Chapter 38 - The Midnight Celebration and Gift

Authors POV

The night before their birthday 🎂

The air in the master suite was thick with the scent of expensive cologne and the faint, metallic tang of Jay's favorite cleaning solvent. To any outsider, the "Ice King" and the "Sunshine" looked like they were winding down for the night.

Keifer was buttoning a charcoal shirt, his movements precise, while Jay sat at her vanity, removing her earrings with a practiced, lethal grace.

But beneath the surface, two of the most dangerous minds in the business world were communicating without speaking a single word.

Keifer's POV

I watched Jay through the reflection of the mirror. She was acting tired, playing the part of the overworked consultant perfectly. But I knew the tilt of her head. I knew the way her fingers lingered a fraction of a second too long on her desk drawer where she kept her encrypted comms.

Something was rotting in the state of our mansion.

"Aion was off today," I said, my voice low and conversational. I stepped toward the window, pulling the heavy velvet curtain back just an inch. Below, in the courtyard, I saw the silhouette of a delivery truck. It didn't have the markings of our usual grocery supplier. "He's a Tier-1 combatant. He doesn't miss a block by three inches unless he's distracted. And that 'sparring session'? He was checking his watch every two minutes."

Jay stood up, walking toward me. She rested her head on my shoulder, but I felt her eyes scanning the room for bugs. "It's not just Aion, Keifer. Keiren and Keigan are geniuses, but they're terrible liars. That 'Economic Gala' project? The code they showed me wasn't for a school. It was a high-level logistical shell. They were trying to track shipments coming into the private docks. Specifically, shipments of vintage alcohol and… I think I smelled black silk in the hallway."

I turned, catching her gaze. "Jane and Ella were studying a toaster like it was a thermal detonator when I walked into the kitchen. And Kyle? Kyle wouldn't look me in the eye. Usually, he's trying to challenge my authority; today, he looked like he was praying I wouldn't open the pantry."

"They're planning something," Jay murmured. "A coup? A hit?"

I shook my head. "No. If it were a hit, Felix would have sharpened his knives. He was too busy arguing with Josh about 'silver alignment.' It's a celebration. A surprise."

Jay sighed, a small smirk playing on her lips. "Our birthday. They think they're being subtle. They've forgotten who are we."

" They think they are ghost. But they're more like clumsy poltergeists. Aion's defensive blocks were sloppy today because he was too busy checking the delivery schedule for 'extra-large carbon dioxide canisters.' What does a birthday need with industrial-grade fog machines?"

I said, pulling her closer. " Let them play.We have our own shadows to manage tonight. They have no idea that by 18:00 HRS tonight, the global markets are going to realize that we aren't just the 'Ice King' and the 'Subshine'' of the underworld. We are the architects of the new economy."

Jay's POV

The mention of the servers shifted my focus. As much as our "family" of warriors and hackers thought they were the masters of secrets, Keifer and I held the ultimate card.

To the world, I was the heads of the underground world. But in the legitimate corporate world, I was the anonymous titans behind JJM and Keifer behind MKW Enterprises.

For past few years, we had built an empire that controlled 40% of the global tech and shipping lanes. No one—neither our parents —nor even our closest friends downstairs knew that the "Ice King" and the "Sunshine" were the CEOs of the two fastest-growing conglomerates in history.

Tonight was the final phase of the merger.

"The reveal is scheduled at 18:00 hrs," I whispered into Keifer's ear. "The press releases are sitting in a timed queue. By the time of gala, the world will know that

JJM and MKW are merging under a single banner. They'll finally see the faces of the people who own their debt."

Keifer leaned his forehead against mine. "Our family thinks we're just dangerous. They have no idea we're also the richest people on the planet. It's almost a shame to ruin the surprise of their little party with a global economic earthquake."

"Let's give them their moment first," I said. "We'll play the clueless couple for a few more hours. But Keifer? If I see one more 'Economic Gala' spreadsheet from those two and terrible lies from others, I'm actually going to make them run to the border."

23:45 HRS – The Descent

The mansion was earily quiet. Keifer and I walked down the grand staircase, dressed in matching black— outfit habit was a hard thing to break.(Check comment) ➡️

As we reached the sub-level ballroom entrance, I felt the shift in the air. The silence was "forced." I could hear Ben's heavy breathing behind a pillar and the faint rustle of Cin's dress.

Keifer gripped my hand. He gave me a look that said, Act surprised or I'm cutting their dessert budget.

We pushed the heavy obsidian doors open.

"SURPRISE!"

The lights exploded into a blinding display of silver and black. Streamers fell like rain. The room, which usually felt like a cold fortress, had been transformed into a masterpiece of dark elegance.

Jane, Mia, and Freya stood at the front, holding a banner that read: TO THE KING AND HIS QUEEN.

Aion was grinning like an idiot, still in his MMA gear but with a party hat perched precariously on his head. Felix and Josh were standing by a bar stocked with enough vintage bourbon to sink a ship.

"You… you did all this?" I said, my voice trembling just enough to be convincing. I felt Keifer's arm tighten around my waist. He was doing his "stunned" face—which mostly just looked like he was slightly less angry than usual.

"We've been planning from last week!" Keiren shouted, jumping forward with Keigan. "The logistics project? That was just to get you out of the way so we could wire the sound system!"

"And the toaster?" Keifer asked, looking at Jane.

Jane flushed. "We were hiding the three-tier obsidian cake in the industrial fridge behind it. You almost saw the frosting!"

"Happiest Birthday Princess ", said Ma Serina and Pa Keizer together hugging me completely ignoring Keifer.

"Wow ! You forget your own son", Keifer said pouting like a kid.

"Happy birthday , Keifer",Ma Jeana and Pa Jasfher wished hugging me.Keifer had a smirk on his face after that. I only smiled back. He looked like a child who got a trophy.

"Happy Birthday Ate and Kuya ", Keigan and Keiren wished them

Angelo, Aries ,Gemma and rest of them wished them birthday . Then Kyle stepped forward, holding two glasses of the rarest champagne in existence. "To the Sunshine and his King. Happy Birthday, Keifer. Happy Birthday, Jay."

The room erupted in cheers. For a moment, the weight of our secrets lifted. We laughed, we drank, and we watched our "warriors" act like the children they rarely got to be.

"Alright , birthday boy and girl so here is our gift to you ", Freya said to them,"We booked a suite for both of you.Far from city , far from chaos , just you too. Enjoy your day", she said handing them key.

Keifer and Jay looked at their parents and they gave them a nod."You both don't you dare cross a line", Angelo warned them supported by Kyle and Percy.

Both of them went to their cars and moved towards their private suite.
