Chapter 225 - *Chapter 224: Gargoyles Slain, Lions Flee*

Riverlands, Harrenhal

On the battlefield near the walls of Harrenhal, Jon's Targaryen army was engaged in a fierce battle with the summoned gargoyles.

Although Jon's light infantry phalanx had entered the area early, they were unable to easily break through the defensive line.

Here, these troublesome gargoyles were like mobile fortresses, making it impossible for Jon's soldiers to use conventional tactics to stop them.

These gargoyles were no ordinary creatures; they were beings summoned by magical power. Although their movements were somewhat clumsy, once they attacked, the destructive power they produced was far beyond what a normal person could withstand.

Their bodies were incredibly hard, as if carved from the toughest granite.

Under these circumstances, it took several soldiers attacking together to cause them any significant damage.

Facing such enemies, Jon's soldiers felt an unprecedented amount of pressure.

They had originally thought that with their training and equipment, they could easily break through the defense here; however, reality was cruel.

They discovered that the strength of these gargoyles far exceeded their imagination. To the gargoyles, their attacks were like tickling, unable to cause any substantial damage.

However, as the battle continued, the soldiers discovered the weaknesses of these terrifying monsters.

Although these gargoyles possessed formidable defense and attack power, their movement speed and the defense at their joints were very weak.

As long as the soldiers withstood the first round of attacks, they could sever the limbs of these creatures in the subsequent confrontation.

The troops Jon led this time were elites drawn from the Vale and the North, provided with the best possible supplies and equipment.

Under normal circumstances, these soldiers operated in groups of seven: three shield-bearers in the front, three spearmen behind them, and a Northern warrior wielding a battle-axe as the anchor.

The shield-bearers would block the gargoyle's attacks, then the spearmen would pin down the gargoyle's limbs, and finally, the soldier wielding the battle-axe would deliver the killing blow.

These soldiers were special operations teams under Jon, specifically trained to deal with these unique unit types.

With these soldiers providing a distraction, the common levies and noble soldiers led by Ramsay finally had the opportunity to charge into the city.

By this time, Harrenhal had been completely breached and possessed not a shred of resistance. Ramsay and his men only needed to eliminate the Lannister main force.

Just then, Ramsay, who had been charging at the front, felt a warning sign in his heart, and he quickly dodged to the side.

"Swoosh, swoosh…"

"Enemy attack…"

At that moment, a series of whistling sounds came as arrows were shot directly from the tower in front of Ramsay.

After dodging into a ruin by the side of the road, Ramsay glanced at the unlucky souls who had been hit.

The personal guards running alongside Ramsay had been shot through like hedgehogs. Ramsay, who was skilled in archery, knew very well what this meant.

These arrows were very powerful and must have been fired from heavy crossbows. After signaling to several shield-bearers hiding behind him, Ramsay prepared to counter-attack.

"Charge!"

The soldiers holding oak shields rushed out of the ruins upon receiving the command. As soon as they emerged, a dense series of arrow impacts rang out against their shields.

"What!?"

Judging by the density and force of the arrows, Ramsay was momentarily stunned. The power and frequency of these archers were not at all like those of a crossbow mechanism; unless the enemies had help, it would be impossible for them to fire a second volley so quickly.

"Could it be those special magical creatures?"

Reaching this conclusion in his mind, Ramsay gripped the magic book in his hand. It was clear that those attacking them were not ordinary soldiers and were very likely magical creatures with special abilities.

After realizing the key to the situation, Ramsay quickly summoned a messenger to gather all the System-class professionals in the unit.

In a short while, Ramsay found about thirty professionals. After selecting a few Heavy Armored Knights from among them, Ramsay ordered them to charge forward.

Subsequently, Ramsay used the System-class soldiers as an assault team and began moving toward the unnamed castle tower.

Although the towers of Harrenhal had mostly become dilapidated, many defensive and residential facilities remained fully intact in the towers that were still habitable.

The unnamed tower Ramsay and his men were attacking seemed to be the main tower among the five towers of Harrenhal. Since the castle had been destroyed by Jon's ancestor shortly after it was built, the names of these five towers had not been passed down.

The families that later owned Harrenhal gave them names like the Tower of Dread, the Widow's Tower, the Wailing Tower, the Ghost Tower, and the Kingspyre Tower based on the eerie legends surrounding them.

The Kingspyre Tower had only one entrance. Whether due to war or some other reason, the main gate had long been damaged, yet the defenses within the tower remained sound.

From behind the soldiers, Ramsay watched the arrows flying from the arrow slits and became quite interested in the magical creatures shooting from above.

Under the protection of the Heavy Armored Knights, the arrows from above were blocked by their sturdy shields.

Ramsay knew these warriors were a special class that Jon favored, usually reserved for use within light infantry phalanxes.

These professionals scattered among the ordinary troops were those with lower aptitude. Even so, Ramsay felt they were very powerful. If these professional soldiers were to form entire armies in the future, Ramsay doubted any army on the continent could withstand them.

Crack…

"Charge!"

As the Heavy Armored Knights continued their breakthrough, Ramsay finally led his troops through the gate of the Kingspyre Tower. After confirming the enemy's position based on his memory, Ramsay split his soldiers into two paths and sent them out.

"Huh! What are these?"

"Are these skeletons?"

"How can they move?"

"Was it them attacking us just now?"

…When the soldiers reached the second floor, they were stunned by the scene before them. Looking at those terrifying beings that were nothing but skeletal frames, the soldiers were visibly dazed.

"Kill them! Do not be afraid! Do not forget that Lord Aegon is watching us. These things are just skeletal frames!"

Ramsay was also startled upon seeing their identity. Noticing the thick scent of blood on the ground, he seemed to understand that these things must have been summoned using some kind of evil magic.

"Forward!"

After saying these final words, Ramsay brandished his battle-axe and charged.

Swish, swish, swish…

The Skeleton Soldiers would not just stand by; they had been given orders to attack living things. From the moment Ramsay and his men came up, these creatures had been attacking.

Bang, bang, bang…

After swinging his battle-axe to block a wave of arrows, Ramsay rushed toward those loathsome skeletal warriors.

Though their attack power was formidable, they were nothing before Ramsay's battle-axe. When hit by Ramsay's axe, these skeletal warriors fell apart like building blocks, scattering across the floor.

"Hurrah!"

Seeing Ramsay's great display of power, the soldiers were no longer afraid of these monsters. They let out a roar and swarmed forward, hacking all the skeletons to pieces.

After quickly clearing the Kingspyre Tower, Ramsay found no trace of Tywin Lannister; there were only countless Skeleton Soldiers and zombies.

Judging by the equipment on these soldiers, they must have been House Lannister soldiers when they were alive. For some unknown purpose, they had been abandoned here and turned into these terrifying monsters.

"This guy is truly ruthless!"

Upon realizing a certain possibility, Ramsay sighed repeatedly. Although he was cruel and bloodthirsty, he could not be so sinister when facing his own men.

Ramsay did not have noble blood and was different from these wealthy and powerful nobles. While he was extremely cruel to his enemies, he was very generous toward his own soldiers.

While Ramsay was leading his troops to clear the five towers of Harrenhal, Jon had completely eliminated the gargoyles that had come out to block the way.

In order to study this kind of magical creature, which even he had not yet mastered, Jon took action himself and personally captured a gargoyle.

These gargoyles were different from those in games; they looked more like magic items or magic constructs. They were nothing like the gargoyles in games that were just like ordinary biological creatures.

"Lord Aegon, Lord Robb's messenger has arrived. He has urgent military intelligence to report."

Jon, who was dissecting the gargoyle in his king's tent, suddenly heard the report from his subordinate.

After receiving Jon's permission, a somewhat disheveled Riverlands knight rushed into Jon's king's tent. After bowing to Jon, the knight hurriedly spoke:

"Honorable Your Majesty Aegon, after our troops completed their raid, they were ambushed by Wights. Those living dead are currently besieging our forces!"

"What!?"
