Chapter 96 - The Unhidden History! Who is Rōmu?!

"Ice Age."

The moment Aokiji's words fell—

his aura snapped sharp.

Both palms flared, and two deep-blue ice lances—each more than ten meters long—shot forward like spears of frozen light, stabbing straight into the tsunamis at their highest point just before they crashed down.

Crack!

The instant the ice touched the waves, a crisp shattering sound rang out.

The towering seawalls froze at a speed visible to the naked eye—solidifying from crest to base in a blink.

And it didn't stop there.

That bone-deep cold spread outward like a plague.

In the span of a heartbeat, the sea for several kilometers around Marineford turned into one vast ice field—flat, pale, and merciless.

One strike.

And the disaster that could've swallowed Marineford whole… was erased.

Aokiji exhaled, a thread of icy breath leaving his lips. The lazy looseness vanished from his posture, replaced by a hunter's calm.

Across the live broadcast, the world erupted.

"He froze the entire sea…?! That's an Admiral?!"

"Terrifying…"

"I thought he was just some laid-back guy with an eye-mask—what the hell?!"

"This is it… the war is starting!"

They were right.

Whitebeard's fleet, Shiki's sky armada, Kaido's Beasts Pirates—

against the Navy Headquarters, the Seven Warlords…

and those five mysterious elders.

No matter who won, the era was about to be rewritten.

Marineford — The First Exchange

Below the newly formed ice pillars, young Marines stared upward like they'd survived an execution.

"It… stopped…"

"We're alive…!!"

"As expected of Admiral Kuzan!"

They were shaking. Some were crying openly, snot and tears mixing with sweat.

On the Moby Dick—

Whitebeard's expression didn't change much, but his eyes narrowed.

"Aokiji… you brat."

Before the words even faded—

two figures appeared beside him with twin shockwaves of presence.

Shiki.

Kaido.

"I didn't think it'd come to this," Shiki said, cigar bobbing with his breath. "Those brats from back then… they've grown."

"Meh," Kaido snorted, unimpressed. "Still nothing special."

The three legends stood shoulder-to-shoulder, facing the fortress like a wall of calamity.

Aokiji's gaze sharpened.

His body turned crystalline; frost crawled over his limbs.

Ice spears formed around him, hovering like execution stakes.

"Two more, huh…"

With a sharp motion, he launched them.

The spears tore through the air, leaving white trails of cold that made the sky look scarred.

Shiki exhaled smoke with a thin grin.

"Navy Admirals…"

"One generation worse than the last."

His blades—Oto and Kogarashi—flashed out.

"Lion's Chikiri Valley!"

A golden slash collided with the incoming ice—

CRACK!

Both shattered into glittering powder.

Aokiji didn't flinch.

"Such a pain…"

He pulled the cold inward—compressing it, sculpting it—

and in an instant, a massive ice bird took shape, shrieking with razor-clean frost.

"Ice Block: Pheasant Beak!"

The ice phoenix screamed and dove.

Everything it passed—air, mist, even breath—grew thorns of ice.

The Navy Answers With Total Firepower

Akainu moved.

His arms became magma, heat roaring off him like a furnace door thrown open.

"Meteor Volcano!"

He fired.

The sky filled with molten fists—dozens, then hundreds—falling like a meteor shower straight toward the Moby Dick.

Marine officers forced their voices to work through fear.

"We have the Navy's strongest force—Admirals!"

"Y-Yeah!! Pirates aren't scary!!"

"Open fire!"

A flag snapped down.

Heavy cannons thundered in unison.

Black cannonballs—hot from friction—joined Akainu's magma rain, turning the air above the Moby Dick into a killing zone.

Then—

Kizaru entered the battlefield as if he'd always been there.

Arms crossed. Fingers shaped.

"Yasakani no Magatama."

His body turned into light.

A constellation ignited in the sky.

And countless golden beams rained down—saturating every angle, every line, every gap.

Magma.

Cannonfire.

Light bullets.

A 360-degree saturation bombardment.

No dead zones.

The Warlords React

On the wall, Moria sucked in a breath, trying to keep his usual cocky mask intact—yet his eyes were tight.

Even as wide-area attacks, that pressure could kill him.

Doflamingo clicked his tongue, more focused than he wanted anyone to notice.

One moment of weakness and Marineford would become a grave.

Even Mihawk and Hancock—who usually looked down on the world—quietly drew tension into their bodies.

They hadn't truly witnessed Whitebeard, Shiki, and Kaido fighting at full scale with their own eyes.

Seeing three Admirals open with this much violence made the atmosphere feel… wrong.

Then a low voice cut through their unease.

"Don't move."

A massive figure stood among them—silent, heavy, unreadable.

"He said to wait."

"Hold until he arrives."

Mihawk, Doflamingo, and Hancock all froze for a fraction.

He.

Their "leader."

The word hung in the air like a blade.

Moria and Weevil, standing farther to the side, looked confused.

"Leader…?"

"What leader?!"

But Blackbeard didn't care.

He stared at Whitebeard like a starving dog watching meat.

"Show me."

"Show me the true power of the Tremor Fruit."

His tongue slid over his lips—pure greed.

Three Legends Clash With Three Admirals

On the Moby Dick, Whitebeard finally stopped smiling.

He drew power into his fists—so dense it made the air feel heavy.

Even Shiki and Kaido's eyelids twitched.

If those strikes landed wrong, even monsters bled.

Whitebeard's mouth curved anyway.

"I told you two…"

"Don't you dare hold me back."

He stepped, braced, and slammed both palms into the sky—

CRRRAAACK!

The air shattered like glass.

Spiderweb fractures spread through the heavens, expanding wildly as tremor power detonated outward.

The entire sky warped.

The ground groaned.

Shiki's face turned savage.

"Me? Hold you back?!"

He crushed his cigar between his teeth and clenched his hand.

The world around him answered.

"Lion's Earth Roll!!"

The ground near the Moby Dick churned like a living thing.

Rock tore free from gravity, surged upward, and fused together—

forming massive stone lions with jagged fangs and murderous faces.

They roared.

Then charged.

Stampeding toward the fortress like a natural disaster given legs.

Anything in their path—wood, stone, bodies—was pulverized.

Kaido clicked his tongue.

"Can't let you old bastards hog the spotlight…"

Thunder rolled.

The bright sky darkened as clouds piled in unnaturally fast.

A zigzag lightning bolt slammed down.

A roar—ancient, brutal—split the air.

Two massive teal claws tore the clouds open like paper.

And a serpentine dragon body emerged—covered in blue-green scales, whiskers whipping, eyes burning.

Kaido's voice shook the battlefield.

"I'm going to revive Captain Rōmu's final glory!!"

He seized lightning in his claw—

and hurled it like a spear of wrath.

The Collision

Ice phoenix.

Magma meteors.

Light bullets.

Tremor shockwaves.

Stone lions.

Dragon lightning.

Six forces crashed together.

BOOOOOOM!!

Marineford's sky detonated into blinding fire and smoke.

Even the broadcast screens struggled to display it cleanly—everything was flashing, overexposed, shaking.

Only those at vice-admiral level and above could barely track the details.

Aokiji's ice bird didn't "melt."

It sublimated—solid ice becoming gas instantly under the violence, turning into pale white fog before it could even become water.

Stone lions swatted light bullets apart like insects—

some even opened their mouths and swallowed magma fists, their stone bellies glowing before cracking from within.

Kaido's lightning detonated cannonballs midair, chain-exploding the barrage into fiery blossoms.

For minutes, the sky looked like a continuous eruption.

Then, finally—

the blast light dimmed.

Smoke rolled.

The world could breathe again.

The Name That Makes the Battlefield Shake

Across Marineford, Marines stared like they'd lost the ability to blink.

"This… this is what legends are?!"

"Kaido turned into a dragon…!"

"Whitebeard… Shiki… just swinging like that could destroy the world…"

"I thought the Admirals could crush pirates easily…"

"And yet—this is only the opening exchange…"

Then the whispers started.

Not about Whitebeard.

Not about Shiki.

Not even about Kaido.

A single name began spreading from mouth to mouth like a contagion.

"Rōmu… who is that?"

"I've heard that name before…"

"Wait—Roger…!"

"Roger shouted a name before he died in Loguetown… wasn't it Rōmu?!"

"Could it be the same person?!"

The older veterans stiffened.

Their faces drained.

Because for them, "Rōmu" wasn't a rumor.

It was a scar.

A nightmare carved into history.

And as the battlefield's noise rose again, the question echoed louder than cannonfire—

Who… is Rōmu?!
