Chapter 66 - The Heir awakens

Night slowly settled over the training camp.

Lights ignited across the valley as the sky darkened, illuminating the stone paths and towering training halls. From the distance came faint sounds of metal striking metal, bursts of elemental energy, and the low hum of gravity chambers already in use.

Some students had wasted no time starting their training.

Inside Villa C-17, however, things were far quieter.

Zane had migrated from the couch to the kitchen area, rummaging through the cabinets like a starving raccoon.

"…Please tell me rich villas come with free food."

Lily leaned against the doorway with her arms folded.

"They don't."

Zane sighed dramatically.

"Capitalism strikes again."

Zael sat cross-legged in the meditation room again, eyes closed as Qi circulated slowly through his meridians.

His breathing was calm.

Steady.

Controlled.

Yet his mind kept returning to the same moment.

That state.

That brief connection where the entire forest had felt alive around him.

Where every movement had flowed perfectly with the world itself.

He tried to recreate it.

Focus.

Breath.

Awareness.

Qi flowed smoothly.

But the world remained… normal.

After several minutes he opened his eyes.

Still nothing.

Zael frowned slightly.

"If it isn't a skill…"

Then what was it?

Outside the meditation room—

Zane had finally accepted reality and collapsed back onto the couch.

"Alright."

He pointed lazily toward the ceiling.

"Tomorrow we hunt monsters."

"Earn points."

"Find training rooms."

"Maybe beat up Karl again."

Lily corrected him calmly.

"You are not beating up Karl."

Zane shrugged.

"Boss will."

Zael walked back into the living room.

"We'll start with the task hut."

Lily nodded.

"That's the most efficient path."

Tasks meant guaranteed points.

Points meant training.

Training meant growth.

The system the camp used was brutal—but simple.

Zane stretched again.

"Well."

"Good night then."

He stood up and wandered toward one of the bedrooms.

"Wake me up when we're rich."

Within minutes the villa fell quiet.

Lights dimmed.

Doors closed.

Outside—

The camp continued humming with activity.

Some students trained late into the night.

Some planned strategies.

Some simply collapsed from exhaustion after the entrance trial.

But in the distance—

Beyond the outer walls of the camp—

The wilderness stirred.

Deep inside the mountains.

Something moved.

Massive.

Ancient.

Watching the camp lights from afar.

---

Inside the observation vessel floating above the valley—

A meeting was underway.

Several instructors stood around a glowing display screen.

Data scrolled rapidly across it.

Student performance.

Combat recordings.

Energy fluctuations detected during the entrance trial.

One of the analysts zoomed in on a specific recording.

Zael.

Specifically—

The moment during his fight with Karl.

The clip played again.

And again.

And again.

Every instructor in the room watched silently.

Because the footage showed something strange.

Not the sword strike.

Not the movement.

But the environment.

Leaves changing direction.

Wind patterns shifting.

Ambient energy converging around Zael.

The lead examiner spoke quietly.

"…Pause."

The video froze.

The air itself appeared to be flowing toward Zael.

Like the forest was breathing with him.

One instructor frowned.

"That's not a system skill."

Another shook his head slowly.

"…No."

The lead examiner leaned forward slightly.

His eyes narrowed.

"Search the ancient classification archives."

An analyst blinked.

"…Sir?"

The examiner didn't look away from the frozen screen.

"Because if I'm right…"

His voice lowered.

"…that boy might not be an awakened following the modern system."

The room grew completely silent.

Back inside the camp—

Most students had already fallen asleep.

Inside Villa C-17, Zael was the last one awake.

He stood in the courtyard quietly, looking up at the night sky.

The stars above the mountains were unusually clear.

For a brief moment—

The wind brushed past him.

Soft.

Familiar.

And for the faintest instant—

Zael felt it again.

That connection.

The world breathing around him.

His eyes sharpened.

But just as he tried to grasp the feeling—

A sudden alarm echoed across the entire camp.

A deep mechanical siren.

Students jolted awake across the valley.

Lights flashed red across the camp walls.

A massive voice echoed through the loudspeakers.

"Emergency notice."

"Emergency notice."

"Outer perimeter breach detected."

Zael's eyes narrowed.

Lily's door flew open instantly.

Zane stumbled out half asleep.

"…What now?"

Outside the walls—

The ground trembled faintly.

Something enormous had just entered the wilderness surrounding the camp.

And then—

The loudspeaker delivered the final message.

"Unidentified S-Class Beast detected near the training zone."

"All students remain inside the camp walls."

Silence fell over the valley.

Because everyone understood what that meant.

An S-Class beast wasn't supposed to be anywhere near a training camp.

And far beyond the walls—

Hidden in the darkness of the mountains—

Two massive glowing eyes slowly opened.

Watching the camp.

Watching the students.

Watching… Zael.

———

The alarm continued to echo across the entire camp.

Red lights flashed along the defensive towers built into the valley walls. The peaceful training grounds from earlier had transformed into something far more tense.

Students poured out of their dorms and villas.

Confused.

Curious.

Some frightened.

From the courtyard of Villa C-17, Zael looked toward the distant mountains.

The ground trembled again.

Very faint.

But unmistakable.

Zane rubbed his eyes, still half asleep.

"…Tell me that's just someone dropping a mountain."

Lily was already fully alert.

Her spatial senses had expanded outward.

"I can feel it."

Her voice was quiet.

"But barely."

Zane blinked.

"…Feel what?"

She turned toward the mountains.

"Pressure."

A deep mechanical voice echoed across the camp again.

"Attention all students."

"Remain inside the camp walls."

"Do not attempt to approach the outer perimeter."

"Camp security teams are responding."

Across the valley, instructors had already mobilized.

Armed awakeners rushed toward the watchtowers.

Energy barriers along the walls began to activate, forming faint translucent shields.

From the observation vessel floating high above—

The instructors were watching carefully.

One of them spoke.

"Thermal scan confirms movement."

A large display showed the mountain range outside the camp.

At first it looked like nothing.

Just forests and cliffs under the night sky.

Then—

Something moved.

A section of forest shifted.

Not from wind.

But from something walking through it.

The trees looked like grass beneath its movement.

One of the analysts swallowed.

"…That size isn't normal."

Another zoomed the camera further.

But the creature remained mostly hidden in darkness.

The lead examiner spoke calmly.

"Is it approaching the camp?"

The analyst checked the trajectory.

"…No."

"It's circling the outer wilderness."

Another instructor frowned.

"Then why trigger the perimeter alarms?"

Silence followed.

Because no one had an answer.

---

Back inside the camp—

Students had gathered near the central plaza, looking toward the mountains.

Karl stood among them, arms folded.

His eyes glowed faintly as he activated one of his class senses.

"…That thing is big."

Behind him, one of his teammates whispered nervously.

"You think it'll attack the camp?"

Karl shook his head slowly.

"No."

Then he grinned slightly.

"But if it does…"

"That would be fun."

---

Inside her villa—

Aurelia stood by the window again.

Her silver eyes were focused on the mountains.

Her talent had reacted the moment the alarm sounded.

But not toward the beast.

Toward something else.

Toward someone.

Slowly—

Her gaze shifted across the courtyard.

Landing on Villa C-17.

More specifically—

On Zael standing in the courtyard.

Aurelia's expression slowly changed.

Because her talent was reacting again.

Strongly.

Stronger than before.

Almost like something was… awakening.

She whispered softly.

"…Why now?"

---

Outside the walls—

Deep in the wilderness—

The massive creature finally stepped into the moonlight.

Its body towered above the forest canopy.

Dark scales covered its enormous frame, reflecting the faint silver glow of the moon.

Each step shook the ground.

Its long tail crushed trees behind it.

A true S-Class Beast.

But strangely—

It did not move toward the camp.

Instead—

It stopped.

Completely.

Its massive head slowly turned.

Looking directly toward the valley.

Toward the training camp.

Toward the villas.

Toward Zael.

The creature's eyes glowed faintly.

Ancient.

Intelligent.

Almost… recognizing something.

Back in the courtyard—

Zael suddenly felt the wind shift.

A powerful pulse of ambient energy surged through the air.

Stronger than anything he had felt before.

The world seemed to pause.

Leaves stopped moving.

The night grew strangely quiet.

And for the first time since earlier—

That mysterious state returned.

The world sharpened.

The wind spoke.

The earth pulsed.

The mountains breathed.

Zael's eyes widened slightly.

Because this time—

The feeling wasn't fading.

Instead—

It was growing stronger.

Behind him, Lily suddenly gasped.

Zane frowned.

"…What's wrong?"

Lily's eyes were locked on Zael.

"The energy…"

"It's gathering around him."

High above—

Inside the observation vessel—

Every monitoring device suddenly spiked.

One analyst shouted.

"Massive ambient energy fluctuation detected!"

The lead examiner stood up instantly.

"Where?!"

The analyst pointed to the screen.

"…Inside the camp."

Directly—

On Zael.

Outside the walls—

The massive S-Class beast slowly lowered its head.

Almost like a bow.

Deep within the mountains—

Something ancient had recognized something else.

And the energy gathering around Zael was no longer subtle.

It was beginning to form a visible vortex of Qi around him.

Zane stared.

"…Boss?"

Zael didn't answer.

Because in that moment—

A voice echoed faintly in his mind.

Ancient.

Calm.

Endless.

The whisper of the Dao itself.

And the words it spoke made his heart stop.

"The Heir has finally awakened."
