Chapter 69 - Chapter 69: Like a God Descending from the Sky

"So we still failed in the end?"

Dr. Genus questioned Jovian.

"Yeah. A God-level monster showed up to mess things up, so I had no choice but to pull out."

With one hand, Jovian crushed the throat of a Demon-level monster and spoke into his headset.

"There's nothing we can do about that. Then keep searching."

"I've already used DNA replication to recreate an improved version of Mosquito Girl. I'll have her control swarms of mosquitoes to help you find the Monster Association. We should see results soon."

Dr. Genus assumed Jovian was joking about a "God-level monster," so he didn't take it seriously.

"Looks like that's the only option."

Jovian nodded, then punched the monster beside him—blowing its head apart in one hit.

Splat…

Under a sky of ketchup-red spray…

Amid piles of monster remains and streets cracked open by the shockwaves of Jovian's fists, he protected yet another city.

Two more days passed…

"Hahahaha…"

In the coastal city of J-City, countless muscular monsters climbed out of the previously calm ocean. Some had octopus-like bodies, others looked like monstrous fish—but all of them shared the same traits:

Absurd strength. Massive size.

"I'm going to eat every human in this city!"

"Stupid humans—look up and worship your masters!"

"Welcome the arrival of the Seafolk!"

The Seafolk screamed and jeered nonstop.

"AAAH!!"

People wailed at the sight of those huge, powerful Seafolk. Fear and despair spread through the crowd like a disease.

"Don't be afraid! Leave this to me—A-Class hero Stinger!"

A man with spiky hair, a skintight suit, and a long spear suddenly stepped out from the crowd. He killed one Seafolk in a single strike, then turned to the camera and flashed a perfect smile.

"It's a hero! Go, hero!"

Civilians shouted encouragement, clinging to that sudden hope.

"Leave this to me! Everyone get to the shelter!"

Stinger left them a dramatic, heroic silhouette and charged the Seafolk pouring out of the sea.

Meanwhile…

"Jovian, I just got a report—J-City has an organized monster invasion. You should take a look. You might get something out of it."

The moment Dr. Genus received the news, he forwarded it to Jovian.

"J-City, huh?"

Jovian pulled out the phone he carried on him and checked the headlines.

Emergency Notice: J-City disaster level escalated from Tiger to Demon. Several A-Class heroes have been defeated. One S-Class hero has been defeated. The monsters are advancing toward J-City's evacuation shelter. Any capable heroes, please move to intercept immediately…

Seeing the alert—and the close-up photos of the monsters—Jovian immediately remembered who was behind it.

"The Deep Sea King?"

The first thing that came to mind was the monster that had defeated Puri-Puri Prisoner and Genos—the "Winless Legend"—two S-Class heroes in a row. One of the more intimidating monsters in season one… but in reality, just a Demon-level small fry.

Not even close to monsters like Asura Kabuto, and a bunch of other no-name Dragon-level extras that Saitama casually swatted to death.

"If I kill him and clean out that low-grade genetic trash, I'll pick up some kind of underwater buff," Jovian muttered. "Feels useless, but whatever."

After a brief pause, he decided to erase the Deep Sea King while he was at it.

Once he made up his mind, Jovian shot into the sky. With a thunderous sonic boom, he tore through the clouds and flew straight toward J-City.

Boom!

At that moment, the Deep Sea King—fresh off crushing Puri-Puri Prisoner—smashed a single fist into the evacuation shelter's wall and blew it open.

"Heh…"

He stepped through the broken wall, staring at the crowd of delicious humans as drool ran down his face.

"So many weak little snacks…" the Deep Sea King smiled. "Where should I start?"

"Mom! I'm scared!"

A little girl buried her face against her mother, crying loudly.

"Don't be afraid," the young mother whispered, hugging her tight. "A hero will come save us."

"A hero?" The Deep Sea King snorted. "I already killed them all."

"Decided. I'll start by eating you…"

His ear twitched as he locked onto his chosen prey.

"Stop."

Just as the Deep Sea King stepped forward, several heroes—who had blended into the shelter crowd to hide—stood up and walked out in front of him.

"You are…?" the Deep Sea King asked, suspicious.

"We're heroes!"

At the front was the low-ranked A-Class hero, Snakebite Snek.

Beside him stood three more heroes who'd been hiding in the shelter: two C-Class and one B-Class. Four heroes total—two C-Class, one B-Class, one A-Class.

That lineup looked almost… reassuring.

"We can win."

A hero with slicked-back hair stared at the group and suddenly felt confidence surge. For a moment, it really did feel like they had a chance against this monster.

"Go! Heroes!!"

The evacuated civilians cheered again, hope flaring in their eyes.

"We've got this!"

The slick-haired hero's blood started pumping from all the shouting.

The Deep Sea King tilted his massive fish-like face at them.

"You're heroes?"

"Yeah! We're heroes!" the four answered together.

Boom!

The instant they finished speaking, the Deep Sea King moved.

His gigantic palm sliced through the air faster than human eyes could track, and in one brutal motion he slapped all four heroes away like cannonballs—smearing them into the wall.

"And you call yourselves heroes?" the Deep Sea King said in disgust.

Silence swallowed the shelter.

All the people who'd been cheering a second ago shut their mouths.

"What, not talking anymore?" the Deep Sea King mocked.

"Keep yelling."

"Keep screaming!"

"I like the sound of you panicking~"

No one even dared to breathe.

"If you're not going to talk… then I'll start eating~"

The Deep Sea King rolled his shoulders, ready to enjoy today's all-you-can-eat buffet.

BOOM!

Right as he was about to move, a thunderous roar came from above—like lightning striking the shelter itself—and a huge hole blew open through the reinforced ceiling.

"Huh?! And what the hell are you supposed to be?!"

The Deep Sea King snapped his head up and roared at the white figure hovering in the air. He'd been interrupted too many times, and his rage was boiling over.

Bzzzt—

The moment he looked up, two crimson beams dropped from the sky and cleaved the arrogant Deep Sea King cleanly in half.

The storm clouds scattered. Sunlight poured down through the shattered roof.

A figure in pure white descended slowly, backlit by the sun—his entire body washed in gold, floating down like a god come to earth, like a true divine guardian watching over humanity.

And his enemy…

In the instant that "god" arrived, he vanished like the dark clouds above everyone's heads—gone without a trace.
