Chapter 121: The Dragonlord Meeting
The Stepstones, Tyrosh, Purple Palace
"Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Aegon Targaryen, the current Lord of Tyrosh!"
Jon's words were very calm; he didn't seem intimidated by the other party's powerful presence.
"Targaryen!? Now that's interesting. However, the bloodline power within you is truly formidable, actually managing to suppress the influence brought by the dragon blood. This bloodline has great research value!"
After sensing the incredibly powerful force within Jon, Jeyne Belaerys acknowledged this being who, like her, shared the blood of the dragonlords.
Seeing that the other party no longer harbored ill intent, Jon dismissed the slightly blushing Sarene and the indifferent Nymeria Sand. Although Jon had expected this woman to awaken within a few days, he never imagined she would be the legendary Jeyne Belaerys.
"Please, sit! There are many things I wish to learn from you!"
Walking to a small table nearby, Jon gestured toward her.
"Just call me Jeyne. I also have many things I want to learn from you, especially regarding what happened after the fall of Valyria!"
Dressed in a sheer gauze robe, Jeyne sat naturally before Jon. Her pale body shimmered faintly beneath the fabric, causing Jon to avert his gaze slightly.
"Ahem... Are you truly Jeyne Belaerys? From what I know, you should have died about a hundred years before the Doom. Why do you look..."
The current Jeyne looked even younger than Sarene and the others. Had she not introduced herself as such, Jon would never have associated her with a dragonlord from the Valyrian era.
"This current body of mine is the result of the 'Immortality Project.' When the project was first initiated, I never expected that I would one day rely on it to be 'resurrected'!"
Jeyne did not hide anything, instead explaining openly.
According to her, dragonlords also possessed an ability similar to that of skinchangers, and it was precisely because of this power—
Jeyne and the Blood Mages of her family conceived a bold idea: to use a slave's body to gestate a being with her own bloodline, and then remove the soul from that body.
After a series of complex magical "artificial gestation" processes, Jeyne obtained a body that belonged to her. At that time, because her original body was still strong, she had never intended to use it.
"Then how did you... well, how..."
With her standing perfectly fine before him, Jon found it difficult to ask how she had died.
"I died on the continent of Sothoryos. Though that cursed land was full of wonders, I still didn't make it. My dragon died there with me as well."
As Jeyne spoke, there was a trace of sorrow in her voice. Her life had been one of constant exploration. She had been only forty, yet she had not discovered the legendary Boiling Sea or the River of Steam.
"So, what are your plans now?"
"Me?"
Noticing her mood, Jon quickly changed the topic.
"I want to rebuild my family. This world is vast; as long as my bloodline remains, House Belaerys can endure. It might even be possible to rebuild Valyria."
As Jeyne spoke, her gaze remained fixed on Jon. She was still unclear about the current state of the world.
However, she was curious why House Targaryen had come to dominate lands in the west.
The dragonlords of Valyria had once considered conquering Westeros, but that land seemed to harbor something that even they found troubling.
Those who explored it only established an outpost on an island in the Narrow Sea before returning.
"What, do you want me to stay?"
After stating her plans, Jeyne looked at Jon with interest. She felt some goodwill toward him for awakening her from the ruins.
"The world is at a critical turning point. Although I have made preparations, my strength alone is not enough. I need your help."
"Is this why House Targaryen took control of lands in the west?"
Sensing Jon's seriousness, Jeyne set aside her earlier playfulness.
"In the far north of Westeros..."
Jon described the Land of Always Winter—the Others, the wights, and the unknown force behind them.
He also mentioned how Aegon the Conqueror had united Westeros in preparation for this threat.
"I hope you will join me. Whether for your house or yourself—if we do not unite, we may all fall to an endless army of the dead."
"No wonder the Council abandoned plans to conquer Westeros back then. It seems they foresaw what lies in the far north."
Seeing Jon's confusion, Jeyne elaborated.
"So Dragonstone was merely an outpost. I had thought Valyria simply lacked time to expand westward."
"In ancient times, our people did go to Westeros. However, for unknown reasons, those settlements were abandoned. There were rumors of great losses, and after that, no more expeditions were sent."
As she spoke, she naturally connected that history to Jon's warnings.
"It was only after the Rhoynar wars that someone proposed exploring Westeros again—but as you know, they only built a fortress."
"Then do you know how to create Valyrian steel and dragon eggs?"
After listening, Jon asked the question he had long been waiting to ask.
"The Targaryens do not know? That is not surprising. They were considered minor lords in Valyria; such secrets were not always shared."
Jeyne spoke with mild surprise.
"Valyrian steel is forged using dragonglass, dragonfire, dragonlord blood, and special volcanic metal. The exact method... I do not recall. Those matters were handled by Blood Mages."
She then explained dragon eggs.
"Dragons are magical beings and do not reproduce like ordinary creatures. To produce an egg, a dragon rider must enter the dragon's body..."
"Isn't that a forbidden form of skinchanging?"
Jon interrupted instinctively.
Jeyne, hearing the term, asked for clarification. After Jon explained, she nodded.
"Yes, it was considered taboo among many of us. There were also records of malformed creatures being born from such practices."
Understanding this, Jon finally grasped why dragons declined after the Dance of the Dragons.
"It was due to weakening bloodlines..."
His thoughts immediately shifted toward restoring dragons.
Jon shared his theories and ideas. Hearing them, Jeyne showed some interest.
"Many Blood Mages attempted such experiments. When I established High Sothoryos, I discovered some conducting similar research—but they all failed."
Jeyne did not seem overly concerned with dragons themselves.
Recalling a legend, Jon suddenly asked:
"Is it true that a dragon rider can only bond with one dragon?"
"That depends on your strength. I once saw a dragonlord control five dragons. Is that belief something passed down in your house?"
Jeyne found the question somewhat strange, but understandable given the Targaryens' diminished legacy.
If a family's knowledge is lost, it inevitably affects its future.
