Chapter 54 - Ōtsutsuki Kaguya

"What the hell is going on?!"

Obito's composure was hanging by a thread. The idea that Black Zetsu wasn't Madara's will but something far older—far deeper—was almost impossible to swallow.

Jin continued calmly, as if narrating history rather than shattering a worldview.

"The root of all this begins with a celestial clan known as the Ōtsutsuki."

"They travel the universe in pairs, searching for worlds that harbor life."

"When they find one, they plant a Divine Tree."

"The Divine Tree devours the planet's life force. When it matures, it bears a chakra fruit—a condensed mass of energy and genetic information."

"And when an Ōtsutsuki consumes that fruit…"

"They evolve."

"Through repeated evolution, they ascend to higher forms of life."

Obito listened in stunned silence.

"Thousands of years ago," Jin continued, "Ōtsutsuki Kaguya and her superior, Ōtsutsuki Isshiki, arrived on this world carrying the seedling of the Divine Tree."

"That seedling was the Ten-Tails."

"Wait… the Ten-Tails… is the Divine Tree's seedling?"

Obito felt a chill crawl up his spine.

The Eye of the Moon Plan required gathering the nine tailed beasts to recreate the Ten-Tails.

That could not be a coincidence.

Jin did not pause.

"The reason Ōtsutsuki travel in pairs is simple."

"The Ten-Tails can only grow into the Divine Tree after consuming an Ōtsutsuki."

"One becomes the sacrifice."

"The other remains to guard the tree until it matures."

"In this case…"

"Kaguya was meant to be the sacrifice."

Obito's mind raced.

If that plan had succeeded—

This world would not exist.

"So something happened," Obito muttered.

"Yes," Jin said evenly. "Though a sacrificed Ōtsutsuki can revive through a technique called a Karma seal, for reasons unknown, Kaguya betrayed Isshiki before the ritual could complete."

"She pushed him into the Ten-Tails instead."

"She made him the offering."

Obito's breath caught.

After that, Jin explained, Kaguya remained on this world.

But her peace did not last.

"The Ōtsutsuki clan is vast. Others would eventually come."

"Kaguya feared their arrival."

"So she began preparing for war."

"She consumed the immature chakra fruit, becoming the origin of chakra on this planet."

"With overwhelming power, she subdued the world and was worshipped as the Rabbit Goddess."

"She bore two sons—Hagoromo and Hamura—hoping they would stand beside her."

"And then…"

"She cast a limited version of Infinite Tsukuyomi."

"To transform the native humans into weapons known as White Zetsu."

Obito's eyes widened.

"Wait!"

"You're saying Infinite Tsukuyomi… turns people into White Zetsu?!"

His stomach dropped.

White Zetsu was not an abstraction to him.

Half of his body was reconstructed from their flesh.

Madara's underground base housed thousands of them.

Were they—

Former humans?

The implication sickened him.

Jin nodded.

"Yes."

"Infinite Tsukuyomi is not salvation."

"It is mass conversion."

"Kaguya intended to create disposable soldiers."

Obito's expression darkened.

The "paradise" he clung to—

Was originally a factory for cannon fodder.

Jin continued.

"Kaguya knew White Zetsu alone could not defeat the Ōtsutsuki."

"They were meant to stall."

"Her true hope rested in her sons."

"But she underestimated something."

Obito frowned.

"What?"

Jin's voice softened slightly.

"Kaguya came from beyond the stars."

"She viewed humans as insects."

"She treated even her sons as subordinates."

"She never explained her fears."

"Never shared the truth."

"But Hagoromo and Hamura were born here."

"They grew up among humans."

"They saw the world differently."

"They did not see insects."

"They saw companions."

"So when they discovered their mother was turning people into White Zetsu…"

"They believed she had become a tyrant."

Obito hesitated.

"She wasn't trying to dominate the world?"

Jin gave a faint, humorless smile.

"To Kaguya, ruling insects isn't tyranny."

"It's management."

"She was defeated not by cruelty…"

"But by arrogance."

For months, mother and sons battled.

In the end—

Hagoromo and Hamura sealed Kaguya away.

On the moon.

"And before the seal was complete," Jin concluded, "Kaguya used the last of her power to create her third child."

"Black Zetsu."

"A will incarnate."

"A failsafe."

"To one day free her."

Obito stood motionless.

"So Infinite Tsukuyomi…"

"…is one of the conditions required to break Kaguya's seal."

Jin's eyes were steady.

"Yes."

The illusionary paradise.

The "world of love."

Was never about peace.

It was about resurrection.
