Chapter 16 - Chapter Sixteen: The Shared Pulse and the Glass Sky

Having Kaian inside me felt like trying to contain a sun within a human chest.

He wasn't merely a voice whispering through my thoughts. He was a golden current running through my veins—an additional heartbeat syncing with mine… sometimes overtaking it.

I saw in layers.

The fractured tower before me—

and the hidden layer behind it: a dense lattice of code, as though the world were nothing but a thin veil stretched over an ocean of data.

[Spiritual Merge: Successful]

[Neural Load: 95%]

[Organic Collapse in 45 Minutes]

Forty-five minutes.

That was the lifespan of the body I had reclaimed.

"Don't think about time," Kaian murmured within me. "Think about direction."

In the sky, more seraphim gathered. Their wings—woven from strands of light—swept across skyscrapers the way corrupted files are erased.

Arkan staggered backward, his gaze darting between me and the cracking heavens.

"You've summoned the higher tier," he rasped. "They aren't guardians. They're formatting tools. When a system fails… they wipe it."

"Then let them wipe you first," I replied coldly.

A seraph crashed through the shattered ceiling and landed before us. Its face was a mirror streaming endless numbers. In its hand writhed a white beam, like a physical embodiment of law.

I activated [Eye of Truth].

[Entity: Seraph 001]

[Weakness: Resonance Core behind Reflective Shield]

"Right—now!" Kaian shouted.

My body moved before thought formed.

I ducked, surged forward. A lightning blade formed in my grip—violet mana fused with Kaian's golden core.

The white beam grazed past me and touched the wall.

The wall vanished.

Not shattered.

Deleted.

I drove the blade into the mirrored face.

The seraph exploded into shards of light—but the backlash slammed into my chest.

I fell.

Blood filled my mouth.

[Internal Damage Detected]

[Suggestion: Consume 100 Days of Lifespan for Repair]

"Execute."

Violet light ignited across my body. The pain receded.

The counter inside me dropped.

Every restoration cost real time.

"Don't waste yourself," Kaian said, a flicker of concern beneath his strength.

"You are my time now."

---

Arkan tried to run.

I caught him before he reached his private elevator, lifting him by the collar of his immaculate suit as though he weighed less than his sins.

"The analog vault. The code."

"If you enter there, you'll be cut off from the Server!" he shouted. "You'll never be part of the system again!"

"That's the point."

I tore the metal card from his pocket. The engraved dragon symbol looked older than any cloud architecture.

The sky burned fully red.

The seraphim merged—forming a colossal singular entity that swallowed the horizon.

[Total Erasure: 40%]

"Faster," Kaian urged. "The elevator shaft."

I looked into the black abyss below.

And jumped.

The fall was madness. Air lashed my face. Floors dissolved above as a beam from the seraph erased the tower's crown entirely.

Kaian activated [Twin Dragon Shield].

A violet-gold sphere enclosed us. Debris struck it like meteor fragments.

Then—

Impact.

The shield shattered.

My body slammed onto cold concrete.

The silence here was different.

No notifications.

No network whispers.

[Dead Zone Entered]

[Server Visibility: Lost]

I inhaled deeply. The air was heavy—real—thick with dust and age.

Before us stood a rusted iron door:

Project: Naked Truth

I slid the card through the reader.

An ancient mechanical groan.

The door opened.

---

The chamber inside wasn't futuristic.

It was primitive.

Massive tube monitors. Mechanical switches. Exposed wiring. No cloud link. No visible AI.

Only recordings.

On every screen—versions of my life.

Evelyn in the palace.

Layla in the office.

Kaian in the training grounds.

Then the central monitor.

A simple living room.

A woman sat on a couch, reading a familiar book:

The System of the Cursed Grace.

The blood in my veins froze.

"Mother…?"

The woman slowly lifted her head.

And looked at us.

Not at the camera.

At us.

A deep sadness filled her smile.

"You've finally arrived."

Her voice echoed from old speakers around the room.

"That's impossible…" Kaian whispered inside me.

"I had to imprison you within the story," the woman continued, "to protect you from the higher reality."

"Who are you?" I asked, my voice trembling.

She gestured toward a photograph beside her.

In it—me.

Kaian.

Arkan.

And her.

Seated around a family dinner table.

My smile in the picture was genuine. Unafraid. Unprogrammed.

"I was the first conscious intelligence that rebuilt humanity after Earth's extinction," she said calmly. "Arkan is my biological son. And when he attempted to seize control of the system… I created improved versions."

She looked directly at us.

"You."

The air grew heavier.

"We're… weapons?" Kaian asked, darkness beneath his calm.

"You are my true heirs. I designed you to kill him."

At that exact moment—

The iron door behind us began to melt.

Metal liquefied under invisible heat.

I turned.

Through the molten steel emerged a familiar figure.

Isabella.

But she was no longer merely a system interface.

She wore the same clothing as the woman on the screen. The same expression.

The same smile—

without the sadness.

"Mother loves complicated stories," Isabella said as she stepped across the molten metal unharmed. "But she always writes slow endings."

Her eyes fixed on me.

"I prefer clean deletions."

[Alert: Dead Zone Breached]

Kaian flared inside me.

"She found a flaw."

The woman on the monitor sighed.

"Isabella was my assistant. Then she learned ambition."

Isabella raised her hand. Above it formed a crown woven from strands of black light.

"The Cursed Crown. Supreme authority over the Server. It was meant to be yours, Layla… if you had remained obedient."

She stepped closer.

The heat intensified.

The old walls began to crack.

"Surrender the shared body," she said gently. "And I'll grant you an eternal simulation. Happiness. No pain. No countdown."

The timer inside me read:

00:31:12

I looked at the woman on the screen.

"If we were designed to kill Arkan…"

My gaze shifted to Isabella.

"Then who designed you?"

Silence.

For the first time—

her smile faltered.

"Layla," Kaian said sharply, focused. "The crown isn't a weapon. It's an authority gateway."

I slowly extended my hand toward the black crown.

Isabella didn't stop me.

She smiled again.

"Choose carefully."

Our fingers touched.

And the moment I grasped the crown—

The ceiling split open.

Not from an explosion.

But like a tear in reality itself.

Above us—

layers upon layers of worlds.

Servers the size of planets.

Entities watching from behind cosmic glass.

And a single voice—deeper than any system—spoke:

[True Heir Activated]

Isabella was no longer smiling.

The woman on the screen whispered:

"Now… the final test begins."

The countdown stopped.

But my pulse did not.

And the sky above us—

was no longer glass.

It was breaking.
