Chapter 3 - chapter 3

The Realm of Vanishing

In an age long forgotten, there existed an isolated settlement known as Veyrmoor, concealed within the ominous depths of a vast, spectral woodland called Wraithwood. The forest was notorious for its inexplicable phenomena, particularly the forbidden northern region, where any individual who ventured beyond its boundaries was said to vanish without leaving the slightest trace.

Yet, after every disappearance, an unsettling remnant would eventually emerge. The garments of the vanished individual would mysteriously be discovered suspended from the branches of an ancient tree known as Whisperthorn. According to the village elders, the northern wilderness was inhabited by malevolent spirits that abducted unsuspecting travelers and subsequently devoured them.

Among the inhabitants, however, lived a young man named Kael Veyron, whose rationalistic disposition rendered him skeptical of these ancestral tales. He considered the supposed apparitions nothing more than an elaborate superstition, believing that some ferocious creature dwelling within the wilderness was responsible for the disappearances. To him, generations of retelling had transformed an ordinary occurrence into an incomprehensible legend.

Driven by an insatiable curiosity to expose the reality concealed beneath the folklore, Kael resolved to venture into the forbidden northern expanse of Wraithwood. He equipped himself with an axe for protection and carried provisions, a tent, and sufficient supplies to endure several days should his search prove prolonged.

For hours, Kael traversed the tangled wilderness, scrutinizing every obscure trail and concealed corner. Yet, despite his exhaustive investigation, he encountered neither spirits nor any evidence capable of substantiating the villagers' beliefs.

Eventually, convinced that his expedition had yielded nothing, Kael commenced his return journey toward Veyrmoor.

Then, without warning, an unfamiliar rustling emanated from the thicket.

A sudden uneasiness seized him. Nevertheless, suppressing his apprehension, Kael cautiously approached the source of the disturbance. What emerged from the foliage was neither an apparition nor a spirit, but a savage beast of terrifying ferocity—a creature responsible for the mysterious disappearances.

Kael attempted to retreat, but soon realized that fleeing would merely postpone the danger. Summoning his courage, he hastened toward his abandoned campsite, retrieved his axe, and confronted the creature.

What followed was a prolonged and arduous struggle between man and beast. Despite the creature's overwhelming ferocity, Kael refused to surrender. After a desperate confrontation, he ultimately succeeded in defeating the beast.

When Kael finally returned to Veyrmoor, he revealed the truth behind the village's most enduring mystery. The supposed spirits were nothing more than an ancient superstition concealing the existence of a savage predator.

His revelation spread rapidly throughout the settlement, and Kael Veyron—once regarded merely as a skeptic—became celebrated as the hero who had penetrated Wraithwood's darkest secret.
