Accelerating Hope's emotional regulation training while simultaneously monitoring a prison break echo that was getting stronger daily was basically like juggling chainsaws while riding a unicycle, and I was really bad at both juggling and unicycles so the metaphor worked on multiple levels.

"Mama you're doing the worry face again." Hope's observation came while she was supposed to be meditating but was apparently using that time to analyze my emotional state through the bond instead. "The one where your forehead gets wrinkly."

My forehead gets wrinkly. Right. Our two-year-old was critiquing my stress responses while learning to manage her own.

"I'm just thinking about grown-up things." My standard deflection. "Focus on your breathing. Five counts in. Five counts out."
