgrimage of the Return of the Sacred Flame?"
After hearing his decision, Mualani's eyes widened in shock. Her red pupils were filled with disbelief as she asked anxiously, "We've already come to the Sacred Flame Arena. Why suddenly withdraw?"
Kinich crossed his arms calmly.
"I received a portion of divine authority from the Pyro Archon. While it may be insignificant to him, it has greatly enhanced my strength."
"If I were to participate in the Pilgrimage in this state, it would be unfair to the other competitors."
Some time after the Pilgrimage of the Return of the Sacred Flame was suspended, Caelus shared a fraction of his divine power with Kinich to help combat the Abyssal monsters that had begun appearing throughout Natlan.
Not long after that, Caelus personally took over the task of eradicating those Abyssal monsters. However, the divine authority left within Kinich was never reclaimed.
He was now far stronger than ordinary warriors of Natlan. If he competed in his current state, it would be like Ultraman Taro entering a boxing ring against regular humans. It would be outright bullying.
"But I just saw Mavuika complete her registration." Mualani recalled the red-haired older sister she had seen earlier.
Aside from Kinich, there was another person who had once received a portion of the Pyro Archon's divine authority, and that was Mavuika.
Since Mavuika was participating, shouldn't Kinich be allowed to participate as well?
"I am not the same as Mavuika," Kinich replied, shaking his head.
"In order to participate in the Pilgrimage of the Return of the Sacred Flame, she returned the divine authority she received back to the Pyro Archon. She is now merely an ordinary Vision holder."
"But I have not done so. Therefore, the fairest decision for everyone is for me not to compete."
"Tch. You just can't bear to part with that tiny bit of power the Pyro Archon gave you. How pathetic."
Having finished putting out the flames on his body, Ajaw floated back over and began mocking him again.
"If you were more useful, I would not mind returning the Pyro Archon's divine authority."
Kinich's tone remained flat, but to Ajaw, it sounded like pure provocation.
"Kinich, you dare look down on the great Sacred Dragon!"
Ajaw's fur bristled instantly. His small face flushed red as he lunged toward Kinich, attempting to unleash Fury Swipes.
Kinich did not even blink. With a casual wave of his hand, he smacked Ajaw high into the air.
"I've temporarily sealed Ajaw. That should spare us from his shrill voice for a while."
Kinich then turned toward the visitors from afar.
"Traveler, Paimon. If you would like a better vantage point to watch the event, I can take you there."
Lumine and Paimon exchanged a glance and nodded at the same time.
Paimon spoke first.
"Kinich, instead of just watching as spectators, we'd rather experience the Pilgrimage of the Return of the Sacred Flame ourselves."
"You mean..." Kinich had already guessed what they were about to say.
"We want to register and participate in the Pilgrimage too." Lumine and Paimon placed their hands on their hips in unison, smiling confidently.
After traveling all the way to Natlan, how could they simply sit on the sidelines? Of course they wanted to take part personally.
Unfortunately, Kinich's next words shattered that hope.
"I'm afraid that won't be possible."
"Why not?" Paimon asked in confusion.
"Paimon, Traveler, I forgot to mention earlier."
Kachina spoke somewhat awkwardly.
"The Pilgrimage of the Return of the Sacred Flame is an event that only people of Natlan are permitted to participate in. Foreign visitors may enter the arena as spectators, but they cannot compete."
"So there's actually such a rule." Paimon spread her hands helplessly toward the Traveler. "Looks like we can only watch from the sidelines this time."
Lumine felt somewhat frustrated. She wanted to object, but she was the Traveler, not the Trailblazer. She could not simply pull out a baseball bat and declare that rules were meant to be broken before forcing her way into the competition.
"Don't be discouraged yet." Seeing their disappointment, Mualani smiled brightly.
"We haven't asked the registration desk directly. Maybe they'll agree to let the Traveler participate."
"Is that really possible?" Kachina asked with some uncertainty.
"It should be fine," Mualani replied confidently. "After all, this Pilgrimage isn't the official ceremony. Maybe they can make an exception for foreign participants."
However.
"If you are not a citizen of Natlan, you may not participate in the Pilgrimage of the Return of the Sacred Flame."
The staff member at the registration desk was unwavering. No matter how many reasons Mualani offered, their stance did not change.
"Can't you just make one exception?" Mualani persisted, unwilling to give up.
"No matter how many times you ask, the answer will remain the same," the staff member replied firmly. "Only people of Natlan may compete. Even if the applicant is the renowned Traveler, no exception can be made."
"I see... so it really won't work."
Mualani lowered her gaze slightly. The lively brightness on her face dimmed with disappointment.
Just as she resigned herself to letting the Traveler remain a spectator, a familiar voice echoed within everyone's mind.
"Allow the Traveler and her companion to participate."
It was the voice of the Pyro Archon, Caelus.
