"What? Mosquito Girl got taken out?!"
Inside the House of Evolution's base, a man in a black suit with nearsighted glasses perched on his nose jolted when he received the report.
"Too fast… She was only just released. It hasn't even been that long, and Mosquito Girl is already dead. She really is…"
As soon as he confirmed the news, his eyes trembled, and his expression twisted.
"She's useless—dead useless! Then I didn't collect a single shred of data! Damn it…"
Yes. The reason his face contorted was because Mosquito Girl had pissed him off. Even if she was "just" a test subject, she was still a creation he'd poured a lot of effort into. And now she'd been killed outright—without producing any useful data. That stung.
"Alert. High-energy signature approaching…"
Right as he seethed, his computer suddenly blared with a harsh alarm.
"Hm?!"
He froze at the sound.
"A high-energy signature is approaching?! Has our base been discovered by an enemy?!"
He muttered to himself. He'd always known there was a chance the base would be exposed—but he never expected it to happen this soon.
"Perfect. I'll use this enemy to test whether my research has actually paid off."
He licked the corner of his mouth, suddenly looking forward to the intruder's arrival. He believed the power in his hands was enough to crush any opponent—because within the House of Evolution, beyond the failures out in the open, there was a hidden trump card: his strongest weapon, half-successful and half-failed. That one "weapon" alone made his confidence swell, to the point where he believed he could face any threat head-on.
"Bring up the feed."
As the creator of the House of Evolution, he issued the command to his intelligent control system.
The next second, an image appeared in front of him.
It showed a patch of forest he recognized all too well. In the clearing at the edge of the trees stood a burly man in a white uniform with a huge letter "F" printed across his chest. In his hand, the man was gripping Mosquito Girl by her slender neck—her mosquito legs and wings already severed.
"This is…"
"The newly promoted S-Class hero… Freedom, a.k.a. Jovian?!"
The man's eyes lit up as he stared at the screen, at the muscular figure casually pinching Mosquito Girl's fate between two fingers.
"So the one who beat Mosquito Girl is an S-Class hero? Looks like my luck isn't terrible. If that's the case, I might be able to collect some excellent data…"
He adjusted his glasses and smiled.
"Locate the newly promoted S-Class hero, Freedom—Jovian."
He spoke to his computer.
"Locating…"
"Location confirmed…"
"The target is currently standing at the main entrance of the House of Evolution base."
The computer answered quickly.
"I see. So that Freedom—Jovian is already outside our front door…"
He smiled faintly—then, in the next instant, sensed something was off.
"Wait… he's at our front door?! Doesn't that mean he's already outside?!"
The calm in his voice cracked into a trace of panic. No wonder the surroundings on the feed looked so familiar—because the enemy was literally on their doorstep.
"Yes."
The computer confirmed.
"Damn it. I got careless—he got close without making a sound…"
He rubbed his forehead, annoyance flickering across his face.
"But whatever. Since you've come… you're not leaving."
The man—Dr. Genus, the super-genius who once shook an entire era—stared at Jovian on the screen with feverish excitement.
"Beast King! Armored Gorilla! Ground Dragon! Kamakyuri! Frog Man! Slugerous! Go! Don't let him get away!"
Dr. Genus barked out orders to his subordinates.
"Understood…"
From the shadows, a pack of monsters radiating oppressive auras received the command and began heading outside. Their mission was simple: obey Dr. Genus and eliminate the intruder completely.
Outside the base, on the lawn in front of the building, Jovian stared at the structure in silence…
"This is the House of Evolution!"
"Please, you have to believe me—I really didn't lie to you."
Mosquito Girl spoke with the utmost deference, expressing her respect for Jovian.
"I know. I saw it."
Through X-ray vision, Jovian had already seen everything he wanted to see.
"Then I…"
Mosquito Girl looked at him timidly.
"I'll send you back."
Jovian glanced into the distance, then lifted Mosquito Girl and hurled her toward the city he'd come from.
Boom!
Trailing a string of sonic booms, Mosquito Girl was launched cleanly on her way.
"I said I'd send you back, so I'm sending you back."
Jovian watched her vanish into the distance and nodded in satisfaction.
City Z, downtown…
A bald man with a can of insecticide chased a bona fide God-level monster—the Mosquito Swarm—across three whole city blocks.
"You damn mosquito!"
Teeth clenched, the bald man glared at the pest in front of him and roared in fury.
Boom!
Just as the God-level monster continued to toy with him—letting him spray and spray with absolutely no effect—a piercing whoosh cut through the air, and a beautiful mosquito babe dropped from the sky.
"Hahahaha…"
"Human! Perfect—time to refill my stamina!"
Freshly "sent away" by Jovian, Mosquito Girl had barely escaped danger when she spotted an incredibly appetizing bald man. She licked her lips lightly, already desperate to suck the bright red blood from his body.
Smack!
But the bald man, seeing the cute mosquito babe fall from the heavens, broke into a delighted grin—then swung a casual slap at her.
Smack!
From the mosquito babe's perspective, the tiny hand suddenly ballooned into something massive, blotting out the sky…
Boom!
In the next second, the beautiful mosquito babe exploded into a spray of crimson, painting the street red.
"Ah! I finally killed the mosquito!"
The bald man smiled in heartfelt relief.
"Shit! That damn bald demon king! Mosquito Girl was so cute—how could you hit her?!"
At the entrance to the House of Evolution, Jovian—his eyes piercing through layers of obstacles—watched the "friendly interaction" between the bald demon king and Mosquito Girl in the distance. Seeing her reduced to street paint, he put on a look of "heartbreak." Sure enough, that bald guy was the most evil monster in the world.
"Hey, kid—aren't you pretty damn cocky?"
"You seriously think you can barge into the House of Evolution?!"
"Do you even know who I am?! Let me, Frog Man, show you—"
Just as Jovian covered his face with one hand, refusing to watch the bald demon king's brutal methods, a frog-like mutant strutted up beside him and spoke arrogantly.
Thud!
With his left hand still on his cheek, Jovian swung his right fist and slammed it into the chattering Frog Man at his side.
