Adelyn knew she didn't need to know who Eira's real mother was.
She didn't need to get involved.
Not too deeply.
But every time now that she saw Eira, she couldn't help but think about that woman.
The woman who had given birth to such a sweet child.
The woman whose absence had once left such a deep longing in Eira's eyes.
So much so that now, even Adelyn's curiosity was getting the better of her.
She stared at Karl, thinking he would take his time to answer. If not, he would at least hesitate for a second.
However, Karl didn't even take another second.
His brows immediately furrowed, and he answered almost on instinct.
"Eira's mother?" he repeated, as though he couldn't understand why she was asking something so obvious. Then, in the very next second, he answered, "Isn't that you, sister-in-law?"

For a moment, she simply stared at him, her brows slowly knitting together in confusion.

"What did you say?" She frowned.
