Chapter 12 - SeventeenthSeason 2 – Chapter 2“The Burned Facility

It was 11:07 PM.

The sky was heavy with clouds.

The air felt thick — like something was about to break.

Aanya stood outside the ruins of the abandoned research facility.

Ten years ago, this place had burned down in what authorities called an electrical accident.

Now—

Only blackened walls remained.

Broken windows.

Charred beams.

And silence.

Too much silence.

She turned off her car headlights.

Darkness swallowed everything.

Using her phone flashlight, she stepped forward.

The main entrance hung crookedly on one hinge.

It hadn't just burned.

It had been destroyed.

Inside—

The smell of ash still lingered.

Parts of the ceiling had collapsed.

Metal cabinets lay twisted.

The floor was covered in fragments of burnt paper.

Aanya knelt and picked up a half-charred document.

One phrase was still readable:

Behavioral Monitoring Log

Her heartbeat quickened.

This wasn't a hospital.

It was something else.

Something organized.

A faint sound echoed behind her.

Footsteps.

She spun around.

"Who's there?" she demanded.

For a moment — nothing.

Then a voice from the shadows:

"You shouldn't have come here."

A man stepped into the light.

Mid-thirties. Calm expression. Alert eyes.

"Who are you?" she asked.

He studied her carefully.

"I could ask you the same thing… Subject 13."

Her breath stopped.

"How do you know that name?"

"Because I worked here."

The First Layer of Truth

"My name is Aarav," he said.

"I was a technical assistant here. Ten years ago."

Aanya's pulse pounded in her ears.

"What was this place?"

He hesitated — then answered.

"It was the primary site for something called Project 13."

She swallowed.

"What kind of project?"

"Behavioral conditioning," he said quietly.

"Psychological resilience studies. Emotional suppression training."

Her stomach twisted.

"For what purpose?"

"To create individuals who don't break under pressure.

Who don't hesitate.

Who can be shaped."

The words felt cold.

Controlled.

Calculated.

And You?

"Was I born here?" Aanya whispered.

Aarav shook his head slowly.

"No. You were brought here."

"Why me?"

"Because your father worked with them."

The world seemed to tilt.

"No," she said immediately. "That's not possible."

"He tried to leave," Aarav added quickly.

"He gathered evidence. That same year… the year Karan died."

Her thoughts raced.

Lake.

Land deals.

Silence.

Fire.

"It wasn't just about redevelopment," Aarav continued.

"The organization needed control over water-adjacent land for long-term infrastructure operations."

"Operations?" she asked.

He looked toward the shattered window.

"Facilities like this one."

The Fire

"How did this place burn down?" she asked.

Aarav's jaw tightened.

"Someone inside tried to expose them.

The response was immediate."

"Someone?"

"Yes. And that person is still alive."

Before she could ask more—

Headlights flashed outside the broken windows.

One car.

Then another.

Then a third.

Aarav froze.

"They found us."

"Who?" Aanya demanded.

"The Organization."

Car doors slammed.

Heavy footsteps approached.

A calm, familiar male voice echoed from outside:

"Subject 13… come outside. We don't want to hurt you."

Her blood ran cold.

It was the same voice from the phone call.

A loud crack shattered the silence.

A bullet struck the wall near them.

Concrete dust exploded into the air.

"Down!" Aarav shouted.

They dropped to the floor.

Another shot.

Glass shattered.

The beam above them splintered.

Aanya's hands trembled—

But her eyes were steady.

For the first time—

She wasn't confused.

She wasn't scared.

She was angry.

"They've been watching me," she whispered.

"Yes," Aarav replied.

"And they're afraid."

"Of what?"

"Of what you might remember."

Outside, the voice spoke again—

"You don't know who you are yet, Aanya.

But we do."

Silence followed.

Then footsteps entering the building.

Slow.

Confident.

Calculated.

Aarav leaned closer.

"If you want the truth… you have to trust me. Now."

Another shadow appeared at the doorway.

And this time—

They were inside.
