Chapter 2: I Will Show Everyone What a True Friend Can Do

His sister is dead.

His eyes go dark.

From that moment onward, there is no life left inside them.

The boy carries his sister's body through the streets. He walks slowly, carefully, as if rough movement might disturb her rest. People pass by him. Some notice the smell. Some notice the child. No one stops.

No one helps.

Days pass like this.

The smell grows heavier.

A shop owner finally follows it, angry and disgusted. When he reaches the source, he freezes. The boy is sitting there, holding his sister's body, unmoving.

The shop owner feels no pity.

"Take out this disgusting thing," he shouts.

"Bury it somewhere. If you stay here, I'll burn it myself."

The boy does not argue.

He stands up.

At that moment, he understands something clearly.

He cannot stay with his sister anymore.

So he leaves the place.

He walks toward the forest, carrying her with him. His thoughts are simple and empty.

If I die, I will die with my sister.

But the forest does not give him animals.

It gives him bandits.

They surround him. Their leader steps forward. When he sees what the boy is holding, even those men—who kill trading merchants without hesitation—feel something twist inside their chests.

They want to help.

But they know the truth.

Helping a boy who has no desire to live is useless.

"You can join us," the leader says.

"Or you can keep walking."

The boy thinks for a single second.

"No," he replies.

The bandits leave him alone.

As he walks, one thought remains firm in his mind.

My father was an honorable warrior.

I will not walk in the footsteps of darkness.

The road continues.

Then a carriage stops.

Inside it sits a beautiful woman—the saintess of the temple.

Suddenly, she feels something.

A presence.

A soul so pure that her divine power reacts to it.

Her energy surges.

She steps out of the carriage and runs toward that feeling, ignoring everything else.

Then she sees him.

A child carrying death…

yet still standing.

She is shocked.

How can a child endure this much pain?

How cruel is this world?

She walks closer.

"You have a pure soul, kid," she says softly.

"Will you come with me?"

The boy looks at her.

"Will my sister have a peaceful place to rest?" he asks.

"Yes," she answers.

"She will have a peaceful place to rest."

"Then I will come with you," the boy says.

Trying to comfort him, the saintess smiles.

"Don't call me madam," she says.

"You can call me by my name."

The boy shakes his head.

"We are not close," he replies.

"I'm sorry. I can't call you by name."

"Then," she says gently, "be my friend."

She never realizes what she has done.

She has just led that boy into hell.

And in that hell,

he will meet someone who will bring destruction and creation.
