Chapter 115 - Crystal Desert (4)

The precarious balance of the battle shattered not because of Lloyd's intervention, but due to a biological anomaly claiming its place at the apex of the food chain.

The ground, already punished by plasma detonations and tectonic stresses, fragmented in a radial symmetry. This was no gradual emergence; it was an eruption of geological violence. From the abyssal depths of the mantle, where pressure converts carbon to diamond and life is a theoretical impossibility, rose the King of the Subsoil.

Its size reduced the previous worms to mere larvae. It measured four times the length of its kin, a serpentine mass nearly six kilometers long that darkened the horizon of the Crystal Desert. Its color was not the smoky quartz of the others, but a deep amethyst hue, a purple coloration vibrating with an internal luminescence. Most terrifying, however, was its coating: the worm was enveloped in flames of a lilac and violet shade, the result of a hyper-exothermic chemical reaction.
