Chapter 5 - A Kiss... What’s Going On?

Sude looked at me. As if understanding how I felt, she said, "I can stay with you if you want, besides, I don't like surfing anyway."

"No way, I don't want your vacation to be ruined because of me."

"No, don't think like that."

"Yes, I can stay too," Kiraz added.

"Yes, one day won't hurt, we'll pick up where we left off tomorrow."

"Girls, please don't upset me. I can stay alone. If I need anything, I'll call you. Don't worry about me."

"But..."

"Please Sude, Kiraz, and Emilia. Enjoy your vacation."

After a few minutes of silence, they said, "Well then." I was happy for them. I didn't want their vacation ruined for me. The sun reached its height. Its searing heat had grown. Emilia came out of the room in her bikini.

"How do I look?"

"You look great." I added. After twirling around once... she pointed to the room with both hands and said, "Now it's Ms. Sude's turn." And the room door opened again. Sude came out in her stylish bikini. The white tulle she tied to her skirt looked chic. "Bravo," I approved with my hand. "Now it's Ms. Kiraz's turn." Sude said. The room door opened again, and Kiraz came with slow steps. She was tugging at her clothes, looking dissatisfied.

"Come on Kiraz, stop fiddling with your outfit."

"But I don't feel good in these clothes."

"Seriously? You look very chic."

"I'm going to change."

"No way."

"But I don't want to, Sude."

"Kiraz, if you don't feel good, you can change," I said.

"Did you hear that?"

"Derya! We were going to do a 'bestie match' but…"

"Sude, don't push the girl. If she doesn't want to, let her wear something else. You can do it later."

"Fine..." Kiraz went into the room and closed the door. Five minutes later, She had on a long white tulle skirt, a yellow crop blouse, and a thin white vest over it. "You look very sweet." Kiraz took a deep breath. She looked comfortable in her clothes. "Yes, you look beautiful…" said Sude. "Sude, I'm sorry. I didn't feel good in those clothes." There was a knock at the door. Emilia opened the door. "Here you go, ma'am, your drink." She took the drink and closed the door.

"Sude, your drink is here."

"Can you hand it to Derya?"

"Okay." I propped myself up slightly and took a sip of the drink. While a sour taste formed in my mouth, a burning sensation hit my throat from the undertones. My lips puckered from the sourness.

"This is very bitter."

"It's starting to burn your throat, isn't it?"

"Yes…"

"Then it's very good."

"Ah, I didn't like it at all."

"Nothing to be done, you have to finish it."

"BUT! OH!"

After finishing all of the strange drink, I put it down on the table firmly. I took the prescription from the nightstand and wiped my lips. After the girls finished their conversation, Emilia looked at her watch. "1:40 PM."

"We're getting late..."

"Yes, girls, you should go right away. Who knows, maybe you'll see some handsome guys."

"Don't, Derya..."

"Why? you never know! What if someone just like your ideal appears, showing he loves you without saying it?"

"Are you dreaming?"

"Maybe."

After sweet laughter, the girls left the room.

I peered through the window; the peaceful blue notes of the sky were fading, and the melancholic orange of the sun was reflecting. At these hours, I would take my book of poetry and pour the notes in my heart onto the paper with a pen. I suppose I should have done that, but watching the beauty of the view was more pleasant. Sometimes in life, you just need to watch where you are; looking at the beauties offered to us every minute with admiration and being hopeful that was everything I thought with all my heart.

Getting caught up in rushes, exhaustions, illnesses, tasks, responsibilities, and more, forgetting to live, passing by a small rose blooming in the garden without looking, not knowing the colors of the pavement. Just stopping to watch and taking a deep breath. This life was given to us for this: to be thankful and to live correctly. Every second we surrender to our exhaustion is like a single flower petal we unknowingly let wither. As these words echoed in my thoughts, the door knocked. I slowly got up and opened the door. "Hello ma'am, this was sent to you."

"What is this?"

"Unfortunately, we don't have the authority to look."

"Well, do you know who sent it?"

"The sender is keeping their identity private. Have a good day."

He handed me the black plastic bag he was holding. I closed the door; I was surprised. I sat on the bed and poured the contents of the black plastic bag onto it. There were lots of medicines. I took the doctor's prescription from my pocket and looked at the names of the medicines; they were all the same. Joyfully, I began to use the medicines as written in the doctor's prescription. A sip of water and a pill. There was a small note in the plastic bag: "It's late, but I'm sorry. I hope you get well soon."

Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick...

"Who is this knocking so fiercely on the door?" I got up angrily and swung the door open. Alex was standing in front of me.

"Alex, what are you doing here?"

"I came to see you, are you available?"

"Yes, come in." He entered, and then I closed the door. He sat on the bed.

"I see you've gotten your medicine."

"Oh right... Didn't you pick them up?"

"No, I didn't. I didn't know you went to the doctor; I wish you had told me beforehand." "Sorry, I couldn't let you know." I sat down right next to him. "How are you feeling now?" "I don't know, a bit sluggish."

"You'll get better..."

"Why did you come? Is there a problem?" "Actually..."

"Yes." He approached me, as the light in his eyes glared into my eyes, he leaned in as close as the level of my nose; my heart was beating involuntarily and non-stop, I suddenly pulled back, but he got a little closer.

"Is there a problem, Alex?"

"No, wait a minute." He moved his hand over my face and said, "Right there."

"What?"

"A black mark is left on your cheek."

"Ah, are you serious?" He wiped the blackness on my cheek and slowly backed away.

"Thank you so much, I'm grateful."

"Is that so?"

"Yes."

"In that case, you'll have dinner with me at the restaurant by the beach tomorrow evening, what do you say?"

"Well..."

"Oh come on Derya, just a dinner."

"Fine then."

He smiled and kissed me on the cheek. While I was looking at him with surprise, he stood up and said, "I'll pick you up around 7:00 PM."

I couldn't say anything... He waved and went outside. While I was under the influence of the kiss, I was thinking 'I wish I hadn't accepted', but there was nothing to do; I had already accepted. I lay down on the bed, took a thin blanket over me, and fell asleep.
