Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Not on the Same Path

Jackie turned toward the door when he heard the voice.

At some point during the confrontation, a young man had entered the shop.

"Of course not!" Finn replied immediately when faced with Shen's question.

"That doesn't count as a threat," Zhou added.

"At most, it's a reasonable warning," Rasu said, scratching his head.

Seeing Shen's questioning gaze, Finn sighed.

"Alright, Shen. It was a threat. But this is Uncle's job. You shouldn't learn from me."

Zhou and Rasu looked slightly embarrassed.

"Shen… how did you get here? Weren't you—"

Before Finn could finish, the little girl under his hand had already slipped away.

"Shen!"

Jade ran to the door excitedly.

"When did you get here? I gave you the address, but I didn't expect you to visit so soon!"

She grabbed his sleeve happily.

"Jade! Don't do that!" Jackie was startled. In his view, Shen clearly belonged to the same group as these men.

Shen gently patted Jade's head.

"Uncle Finn told me to explore San Francisco. You're my only friend here, so I came to visit."

That explanation answered Finn's unspoken question as well.

"Of course we're friends!" Jade nodded seriously. "You can visit anytime!"

"Then I'll come often," Shen said with a smile.

"Of course you can!"

"Absolutely not!"

Jade and Uncle spoke almost at the same time.

Uncle had emerged from the back room without anyone noticing.

Jade turned around in disbelief.

"Why not? Shen is my friend! My only friend in San Francisco!"

"Still no."

Uncle walked over, pulled Jade to his side, and said firmly, "You are not friends. He is not one of us."

Shen frowned slightly.

Had Uncle seen something?

He didn't believe Uncle could detect his transmigrator identity. Even if Uncle was powerful in the series, it shouldn't be that simple.

But Uncle's reaction was unusually intense.

Jade immediately protested.

"You can't just call Shen a bad person because he's dressed in black! That's just his style! And black looks cool!"

Bad person?

Shen's eyes flickered.

Was Uncle referring to his connection with the Dark Chi faction?

Finn's expression darkened.

"Hey, old man. What do you mean by that?" he snapped. "Explain yourself. How is my nephew a bad person?"

Uncle ignored him completely and returned to the back room.

That dismissive attitude angered Finn immediately.

"It seems I need to teach this old man with poor eyesight a lesson."

He rolled up his sleeves and stepped forward with Rasu and Zhou.

Before they could act, Jackie stood in front of Jade.

"I think I should first teach you what it means to respect your elders."

The tension thickened.

But just as things were about to escalate—

Finn suddenly turned around.

"Jackie Chan, remember to bring the shield tomorrow."

As he passed Shen, he grabbed his arm.

"Shen, let's go."

Shen didn't resist. He simply waved.

"Goodbye, Jade."

"Come visit again!" Jade shouted, jumping excitedly.

After they left, Jade huffed and stormed upstairs, ignoring Jackie completely.

Jackie scratched his head helplessly.

"Difficult to handle…"

Inside the car.

"Shen, since that old man doesn't welcome you, there's no need to visit that antique shop," Finn said, patting his shoulder. "It's old and boring anyway."

"San Francisco has lots of fun places," Rasu added enthusiastically. "There's an amusement park giving out free donuts!"

"Thank you, Uncle Rasu," Shen replied calmly. "But I don't like donuts."

In the driver's seat, Zhou was speaking to a screen.

"You mean the mission failed?"

"Not failed," Zhou quickly explained. "The archaeologist just refused to hand over the shield."

On the other end, Valmont frowned.

"I'll send someone to assist you. Toru. Wait… who is that?"

He noticed a third figure in the back seat.

"That's Finn's nephew," Zhou explained. "He's here for vacation."

Valmont waved dismissively.

"Bring me the shield. It is very important."

The call ended.

Meanwhile, back at the antique shop—

"The shield isn't important," Uncle muttered while examining a book with a magnifying glass. "Magic is the key."

"But they're clearly after the shield," Jackie said, confused.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

"We have guests. Jade, please open the door," Jackie called.

"Hmph."

Jade crossed her arms and refused.

Jackie sighed and went to answer it himself.

When he opened the door, he saw a familiar bald head.

"Captain Black! You've been missing for six years!"

Captain Black smiled slightly.

"Long time no see, Jackie. I'd like to explain something to you. A certain secret intelligence agency."

"Can you step outside for a moment?"

Jade's ears twitched at the word "secret."

Trusting his old friend, Jackie nodded.

"Uncle, I'm stepping out for a bit!"

Uncle waved absentmindedly without looking up from his book.

"Jade, stay home and don't run around."

"Hmph."

Jackie laughed awkwardly and left with Captain Black.

The moment the door closed, Jade glanced at Uncle—still absorbed in reading.

Then she whispered mischievously:

"I won't." 🐉
