Chapter 8 - A8

"Nick!" Cathalina's voice echoed across the halls of the home they had all settled into.

"Cathy!" he shouted back as he strode over to her, "You called me!" he screamed in her face.

She groaned with a sigh.

"We have a job at noon tomorrow"

"Don't we all?"

She shook her head, "It's just us both" pause "I'll give the update after our morning routine tomorrow but I'll need you to prep everyone that there's gonna be an update"

"Why just us?"

Cathalina turned to look him in the eye,

"You're a captain in training right?"

He nodded, expectant

"That's why"

Huh?

"Cathy that doesn't answer for shit"

"Get to work" she began walking away, "Your update comes tomorrow as well"

Dawn came quick.

Nick gathered the sweaty, energetic team together in the living room.

"Morning everyone" Cathalina began,

"I believe Nick briefed you all about a certain update that would be announced today"

They nodded in agreement.

"Great", "The update is that everyone will retire from their duties after Mr. Fionn's hospital visit" she continued," I and Nick will continue forward for the next appointment with Mr. Fionn"

"Will you guys be alright?" Paul, one of the team mates asked.

"-Yh, just you two may not be enough manpower" another, Ron, suggested.

"Mm, I heard the Fionn guy can be pretty up tight and mean" Estephania added.

Among them, Penny kept silent.

Cathalina glanced at each one of them before turning to Nick,

"He's our client" she began, "We're obligated to act according to his wishes"

Nick spoke, "Well, if we need back up, we call -so be ready?", "No slacking off just cause your job gets done mid-day"

Cathalina nodded, "Any further questions, concerns or suggestions?"

The room sat quiet.

"Then that's it, you can all leave"

Slowly, the team dispersed, leaving Penny and Cathalina in the dimly lit and quiet living room.

Penny noticed as Cathalina headed towards her, yet, she couldn't bring herself to meet her gaze nor could she tell what she was thinking to do.

She hated how difficult this was and how uneasy it made her feel, even though they weren't strangers and so she blamed her autism for it all.

Cathalina wiped the sweat off the surface of the space beside Penny before taking a seat,

"Tell me" She began, leaning on her folded knuckle

The room grew silent.

"Why just you both, why can't we go too?"

"I made that decision"

Penny hesitated, fiddling with her hands and fingers,

"So, we don't matter, are we so useless?"

"No", Cathalina began, "The event is private, so he doesn't need many people just the best two -who better than the team leader and deputy"

Penny nodded.

"Hm" she hummed before taking her leave.

Cathalina watched her leave.

Everyone knew her situation in the team but never felt her different just someone with a little more care when necessary. If anything, they felt proud of her bold decision to throw herself into such a rugged life irrespective of her well-to-do family.

"Yehezkel my boy" Juan smiled as his gaze turned towards his entrance door.

"Juan" he greeted, taking a seat.

"How was your week?"

"Not bad" Yehezkel shrugged, "And You?"

Juan chuckled, "A doctor's week is always the same"

"Try golfing sometimes"

"Mm" he nodded, "Except I don't know how it works" glancing over at Yehezkel, he threw on a smile, "Maybe if I golf with you, I'll get better -or not"

"Mm"

Sometimes it was extremely hard to crack the young man who sat in front of Juan and he accepted this fact wholeheartedly.

"This week's statistics looks alright" Juan diverted, as his gaze turned over to his desk computer, "You're great to go"

Yehezkel stood to his feet carefully, Juan followed as well

"Thank you"

Juan nodded.

"I would like to treat you to a meal one of these days" he paused, "Feel free to pick a date, place and let me know"

"Thank you, Yehezkel, but if anything, I like home cooked meals" he paused, "That's why eating together at my home is the best solution to this", "Come over when you can, yh?"

"Next week?"

"Next week"

The pair nodded in unison before Juan saw him out of his office.

Yehezkel strode out, down the corridors, the elevator and over to his car. It was finally time for golfing with his friends, and Athena.
