Daemon looked at the holographic view of his Trainer ID and noticed the two changes.
Firstly, his height had increased by two centimetres over the span of just seven days. He knew why his body had grown a little and also felt it in the newfound strength he had noticed across his musculature.
Viridian Forest had been anything but gentle.
Between relentless training, long treks, and a desperate escape from Team Rocket, his muscles had been pushed far past comfort. But what lingered in his mind wasn't the exhaustion. It was [Heal Pulse].
Initially, he'd dismissed it as nothing more than a support move; a way for Ralts to mend injuries, nothing else. But now, he wasn't so sure.
Daemon's thoughts raced faster than the pace he was running on the treadmill. If the [Move] could accelerate recovery… if it could restore vitality beyond simple wound-healing…The implications made his pulse quicken.
He tapped the side of the new glasses he wore and then swiped to the right in the air, making a different hollowgram appear before his eyes.
These black glasses were part of the deal with Devon Corp. in the trade of Smeargle.
The lenses could shift from clear to shaded in an instant, and switch to night vision if he so desired. Even more impressive, the glasses could scan and analyze a pokeball with the same ease and precision as a Pokedex.
In truth, that was exactly what they were: a Pokédex, simply reimagined.
Daemon still didn't understand how Devon Corp. had managed it, but the engineering bordered on absurd. The frames clung to his face with perfect stability. He could sprint, tumble, even hang upside down, and the glasses wouldn't budge so much as a millimetre.
He turned his head to the side and looked at his starter running on the treadmill; the scanners immediately picked up on it and showed a holographic screen with all of her stats.

Daemon had earned a massive profit after he traded the Smeargle.
Not only had he received ₽150,000 directly into his bank account, but he also received the new pair of pokedex-glasses, a set of six Ultra Balls, and five TMs of his choice from the list the company had provided him.
He always knew that trainers who were lucky enough to trade a Smeargle always struck it rich, but he never knew to what extent. Especially for him since he no longer needed to worry about TMs for his starter, at least until Ralts evolved to a Gardevoir.
If he had to put a value on every item he received, the pokeballs would be ₽60,000, the Pokédex-Glasses a whopping ₽20,000 and the five TMs? The combined value of them all would be around ₽500,000.
All said and done, the Smeargle was traded for a little over ₽700,000 to Devon. Corp.
'This influx of money has saved me from a very big trouble.'
Daemon had decided to keep the Deino, which meant he now had to feed it as well. His contract with the Indigo League was for only one year, which meant the ₽1,000 or the ₽12,000 annual amount he would receive would have never been enough to feed the dragon-type, as well as any other Pokémon Daemon planned on catching.
But, with almost ₽165,000 in his bank account as well as the money he would make from beating gyms, as well as various events happening around the Kanto Region, his finances could easily be covered.
'I should start working towards getting a sponsor.' He thought to himself before checking the clock. It was time to hit the shower and then register for the gym battle.
Today, he and Ralts were discharged from the Pokémon Centre; Nurse Joy had guaranteed them that they were perfectly fit to resume normal activities.
"Alice, time to go." The psychic-type who was running on the treadmill along with him turned off the machine and jumped down once it stopped.
"Ra...*huff*...Ra...*huff*..."
The psychic fairy panted for breath. While she was a special attacker, Daemon had never stinged upon her physical development. After all, physical strength was a big part of dodging various moves, and the results of this training were quite clear.
The black-haired boy was sure that one would be hard pressed to find another Ralts the same age as his who was as physically fit as her. It was also thanks to this physical fitness that they had managed to win so many trainer battles.
"You alright?"
"Ra..." She raised her hand towards him, asking him to give her a moment, which caused the black-haired boy to chuckle.
Seeing how she had adapted to his training, he had decided to up the difficulty today, which the psychic type had not liked but followed nevertheless because, as much as she hated to admit, the psychic fairy had loved to enjoy the thrill of overwhelming and defeating her opponents.
If what it took to achieve her goals was physical misery, she was up for the challenge.
"Let me carry you." Knowing she disliked spending more than a necessary amount inside her pokeball, Daemon picked her up in his arms and started walking toward the room assigned to him by Nurse Joy.
"Ra, Ralts."
"Yeah, we are lucky to be injured."
The trainer and Pokémon duo laughed at their own joke since it was only thanks to them being in critical condition upon arriving in the Pokémon Centre that they were able to get a room so easily.
With the gym circuit underway, the number of trainers showing up in Pewter City was in the thousands. Which meant there were never enough rooms for everyone in the Pokémon Centre.
Trainers had to book a hotel, which was an additional expense on their already frail wallets if they were beginners. While the black-haired boy had gotten lucky with the sudden windfall, he planned not to splurge that money and be a miser if he could afford to.
"Let's dye your hair. I can see the green fading away."
"Ralts." The psychic-type agreed.
The duo soon reached their room, and once the black-haired boy was done taking a shower, followed by Ralts taking a dip in the tub, the duo stood before the washroom's mirror with green hair dye in Daemon's hands.
"Ready?"
"Ra."
Daemon looked at the blue hair of his starter and started applying the green dye.
Last year, in the month of november when he passed his trainer license exam and received a Pokémon egg of the Ralts line, what hatched out was not a normal but a shiny Pokémon.
The black-haired boy knew what having a shiny Pokémon meant...so, he had decided to dye his starter's hair until he knew their strength was good enough to ward off any unwanted attention.
Of course, the horn on her dead could not be hidden, but it was also true that Ralts was not a native of Kanto. Moreover, it was a rare enough Pokémon that the vast majority of trainers had rarely seen one.
So, the majority of the people who saw his Ralts would barely recognize that her horn was a shade of orange rather than pink. But the duo also knew it was a futile effort.
Ralts was approaching her evolution, especially after she had learnt the five TMs.
Back in Viridian City, when she had learnt the TM: Rain Dance, the psychic type had felt her strength grow ever so slightly. At that moment, she had informed her trainer, and both were equally confused. After all, they were still new to this, and there was much they had to learn.
After he had received the confirmation of trade from Nurse Joy, Daemon had decided to ask her about his doubts in respect to TMs. That was when he had finally learned why these items were so insanely expensive.
It wasn't only because they allowed a Pokémon to instantly learn a new move without any training or because they were incredibly hard to create, but also for the reason that the transfer of knowledge from one Pokémon to another required some special type of energy called Pokémon Power, or in short, PP.
This energy was drained from the original Pokémon and transferred to the one learning the move. The stronger the move in a TM, the more potent the PP gained when a Pokémon learned it.
It also explained to the black-haired boy how the trainers who were from rich families were able to progress so rapidly through the circuit very early. It was all because of the boost provided by the TMs they had dumped into their Pokémon.
Of course, just this was not enough to complete the whole gym circuit or even be strong enough to win the league, but it sure gave the trainers from rich families a massive head start over others.
'Now Alice has received a similar boost to her strength...well, not as much but still.' He had seen videos of some rich trainers dumping more than a dozen TMs on a single Pokémon. The boost his starter had was nothing in comparison. Their growth was very much natural.
The TMs had only filled gaps; much of her strength was her own hard work.
Once her training started sometime in December, up until today, the early-mid April, Ralts had gotten stronger. The training in Viridian Forest, where they constantly fought battles with trainers or wild Pokémon were even more beneficial to her growth. So much so that she was ready to evolve into her next form within a few weeks.
However, the influx of Pokémon Power from five strong moves had made it so her evolution was approaching faster than the duo had thought. And why was that a matter of worry?
Because when she evolved, all the artificial cosmetics on her body would disappear, leaving behind her true form...of a shiny Pokémon. And if that happened while they were in public?
The duo knew many people would want Daemon to trade her, or maybe some would try to outright steal her from him. Just the thought of what might happen brought a headache to the duo.
"It's alright." Sensing similar thoughts clouding her mind, the black-haired boy decided to speak. "The energy inside you still hasn't settled, which means if we train until our gym battle, you can get even stronger than you are right now. Moreover, the stronger a Pokémon is before evolution, the greater the boost in strength they gain upon evolving."
Ralts was already strong enough to contend with Pokémon who were "supposed" to be stronger than her, like those Beedrills of Team Rocket or the wild ones she fought in the forest. Moreover, she had been able to contend against Deino as well.
Once she trained a little more and evolved, her strength would skyrocket, and so would her psychic focus, which she had trained through constant meditation.
Her evolved form would have strength surpassing most of the threats, and in the meantime, if they could get the dragon-type to listen to them...their team would only grow stronger.
"Let's get something to eat, shall we?"
"Ra." The psychic type sighed as she was hungry as well.
"And I don't think you can sit on my shoulder once you evolve."
"Ralts!"
"What do you mean by why? You are already a little over two feet, and it's already hard. You will surely be four feet or something once you evolve."
"Ra Ralts."
"You are not heavy? Keep telling yourself that."
*Smack*
"Urgh! Why would you hit my mind?"
"Ra Ralts Ra Ra."
Fuck around and find out.
