Chapter 16 - A Call After the Message

Time passed, and it was already 3 PM.

Lukas and Arthur were hanging out in Arthur's room when suddenly, a message popped up in their group chat. It was Elliene—he wanted to wander around the city.

Lukas and Arthur glanced at each other.

"You coming?" Arthur asked.

Lukas nodded. "Yeah… kinda bored. You?"

"Yeah, let's go join Elliene," Arthur replied.

"Wait, let me shower first," Lukas said.

Lukas was about to leave the room when he suddenly stopped at the door. He turned around.

"Uhmm… can I borrow your clothes?" Lukas asked with a smile.

Arthur looked him up and down, his eyes scanning from head to toe as if judging his height. "Not sure if I have your size."

"Hey! I'm not that small. My height is just average—it's just that you're taller than me," Lukas protested.

Arthur laughed. "Hahaha, just search there. See if you can find something your size," he said, pointing at his clothes.

Not long after, they headed to their meeting place—the mall.

As Lukas and Arthur were walking, Lukas suddenly grinned mischievously.

"Hey… let's prank Elli."

"Uhh…" Arthur hesitated, already looking uneasy.

Soon, they spotted Elliene.

"Miss, can you give me some money to buy food?" an unfamiliar voice reached Elliene.

Elliene frowned slightly, unable to see the person clearly since their head was lowered.

"Sorry, I don't have enough—"

Suddenly, someone covered Elliene's eyes.

"Everyone help!!!" Elliene shouted loudly, right outside the mall.

People immediately turned to look. The hand quickly pulled away.

"Surprise!" Lukas said, smiling proudly at his joke.

"Miss us?" he added.

Knock!

"Awh!" Lukas yelped as Elliene hit his head.

Elliene then looked at Arthur and noticed his expression—it looked like he had been forced into this.

"Didn't you say you were bored…?" Lukas pouted.

"Yeah, I'm bored, but I didn't say I wanted to get kidnapped," Elliene snapped.

"Stop overreacting. Who would kidnap a girl this aggressive, feisty… and also stinks?" Lukas teased, laughing.

"Well, I understand if I get kidnapped—I'm so pretty. Like, where would you even find someone like me?" Elliene shot back proudly.

"There's no one as stinky as you," Lukas fired back, clearly trying to annoy her.

Elliene and Lukas glared at each other like two raging dogs ready to fight.

Arthur sighed, rubbing his temples. "Okay, calm down. We're in public—stop fighting like dogs."

"Let's just eat something," Arthur said.

But before he could finish his sentence, both Lukas and Elliene were already thinking about food.

"I recently saw that viral coffee shop around here," Lukas said, scrolling through his phone.

"Yeah, but Kayla's coffee shop is better," he added, sounding like a loyal soldier defending his favorite spot.

Soon, they arrived at the coffee shop. When it was their turn to order, Lukas glanced at the menu—and his eyes widened.

He leaned closer to Elliene and Arthur, lowering his voice.

"Hey… it's hella expensive here."

"Let's just order at Miss Kayla's instead," he added, maintaining a straight face.

Then, with a helpless expression, he spoke again, "I'll just get a plain iced coffee… and no bread."

(Even the bread looked expensive.)

Elliene gave him a reassuring look and pull out her card and whispered, "No worries, brother."

Lukas immediately straightened up, placing a hand over his chest like a devoted knight.

"Long live my lovely sister," he said dramatically.

"Then I'll order an iced Spanish latte—large—plus a cinnamon roll and one Danish pastry," Lukas added.

Elliene and Arthur both looked at him, surprised by the sudden shift in his order.

"Didn't expect you were holding that much…" Elliene said, still amazed.

Lukas only smiled softly, almost angelic.

"My apologies, Master," he said, bowing slightly, his hand moving like a disciplined ninja before a sensei.

"You, Arthur—what's your order?" Elliene asked.

"Just a small iced cappuccino," Arthur replied.

"Alright, boys. Find a seat—I'll handle this," Elliene said confidently, posing like a caring mother. Arthur was speechless, while Lukas looked at her in awe.

The two boys found a seat, and soon after, Elliene joined them.

A few minutes later, their drinks and food arrived.

Lukas's eyes lit up in excitement—just as Arthur reached for his drink.

"Wait, wait!" Lukas and Elliene said at the same time.

In an instant, both of them pulled out their phones, taking countless pictures of the food and drinks.

"I'm posting this on social media—you two better like it," Elliene said.

"Yeah, me too—like mine as well!" Lukas added.

Arthur sighed. "Can I drink now…?"

"Wait, we didn't even take a picture together," Lukas quickly said.

"So whose phone are we using?" he added.

"Mine," Elliene replied. Her phone was the latest model from a well-known brand.

"Alright, get ready and pose," she said, turning into the official photographer.

"Send that to the group chat," Lukas said.

Arthur let out another quiet sigh. "Can I drink now…?" he asked again, his expression calm but tired.

"Yeah, let's eat!" Lukas finally said.

"You guys wanna try a bite?" he asked afterward.

"I'm good," Arthur replied. "You ordered way too many sweet things… won't you get diabetes?"

"I don't know.... what about you Elli?" Lukas asked.

"I'll try the Danish pastry," Elliene said.

She took a bite and nodded. "Hmm… it's sweet and really good."

"Yes, it's so yummy!" Lukas said, happily eating like a child.

After finishing their food, Lukas leaned back and smiled.

"So… what's our next destination, sister?"

"Karaoke" Elliene answered.

Time passed, and soon the clock struck 10 p.m.

By nightfall, the moon had risen, casting a soft glow over the city. Inside a karaoke room, Elliene, Arthur, and Lukas sat together, laughter and music filling the air.

"How deep is your love~?" Elliene sang into the microphone, her voice echoing through the room.

"Is it like the ocean—" she continued, completely immersed in the song.

Suddenly, Lukas's phone began to ring.

"Oh, I've got to take this," Lukas said, holding up his phone as proof.

Elliene was too focused on singing to notice.

"Alright, Luke," Arthur replied.

Lukas stepped outside the room and glanced at his phone.

Hmm… who's calling?

He checked the screen.

Oh, it's my fellow major student.

"Hello?" Lukas answered.

"Hey, it's Josh," the voice on the other end said. "I just wanted to let you know that our schedule got moved earlier tomorrow, so don't be late."

"Oh, shit—" Lukas muttered in surprise.

He quickly checked his schedule. It had indeed changed.

"Thanks for informing me, Josh," Lukas said, his expression turning into a small, defeated frown.

After ending the call, Lukas went back inside.

"Sorry, guys, I've got to go," he said.

"Why?" Arthur asked, while Elliene continued singing in the background.

"Well, apparently my schedule changed—it's earlier than before," Lukas explained. Since they all had different majors, the change didn't affect the others.

"Well, see you tomorrow then," Arthur said.

"I'll give your clothes back tomorrow. Thanks!" Lukas added.

"Sure. We'll probably leave after Elliene runs out of saliva from singing," Arthur joked with a laugh.

"Hahaha. Say goodbye to Elliene for me. Bye, Arth."

A few minutes later, Elliene finished her song.

"Who's next, guys?" she asked, turning around—only to see Arthur.

"Uh… where's Luke?" Elliene frowned.

"I kidnapped him," Arthur joked.

Elliene shot him a sharp, aggressive look.

"Okay, okay, chill. Lukas's schedule changed—it's earlier than before, so he had to leave," Arthur quickly explained.

"Oh… I see," Elliene sighed. "In that case, let's go home. It's already night."

"Yeah. See you tomorrow," Arthur said.

Soon, the two parted ways under the quiet night sky.
