Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: Yao Qian at the Door

The scene of the Deep-sea Guardian blasting the Rotten Merman to pieces last night not only intimidated the sea monsters but also allowed Qin Yu to sleep soundly.

Early the next morning.

The dark clouds over the sea pressed even lower, almost within reach.

Within the ink-black clouds, purple lightning bolts writhed and roared like ferocious dragons churning through the sea of clouds.

Fierce winds whipped salty seawater, splattering noisily against the windows of the second-floor wooden cabin.

The final day of the Dark Tide Period.

The true test had arrived.

Qin Yu stood before the floor-to-ceiling window on the second floor, gazing at the hellish scene outside without a trace of fear on his face.

He held a freshly brewed cup of hot coffee.

Steam rose from it.

In this cold morning of the apocalypse, it felt exceptionally luxurious.

"System."

Qin Yu called out in his mind.

"Daily lottery draw."

Although his supplies were already plentiful, he would never complain about having too many trump cards.

The familiar virtual wheel materialized before his eyes once more.

The pointer spun rapidly.

Qin Yu remained calm.

With yesterday's Deep-sea Guardian, he was already ninety percent confident about today's defensive battle.

But if he could get something good again, it would be the icing on the cake.

"Stop."

Qin Yu silently commanded.

The pointer gradually slowed, passing several white and blue slots.

Finally.

It came to rest within a dazzling golden light!

Golden light!

S-rank!

Qin Yu's pupils contracted sharply, his hand even trembling slightly enough to make the coffee ripple.

[Ding!]

[Congratulations, Host! Incredible luck!]

[Acquired: S-rank "Doomsday Ark" exclusive component - Presidential Executive Suite (Modular)]

[Description: This isn't just a room - it's a mobile five-star hotel. Fully bulletproof glass, independent water and power systems, top-tier soundproofing, climate control.]

[Configuration: Master bedroom x1, secondary bedrooms x2, oversized living room, independent bathrooms x3, panoramic balcony.]

[Note: In apocalyptic survival, one shouldn't just live - one should enjoy life.]

Qin Yu looked at the description on the light screen, unable to suppress the wild grin spreading across his face.

A presidential suite?

With independent bathrooms and climate control?

He glanced back at the crude little wooden cabin behind him.

Though it had been expanded, it was still just pieced together with wooden planks - not only drafty from all sides but with virtually zero soundproofing.

Whenever thunder rumbled outside, the entire structure would vibrate.

Privacy was out of the question.

The three of them squeezed into two rooms separated only by thin wooden boards, where even turning over in bed could be clearly heard next door.

This environment felt somewhat stifling for someone like Qin Yu, who was accustomed to being in complete control.

"Use it."

Qin Yu didn't hesitate in the slightest.

"On the second-floor platform, overlay the existing structure."

[Construction in progress...]

[Estimated time: 10 seconds]

There was no deafening roar.

Only a soft white light enveloped the entire second-floor deck.

The original wooden structure rapidly decomposed and reassembled within the white glow.

The rough lumber transformed into smooth marble and sturdy alloys.

Ten seconds later.

The white light dissipated.

A sleek silver-white structure with a distinctly futuristic aesthetic suddenly appeared on the deck.

Its streamlined form and massive one-way bulletproof glass walls made it resemble nothing less than Earth's most luxurious mansion transplanted onto the open sea - were it not for the raging storm surrounding it.

"Th-this..."

The sound of shattering plates came from behind.

Crash!

Yao Xue and Yao Qian, who had just brought breakfast upstairs, stood frozen in place at the unbelievable sight, their plates falling and breaking into pieces.

"Qin Yu..."

Yao Xue's voice trembled as she stared at the futuristic structure, too awestruck to take another step.

"Is this... our house?"

Yao Qian's reaction was even more dramatic.

She rubbed her eyes, then pinched her thigh.

"Ouch!"

"This isn't a dream!"

"This is a luxury villa!!"

She screamed with excitement, ignoring the broken plates on the floor as she dashed toward the structure like an excited child.

The automatic sensor door slid open with a soft whoosh.

Warm, dry air greeted her - courtesy of the climate control system that completely isolated them from the damp cold outside.

"WOW—!!!"

Yao Qian rushed into the living room, her eyes widening at the thick wool carpet underfoot, the massive genuine leather sofa set, and the minimalist yet clearly expensive crystal chandelier overhead.

She stood there completely dumbfounded.

"Sis! Come look! There's a TV here! No signal, but it's huge!"

"And this sofa! It's so soft!"

She threw herself onto the sofa, rolling around before burying her face in a cushion, kicking her legs in sheer delight.

Yao Xue approached more slowly.

Her high heels made crisp sounds against the marble flooring as she looked around, her eyes filled with disbelief.

This was no survival situation.

This was practically a vacation.

"Qin Yu."

She walked over to Qin Yu and looked up at the man.

"Are you... a god, or a magician?"

Qin Yu smiled slightly.

He casually wrapped an arm around her slender waist.

"I'm neither a god nor a magician."

"I'm the captain of this ship."

He pointed toward the three rooms inside.

"The largest one on the left is mine."

"You two can decide between the two rooms on the right."

"Each has its own bathroom with 24-hour hot water."

At the mention of "hot water,"

Yao Xue's cool eyes instantly lit up.

For a doctor, especially a woman with cleanliness habits,

the sticky feeling from days at sea - even when using wet towels to clean herself - had been driving her mad.

The temptation of a hot shower

was greater than any lavish meal.

"I'm picking my room!"

Yao Qian had already jumped up and rushed into the first room on the right.

"I want this one! The window faces the ocean!"

Yao Xue glanced at Qin Yu,

her gaze lingering meaningfully.

"I'm going to shower."

Just four words,

but the urgency behind them was unmistakable.

Qin Yu released her.

"Go ahead."

Watching the two sisters excitedly disappear into their respective rooms, the smile gradually faded from Qin Yu's face.

He walked over to the massive floor-to-ceiling window,

observing the increasingly violent waves outside.

Enjoyment was one thing,

but survival remained paramount.

The [Deep Sea Specter] combined with the [Deep-sea Guardian] -

one above, one below,

covering both sky and sea -

had transformed this 800-square-meter Presidential vessel into a fully fortified fortress.

Anyone who approached

would meet their end.

...

Night fell.

This might have been the darkest night since the apocalypse began.

No moon, no stars.

Only the endless thunderstorm and the roaring of the waves remained.

"Roar——!!!"

"Hiss——!!!"

Strange roars rose and fell across the sea surface.

By the flashes of lightning,

one could see the sea densely covered with dark shadows.

Some resembled giant sea snakes, some looked like fish with legs, and others were simply masses of squirming rotten flesh.

They were like sharks that had caught the scent of blood,

frantically surging toward the massive raft.

"Boom! Boom! Boom!"

Some of the faster ones had already crashed against the alloy armor on the ship's exterior,

emitting dull, heavy thuds.

If it were the old small raft, such impacts would have been heart-stopping.

But now,

sitting in the luxurious living room maintained at a constant 24 degrees,

those impacts sounded like someone gently knocking on the door.

"Brother Qin Yu... outside..."

Yao Qian, wearing a pink silk pajama set and hugging a pillow, was curled up in the corner of the sofa.

Her small face was pale.

Although this place was luxurious and safe,

the instinctual fear still made her tremble.

Yao Xue sat beside her, holding a glass of red wine.

Though she appeared calm on the surface, her fingers gripping the wine glass were slightly white.

"Don't be afraid."

Qin Yu sat in a single sofa chair, casually flipping through a magazine he had found from somewhere.

His expression was composed.

"Just a bunch of delivery guys."

As soon as he finished speaking,

"Zzz—Boom!!!"

A blinding blue light suddenly flashed from the ship's bow outside.

The Deep-sea Guardian had opened fire.

Immediately after,

"Thump! Thump! Thump!"

A series of dense, muffled sounds came from beneath the ship.

That was the Deep Sea Specter firing its high-pressure water cannons.

Even through the thick flooring and the seawater, one could sense the sharp, lethal intent.

Qin Yu set down the magazine.

He activated the [Sky Eye],

instantly displaying the brutal scene outside.

This wasn't a battle.

It was a slaughter.

Each shot from the S-class Deep-sea Guardian's Plasma Cannon wiped out large swathes of monsters.

Those thick-skinned mutated sea beasts were as fragile as paper before the blue light,

instantly incinerated to ashes.

The situation underwater was even more terrifying.

Countless high-pressure water cannons wove a net of death.

Any monster daring to approach the ship's bottom in an attempt to breach it

was instantly blasted to pieces.

The seawater had already turned ink-black.

That was the blood of the monsters.

"This..."

Yao Xue stared at the screen,

her red lips slightly parted.

She knew Qin Yu was strong,

but she hadn't expected his trump card to be this formidable.

With this level of firepower,

even a regular army would have to think twice, wouldn't they?

"This is the power of technology."

Qin Yu said indifferently.

"Alright."

After watching for ten minutes,

Qin Yu yawned.

"Attacks of this level can't even scratch our paint."

He turned off the screen,

shutting out the bloody carnage outside,

leaving only the soft lighting in the living room.

"Everyone, go back to sleep."

"When the sun rises tomorrow, the Dark Tide Period will be over."

"We need to conserve our energy."

Qin Yu stood up.

Such a one-sided slaughter wasn't interesting to watch for long.

"Oh... okay."

Though Yao Qian was still a bit scared, seeing Qin Yu so calm eased her mind somewhat.

Moreover, this large house truly gave her a great sense of security.

As long as they didn't go outside, this place was heaven.

"Sis, I'm going back to my room then."

Yao Qian hugged her pillow, glancing back every few steps before disappearing into her room.

Yao Xue set down her wine glass.

She cast a deep glance at Qin Yu.

Her eyes...

Held fire.

"Goodnight," she said softly.

"Goodnight."

Qin Yu nodded and turned to enter the master bedroom.

The door closed.

The lock clicked.

The world instantly fell silent.

The premium soundproofing material truly lived up to its reputation - the thunder and artillery fire outside were almost inaudible here.

Qin Yu lay on the two-meter-wide bed.

The mattress was perfectly soft.

The quilt carried the scent of sunshine.

Comfortable.

His nerves, tense for days, finally relaxed completely at this moment.

With the Deep-sea Guardian present.

With the Deep Sea Specter present.

This ship was an absolute forbidden zone.

Before long.

Qin Yu's breathing became steady and rhythmic.

He had fallen asleep.

...

Late at night.

The storm outside seemed to have eased somewhat, but the waves remained turbulent.

Click.

The master bedroom's lock made a soft sound.

Someone outside had opened it with a spare key.

Qin Yu was extremely vigilant.

He woke instantly at the sound of the lock.

His hand instinctively reached for the machete under his pillow.

But then.

A familiar delicate fragrance drifted into his nostrils.

It was Yao Xue's scent.

Like plum blossoms after snowfall.

Cold, yet carrying a fatal allure.

Qin Yu's hand relaxed.

He curved his lips in the darkness.

The door opened a crack.

A graceful figure slipped inside.

Then quickly closed and locked the door.

The movements were practiced to a heartbreaking degree.

No lights were turned on.

Yao Xue made her way to the bedside by the occasional flashes of lightning outside.

She wore a black lace camisole dress obtained from a previous treasure chest.

Compared to her previous silk pajamas, this one was bolder.

Glowing white.

"Had enough sleep?"

Qin Yu's voice sounded in the darkness.

Carrying a hint of sleep-induced huskiness.

Yao Xue didn't speak.

She directly lifted the quilt.

And slipped into that warm embrace.

"Sleeping alone... is cold."

Yao Xue's voice was very low.

Carrying a slight tremble.

It was an excuse.

The presidential suite's climate control system was excellent - how could it possibly be cold?

Qin Yu didn't expose her.

He turned over and pressed this ice-cold beauty beneath him.

"Cold?"

"Then let me warm you up."

Yao Xue let out a soft moan.

Her arms tightly encircled Qin Yu's neck.

Actively offering her red lips.

This time.

Was even wilder than last night.

Perhaps because this was the apocalypse.

Perhaps because they had private rooms.

Yao Xue completely let go.

The passion suppressed for thirty years erupted like a volcano.

In the room.

Spring scenery knew no bounds.

The expensive bed emitted sounds of being overwhelmed.

...

Meanwhile.

In the adjacent guest room.

Yao Qian hugged her pillow, curled up on the bed.

Eyes wide open.

Unable to sleep at all.

Although the room had good soundproofing, the psychological fear couldn't be eliminated.

Especially just now.

A massive thunderclap had exploded right overhead.

Shaking the entire room.

"Ah!"

Yao Qian buried her head under the quilt in fright.

Tears nearly welling up.

Too terrifying.

She simply didn't dare sleep alone.

"Find sister..."

"I want to sleep with sister."

Yao Qian threw off the quilt, jumped out of bed barefoot.

Hugging her large pillow.

Opened the door.

The living room retained only a dim wall lamp.

Empty.

Somewhat frightening.

Yao Qian jogged to Yao Xue's door.

"Sis?"

She knocked gently.

No response.

"Sis? Are you asleep? I'm scared..."

She turned the doorknob.

It was unlocked.

The door opened.

By the dim light from the living room, she saw the empty bed.

The quilt was neatly folded.

No one?

Yao Qian froze.

Where did her sister go?

Did she go to the bathroom?

But every room had its own bathroom.

Suddenly.

A flash of lightning split the night sky.

Illuminating the living room in a ghastly white light.

Yao Qian instinctively looked toward the master bedroom.

There.

The door was tightly shut.

But.

In the silent living room.

Even with soundproofing.

If one got close enough.

One could still hear faint noises.

As if possessed, Yao Qian walked over.

She didn't know why she was going.

Maybe curiosity.

Maybe some kind of intuition.

She reached the master bedroom door.

Held her breath.

Pressed her ear against the cold wooden panel.

In that instant.

Her pupils dilated sharply.

Her expression shifted from confusion to shock, then finally to deep crimson.

Those sounds...

Though she was a homebody who'd never been in a relationship.

Haven't you seen a pig run even if you haven't eaten pork?

Those suppressed gasps.

Those blush-inducing, heart-pounding impacts.

And her sister's... those seductive moans she would never normally hear.

"Ah... Qin Yu... slower..."

Yao Qian stood as if struck by lightning.

Completely paralyzed.

The pillow in her hands thudded to the floor.

Sis...

Sis was actually in Qin Yu's room?

And... they were...

Yao Qian's mind was in chaos.

That usually cold, serious sister who wouldn't even touch a male colleague's hand.

That sister who always taught her to be reserved and chaste.

Now.

Just behind this door, making such shameful sounds?

And from the sound of it...

She seemed... to be enjoying it?

Yao Qian felt her worldview collapsing.

A complicated, indescribable feeling surged in her heart.

Was it shock?

Embarrassment?

Or... a hint of sour jealousy?

The wind and rain outside seemed to grow stronger.

But Yao Qian could no longer hear them.

Her mind was filled with the intense scenes happening behind the door.

She wanted to leave.

To escape back to her room.

But her legs felt like they were filled with lead, completely unable to move.

Like a guilty thief.

She crouched by the door.

Hugging her knees.

Listening to the noises from inside.

Her face hot enough to fry an egg.

"Qin Yu..."

Yao Qian bit her lip.

A trace of confusion flashed in her eyes.

So.

This was what true survival in the apocalypse meant?

As long as you were strong enough.

You could have everything.

That night.

The battle lasted a long time.

And Yao Qian outside the door.

In that stormy night.

Stayed awake until dawn.

And seemed...

To understand some things she hadn't comprehended before.
