Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Power Level

"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!"

Once the Guardians of the Globe headquarters fell quiet again, fully armed soldiers with assault rifles suddenly appeared out of thin air inside the room.

"My God…!"

Among the investigators, one man in a suit—slicked-back hair, sunglasses—felt his scalp go numb when he saw the carnage.

The strongest superhero team on Earth… wiped out?!

He wanted to believe this was some kind of sick April Fools' joke.

"Report!"

"Omni-Man still has vital signs—he might be alive!"

A few heavily armed soldiers rushed to Nolan Grayson, ran quick scans, and confirmed the strongest superhero on the planet might still be breathing.

"Get him to the hospital. Save him at any cost!"

"Lock down all information from this site. Until we have a conclusion, not a single word leaks—no matter what!"

The leader of the group, an older man in a suit with long, graying hair, stared at the scene in deep distress, his thoughts grinding in circles.

He didn't want to believe it…

But if—if a supervillain truly existed who could defeat the entire Guardians of the Globe and Omni-Man…

Then all he could do was pray.

Pray that God Himself would step down from heaven and stop that monster.

Elsewhere…

Jovian was already back at school.

In the time it took those investigators to crawl around the scene, he hadn't only returned—he'd even taken a quick trip to Hawaii and tossed the Immortal's heart and head into Kilauea's crater.

Now he wanted to see how the Immortal resurrected.

What, was he going to regrow the rest of his body from just a head and a heart by "drinking lava"?

Give him a break.

"Hey! Jovian—I looked for you all lunchtime. Where'd you go?!"

Just as Jovian finished washing his hands and stepped out of the restroom, he ran into Mark, looking proud and buzzing like he'd just won the lottery.

"Bathroom."

Jovian jerked his thumb toward the door behind him.

"You missed your own brother's legendary moment because you went to the bathroom?!"

"You have no idea how brave I was!"

"I personally took down a supervillain who shoots lasers!"

Mark looked at Jovian like an eager dog waiting for praise, practically wagging his tail.

"Uh…"

Jovian glanced out the window. His hearing and vision spiked past anything normal.

"So that's your excuse for blowing up a building?"

He pointed toward a skyscraper three miles away, still smoking.

"Don't get hung up on details…"

Mark scratched his head, suddenly awkward.

"Jovian, you know the guy shoots lasers! Pew-pew-pew—like that! I couldn't stop it!"

Mark mimed firing beams. It was ridiculously goofy.

"I know. Anyway… good job."

Jovian patted Mark's shoulder and headed down the hallway.

He needed more people to see him—make sure he had an alibi.

"Did you hear that?! Even Jovian said I did great!"

Mark clenched his fists, thrilled, and stomped hard—

Boom!

With a thunderous impact, the floor instantly caved in, leaving a huge hole.

"Crap!"

Mark stared at the hole, looked left and right, realized nobody saw…

And bolted.

Jovian taught him well: when you run into a problem you don't want to deal with, the smartest move is to leave first.

"Hey, Jovian!"

"Good afternoon, Jovian!"

"Jovian, wanna shoot hoops later?!"

All around campus, people called out greetings. Jovian smiled and nodded back, acknowledging them one by one.

As a member of the school football team, Jovian was basically a minor celebrity—everywhere he went, students greeted him.

Normally, he'd respond with friendly words and a warm smile.

But today was different.

Right now he was… special.

His brain was busy.

In his mind, a 3D character screen hovered into view.

Character: Jovian Sebastian Grayson

Species: Viltrumite

Power Level: Strong surface-tier (weak planet-buster)

Genetic Scan: No high-quality genes detected for replication

Dimensional Gate Energy Collection Rate: 41%

Jovian stared at the interface and the corner of his mouth twitched.

That trashy mobile-game look—there was no way he'd mistake it.

It was a third-rate time-waster he'd designed before getting isekai'd, called Multiverse: Strongest Gene Evolution—a dumb, relaxing game where the player jumps into different movies and shows, defeats powerful enemies, copies their genes, and eventually becomes the strongest.

He made it purely for his own entertainment.

He hadn't even started playing it yet—then one night he got too excited, knocked over a cup of water onto a power strip, and that was that: straight into another world.

Back then he'd regretted not trying his own game.

Now?

No regrets.

This was his cheat.

And nobody understood how to use it better than the developer.

He could harvest energy from the bodies of people he killed.

If their genes were useful to him, he could choose to copy them.

If not, all of it could be dumped into charging the dimensional gate.

"So the original plan can be adjusted…"

"The 'only Freeborn in the universe' plan is outdated!"

"I'm going to be the Freeborn of the entire multiverse…"

"No—"

"The one and only Freeborn of the entire omniverse!"

Once Jovian realized he'd awakened the cheat, he abandoned his old roadmap on the spot.

Right now he felt unstoppable.

With this system, maybe he could even pick up laser eyes for himself—because what kind of Freeborn doesn't have heat vision?

After that, Jovian kept an extremely low profile: class, school's out, home—while Mark chattered nonstop the whole way.

A few hours later, as the sky darkened…

The Global Defense Agency finally knocked on the Graysons' front door.

"Mrs. Grayson, there's something we need to discuss with you—and your family."

When Debbie opened the door, several men in black suits and sunglasses stood outside, watching her in silence.

In a Pentagon facility…

"Mrs. Grayson, please don't worry. Nolan is receiving treatment here that's far beyond the world's best medical care."

"I'm confident he'll recover soon. After all, he's the strongest man on this planet."

A blond man in sunglasses and a black suit led Debbie, Mark, and Jovian down the hallway.

They didn't say anything.

When the man pushed open a hospital room and drew back the curtain, it revealed a patient with a swollen, bruised face and a body covered in injuries.

Omni-Man Nolan.

"Did I hit too hard…?"

Jovian frowned slightly as he looked at Nolan barely hanging on.

"…"

The man in sunglasses sighed softly.

To him, Jovian looked like a young man staring at his beaten father—full of worry, hatred, and fury.
