Chapter 30 - Chapter 30:

Deino looked at the Squirtle in front of him.

He had fought Kirlia every day, and finally, he was able to keep up with that trickster of a fairy thanks to his recent addition to the moveset.

Training...he did not need any of it.

Fight. Fight. Fight.

That was all he knew of and all he needed.

So, when the psychic fairy started teleporting all around him, and his [Dragon Breath] and [Incinerate] could not reach her fast enough, he came up with something else.

Something faster.

Lightning crackled in Deino's mouth as he immediately shot a [Thundershock] right at the Water-type.

Squirtle dodged the attack with [Aqua Jet] before shooting a [Water Gun].

Deino did not move and let the torrent of water hit him in the face before shooting a smirk at the Water-type.

"Your Water-type attacks will have no use against it. Use [Aqua Jet] to move and [Brick Break] or [Ice Wind] for damage." Gary reminded his Pokémon of the type match-ups and carefully watched as the black-haired boy gave no commands to the Deino. 'So, he cannot control that dragon?'

Gary immediately thought of a way to make good use of this.

He knew much about Deino, a pseudo-legendary Pokémon, thanks to the wealth of knowledge his grandpa had shared with him growing up.

These Pokémon were erratic and easily provoked. Once they started thrashing, they listened to no one, and there had never been a case of a Hydreigon listening completely to their trainer.s

Why?

Simply because the only thing these creatures wanted was destruction, even from a young age.

Every time they evolved, they would go berserk, so much so that 99% of the trainers who had trained a Deino died when their Zweilous evolved into a Hydreigon.

These Pokémon did not differentiate foe from friend...if they had one in the first place...when they raged.

'Drayden of Unova is the only known trainer with a barely controlled Hydreigon.' Gary recalled the fact. No other trainer had been able to put a leash around these guys. 'Even Lance, the Dragon Master, is yet to bring his Hydreigon under complete control.'

The Deino in front of him was a walking disaster waiting to happen.

Gary watched as his Squirtle charged forward with an [Aqua Jet] and then landed a [Brick Break] only for the dragon to take it head on before chomping down with a [Fire Fang].

"Fire-type moves are not effective against Squirtle."

"Dei!"

"And I thought we had a deal?"

"Deino~"

"You want to fight this one all by yourself, eh?" Daemon chuckled before nodding. "Sure, go ahead. But just a heads up, that Squirtle is really strong."

~ROAR~

Daemon clicked his tongue at the dragon, who ignored his warning and charged forward. Since Deino had decided to fight on his own, he was not going to give any more advice.

Controlling this dragon, barring exceptional circumstances, was a long task. He did not believe it could be done so fast, unless he was a shonen protagonist, which he clearly was not. So, he was going to take the long route.

Deino was strong, and he was not a young Pokémon like Charmander, who was not even two months old.

The dragon had been trained by a Dragon Master and was physically quite strong, even more than the Squirtle he was fighting at the moment. However, he clearly lacked something else.

Moveset as well as experience.

Most, if not all, of the fights Deino had fought were done by taking a head-on approach. Honestly, for a Pokémon like him, it was the best method, but...

Deino ran towards Squirtle with a [Thunder Fang], which the Water-type dodged easily with another [Aqua Jet] before launching an [Icy Wind], dealing super effective damage.

The dragon was a long-range fighter that was adept at dealing heavy damage from a distance, at least until it evolved to Hydreigon, where it could fly and gained much more mobility.

Gary, being a capable trainer, understood this and thus made his Squirtle keep its distance and launch one [Icy Wind] after another.

Even when the dragon used a [Thunder Shock], it was dodged easily, while the [Dragon Breath] or [Dragon Pulse] were too slow to catch up to the nimble turtle.

Deino was visibly getting frustrated and once again charged forward. But Gary skillfully commanded his Squirtle to move around the dragon and then finish the fight with a [Brick Break].

Daemon watched the rageful expression of Deino as he lost consciousness and then recalled him back to his Pokeball. "Let's have a conversation soon, shall we?"

With a deep breath, his eyes landed on the smug Gary and the tired Squirtle.

Despite how dominant the Water-type had been, it was clearly exhausted after using so much of its stamina and energy against Deino.

"Not going to switch?" The black-haired boy asked.

Gary shrugged. "I think we can clutch it, what do you say, partner?"

"Squirtle!"

The Water-type was pumped until Daemon grabbed the Pokeball hanging around his neck before pointing forward.

"Take charge, Alice."

The psychic fairy landed gracefully on the ground.

Am I the last one?

"That Squirtle took care of Charmander and Deino."

Oh?

Charmander, she knew, was still too weak, but Deino was strong. For this Squirtle to take them both showed how strong it was.

Does not matter.

She extended her right hand forward and shot a fireball at the Water-type.

~Boom~

It was fast, too fast for the Squirtle to dodge.

~Boom~

~Boom~

Two more followed soon after.

"Shit. Use [Bubble Beam] to overwhelm them."

Squirtle bore the fireballs before shooting a ray of water bubbles. However...

~Boom~

~Boom~

~Boom~

~Boom~

~Boom~

All of those water bubbles missed their target while a barrage of fireballs hit the Water-type from the side.

The psychic fairy had teleported to Squirtle's right and unleashed those attacks in rapid succession.

Usually, [Teleport] was a move which took a lot of focus, so much so that a Pokémon could barely use a move after. However, her proficiency with [Mystical Fire] was at such a high level that using that move in rapid succession was quite easy.

"Set up a [Rain Dance]," Gary ordered.

Daemon immediately understood the Squirtle's ability should be Rain Dish, and without him needing to say anything, Alice fired a powerful [Psybeam] to interrupt the Water-type.

"Dammit." Gary cursed before he gave the next command. "Full power [Water Gun]. Give it your all."

He knew the psychic fairy could not teleport soon after doing it once, and gave the order.

Squirtle took a deep breath gave the next attack its all.

Alice watched the torrent of water approach before her eyes started to glow purple. The stream of water broke the laws of physics and bent to the right. It followed the hands of Kirlia, who turned around with the water and sent it right into the Squirtle.

~Splash~

The Water-type attack landed back at its owner.

While the damage it did was little, what followed knocked the wind out of the turtle Pokémon.

Alice's eyes once more shone purple, and a wave of telekinetic attack assaulted Squirtle's mind as a powerful [Psychic] finally knocked it out.

"Squirtle is unable to battle; Alice is the winner. The victory of this round belongs to yours truly."

Daemon mimicked the spiky-haired boy, causing his lips to twitch before Gary grabbed another Pokeball and released his next Pokémon.

"Woof."

Growlithe, the puppy Pokémon, took the field and stood opposite Kirlia.

"I want you to chip her down." Gary furrowed his eyebrows as he realized how strong the psychic fairy was. He knew his Growlithe would not be able to win. 'Should have switched Squirtle out.'

The standard rule of three vs three was to allow one switch. However, he had been too drunk on his two wins to do that. Now, his third Pokémon was likely not fast enough to take on Kirlia.

Switching in now would only make things worse.

Why?

Because the opponent had just set up a weather move.

The psychic fairy raised her hands in the air and summoned the clouds as it started to pour. The Water-type energy in the rain immediately made the fire puppy uncomfortable and weakened its Fire-type attacks.

"Let's use speed. [Agility] and then [Bite]."

"Woof!"

Growlithe gave a happy woof before getting serious.

The very next moment, its body was covered in psychic energy as it launched itself at Kirlia.

"Test its ability with a [Mystical Fire]," Daemon commanded, and Kirlia immediately shot a fireball, which Growlithe did not bother to dodge.

Flash Fire allowed the user to take no damage from Fire-type attacks and instead increased the power of the user's own Fire-type moves.

'[Mystical Fire] cannot be used.' Daemon planned the fight as Kirlia gracefully dodged the fire puppy. Her physical training was finally bearing fruit since [Teleport] was not a reliable source of movement in battle...at least not right now.

The move took too much energy to be used, and it was hard to use a different move soon after it, unless it was [Mystical Fire], to which Growlithe was immune.

'But we don't specifically need a move to win this.'

The clearing was their arena, and he could already see Gary tunnel visioning. Moreover, the battle between Deino and Squirtle had left behind quite a few potholes from a few [Dragon Pulse] that the dragon had used.

As Kirlia dodged another speedy [Bite], Daemon finally gave a command.

"Grab the water in the hole."

Water from [Rain Dance] had gathered in one of the many holes.

Kirlia eyed the small pit formed during the battle of Deino and Squirtle. She used her psychic focus to move the water straight into Growlithe's path.

"Shit, dodge."

Growlithe pivoted on its heel and moved to the right. Right then, a colourful beam of light hit it right in the face.

"Awooo!"

Growlithe howled in pain from the mental shock from [Psybeam] before a powerful [Psychic] followed after it.

"[Flame Charge]." Gary called for a desperate move.

Growlithe, sensing its coming loss, bore through all the pain and dug its heels into the ground before shooting forward at breakneck speed.

"!"

Kirlia was surprised by the desperate attempt and barely raised a [Reflect] to block some damage as a fire-engulfed puppy slammed into her and used a weak [Bite] on her arm.

Daemon winced as he saw Kirlia get injured, but his psychic fairy bore through the pain and finished off the fire puppy with another [Psychic].

"You are good, I will give you that." Gary clicked his tongue as he eyed the black-haired boy. "I was not planning to use him against you, but you leave me no choice."

He grabbed one of the four pokeballs on his waist and sent it forward.

"Kadabra, spam [Light Screens]."

The psychic fox with long mustaches appeared on the field and immediately covered itself with numerous [Light Screens].

"What the hell?" Daemon raised an eyebrow.

Gary shrugged. "I have a Poison-type, but it will be eaten alive by the Shiny Kirlia. Moreover, these two are considered among the strongest Psychic-type Pokémon in the world. Both are in their second stage of evolution. Their battle will be legendary."

Daemon said nothing but nodded to Kirlia, who set up the same number of [Light Screens] around her before using [Life Dew].

"Hey! Healing is not allowed."

"And who made that rule?" Daemon rolled his eyes as his psychic fairy healed from the injuries left by Growlithe.

The rain had finally stopped as well.

"[Shadow Ball]."

"[Shadow Ball]."

Both Pokémon fire the same moves, and the collided before creating a blast.

"[Psybeam]."

"[Psybeam]."

"[Psychic]."

"[Psychic]."

...

..

.

"Stop copying me!" Gary growled in frustration.

"I can say the same." Daemon clicked his tongue as he thought of his next move. "[Shadow Ball] on the base of trees."

Kirlia followed her trainer's command, and since she could feel his emotions, the plan was already clear to her.

"No, you!" Gary shouted before commanding. "Don't let them do whatever they are planning. [Psybeam]."

The psychic fairy ignored the beam as its power had dropped to negligible by the screens she had set up. The little damage it did, she just bore through it.

At the same time, she had broken down three trees.

"Do it!" Daemon commanded as he swiped his hand to the right.

Kirlia closed her eyes before the air itself moved.

She had been trying to control her psychic focus for the last two weeks, and now that she could...something like this was possible... albeit it required a lot of her energy.

Gary watched as the psychic fairy raised the three trees into the air. He knew what was coming and could have asked his Kadabra to [Teleport], but that would leave him vulnerable right after using that move.

How that Kirlia could use [Mystical Fire] right after teleporting was still a mystery to him.

"Kirlia!"

The psychic fairy raised the trees as high as she could before sending them flying at the psychic fox.

"Grab them!" Gary ordered.

If Kirlia could do it, so could his Kadabra; he had faith in his Pokémon. True enough, before the three large trees could bury it, the yellow fox took control of the trees and stopped them an inch from its face.

"Let's go!" Gary pumped his fist as he commanded. "Send them back..."

~Boom~

~Boom~

~Boom~

~Boom~

~Boom~

~Boom~

~Boom~

The trees caught fire as fireball after fireball smashed into them.

While the screens reduced the power of these fireballs, they were not meant to directly target the psychic fox. Moreover, the sheer quantity of these fireballs had already overwhelmed the screens and broken them all...more had just come right after.

Gary Oak watched as his Kadabra was buried under the sea of fire from the trees that had caught fire.

"Psychic Pokémon are tricky not because of the versatility of their moves, but because of the utility of their psychic focus." Daemon educated the young Oak. "Finish it."

A large sphere of ghostly energies gathers in Kirlia's hands.

"[Teleport]."

Daemon smiled. "Got you."

The move was cancelled as Kirlia disappeared the very next moment.

~Boom~

~Boom~

~Boom~

~Boom~

~Boom~

~Boom~

~Boom~

Fireballs overwhelmed the charred Kadabra that had just escaped the massive fire.

"Kadabra is unable to battle; Kirlia is the winner. Victory belongs to the future Pokémon Master."

Gary's lips twitched at the way Daemon had declared his victory.

"Fuck you."
