Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: A Restless Heart

Above the castle, in her high tower, Princess Nara watched the clouds forming in the distance. She did not know what was happening beyond the mountains, but something stirred inside her too.

Later, the family gathered for breakfast. The long table gleamed with polished silverware and fine porcelain. Plates overflowed with fruit, warm bread, and steaming tea. Servants moved silently, attending to every need.

King Ryan read a letter from an advisor. Queen Natalie poured tea, posture perfect, face serene. Everything about them radiated control and grace.

Nara picked at her food, dark eyes staring at the golden floor, a small frown tugging at her lips. Her mother noticed but said nothing aloud, only a soft, concerned glance.

"I… I'm not hungry," Nara said quietly, pushing her plate away.

Natalie reached out, placing a delicate hand near Nara's. "What troubles you, my daughter?" she asked softly.

Nara's eyes were distant. "I feel trapped… like I cannot breathe. I see the sun and gardens outside, but I cannot touch them. I cannot move freely. I have spent seventeen years inside these walls, and every day feels the same."

The king set down his letter and gave her a measured look.

"Nara, you know why we keep you here. We protect you."

"But why?" Nara whispered, voice trembling slightly. "Why must I be protected from everything? Why can't I choose to step outside? I'm seventeen. I… I want to see the world."

Her mother's eyes softened. "One day, my dear. One day, when the time is right."

Nara rested her chin on her hand, staring out the tall windows at the gardens below. She imagined running through them, feeling the wind on her face, laughing freely.

The room was golden, beautiful, and orderly — yet in her heart, she felt only the weight of the tower and the longing for freedom.

The breakfast continued in polite silence. The king and queen spoke softly of court matters, but Nara's thoughts remained far away, lost in dreams of a world she had never truly known.

Later, she returned to her tower room, staring out at the gardens. The sun warmed the courtyard, but she felt nothing. Her heart ached.

Every day inside the castle felt the same. Lessons, rules, and manners. But outside, the world waited — mountains, forests, rivers, skies. Nara wanted to see it all.

A small, stubborn thought grew inside her. Maybe she would never get answers if she waited. Maybe she would have to discover the world herself — and with it, the truth.

The sun climbed higher. Birds sang. Inside, Nara felt restless. Something stirred — a quiet, determined spark that refused to be ignored.

She took a deep breath. One day, she would step beyond these walls. One day, she would find the world and all the answers it held.

And she would not wait for anyone to give her permission.
