Chapter 96 - The Five Elders

At the elevated platform—

Saint Jaygarcia Saturn, having regenerated once more, hovered in midair. His expression was grave as he stared at the figure on the ground not far away—Rocks D. Xebec.

His face darkened. His heartbeat quickened.

Looking at the man laughing wildly in the distance, Saturn felt a chill run from head to toe.

That madman.

That monster.

The overwhelming aura of evil pressing toward him—

So the rumor was true.

Among the three types of Devil Fruits, Paramecia awakenings were rare but possible. Zoan awakenings were comparatively easier.

But Logia awakenings?

That was said to be nearly impossible.

In all the documented records of the World Government, there had never been a single confirmed case.

Only the oldest texts carried vague legends…

It was said that when a Logia user awakened, they became one with nature itself—grasping its essence from the depths of their soul and fusing with it completely.

But "nature" had many facets.

Fire could bring hope—or authority.

Wind could destroy—or fill sails.

Ice could embody mercilessness—or purity.

Everything depended on the user's own understanding.

As for what a Logia awakening actually looked like?

Even the World Government didn't know.

They had never seen such a being.

At one point, they had even concluded that Logia awakenings simply did not exist.

That was why Saturn had chosen a Mythical Zoan instead. With the Government's resources, obtaining a Logia would not have been difficult.

But today—

He realized how wrong he had been.

Terribly wrong.

Before him stood Rocks D. Xebec—the most vicious criminal in history, a pirate overlord acknowledged even by the World Government. With a bounty of 4,988,000,000 Berries, he possessed the most malevolent power in the world.

And he had awakened it.

Only now did Saturn truly witness the terror of a Logia awakening.

With a single move—"Black Hole"—Rocks had forced even him into disarray.

This so-called "celebration" was already a failure. Even the Celestial Dragons would suffer severe losses. The treasure had been deliberately left untouched by Rocks—claimed as spoils of war. Saturn didn't even dare approach it.

The situation had escalated beyond what even a member of the Five Elders could bear responsibility for—

Unless Rocks was slain here and now.

"Gahahahaha! What's wrong, Saturn? Flying up there must be tiring. Why not come down and rest?"

Rocks looked up, mockery written across his face.

Saturn did not respond.

To be precise—

He didn't believe a single syllable that came out of Rocks' mouth.

Who would trust the words of a true pirate?

Rocks was selfish, cruel, and tyrannical.

He embodied piracy itself—worshiping power, coveting treasure.

He was darkness incarnate.

And he would plunge the seas into darkness.

For a fleeting moment, Saturn found himself entertaining a bitter thought—

Compared to letting such a tyrant rule the world, perhaps the suffering of commoners under Celestial Dragon rule could be considered… mercy?

"I know reinforcements are coming for you. The Marines should be arriving soon, right? Got anything else interesting? Show me. Entertain me."

Saturn's Observation Haki blanketed the entire island.

His heart sank further.

Rocks' control and mastery over his Devil Fruit were beyond monstrous. The madman was using his awakened ability to slaughter any enemies outside his faction with terrifying efficiency—

Yet somehow, he was deliberately sparing most members of the Rocks Pirates.

This level of control…

If not unprecedented, it was certainly beyond anything seen before.

In Saturn's eyes, perhaps only the sovereign seated upon the Empty Throne could surpass Rocks.

And if this incident reached that figure's attention—

All five of them would be punished.

As for Saturn—

Death was a very real possibility.

He could not gamble.

He dared not gamble.

"…Very well. As you wish."

A flash of fury crossed Saturn's eyes.

When had he ever been forced into such a humiliating position?

But there was no other choice.

He stepped forward in midair.

Beneath his feet, a massive, mysterious black pentagram magic circle materialized.

Then—

It split into five.

Four additional circles appeared beside him.

"Hm? Has the World Government's technology advanced this far? Interesting."

Rocks blinked, studying the patterns curiously.

Before he could examine them closely—

Four sinister auras descended.

Along with them came four elderly figures—each radiating overwhelming authority.

A bald elder clad in white robes, a katana at his waist, exuding oppressive presence—

Saint Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro, Warrior God of Finance.

A blond elder in a crimson suit, hands in his pockets, cold eyes that seemed to pierce through everything—

Saint Shepherd Ju Peter, Warrior God of Agriculture.

A balding elder in a dark green suit with a drooping mustache, hailed as the greatest mind of the World Government—

Saint Topman Warcury, Warrior God of Justice.

An elder in a deep blue suit with long white hair and beard—

Saint Marcus Mars, Warrior God of the Environment.

And—

Wearing a black hat, dressed in a black suit, cane in hand—

Saint Jaygarcia Saturn, Warrior God of Science and Defense.

Together—

They were the highest authority of the World Government.

The Five Elders.

The so-called—

Gods above gods.
