Chapter 13 - Eating Modern Cookies

Thinking of Chu Lianxin, that scheming stepmother, who was always targeting her behind her back, Jiang Luoxue immediately decided that she would find an opportunity to take all the treasures from the Minister's mansion.

She will take back every single penny of the original owner's mother's dowry.

When the scumbag father runs out of money to bribe officials and the stepmother runs out of money to buy fancy clothes, their expressions will surely be quite pleasant.

Thinking of this, Jiang Luoxue felt a surge of excitement and couldn't wait to do something naughty.

After chatting with Xuan Tong for a while, she learned that the flow rate in this space is different from that outside; one day inside is equivalent to one hour outside.

Jiang Luoxue wasn't in a hurry to go out, so she simply took a nice nap on the large bed in the space.

She practiced the fighting techniques again.

When she returned to Wensiyuan, it was still dark.

She simply lay down on the hard bed and thought about what to do next.

First, she needs to find out who drugged the original owner and then had the bandits kidnap him.

It's certain that Chu Lianxin was involved, but she, a woman who spends most of her time in the inner quarters, couldn't possibly accomplish it.

There must have been someone else involved. Was it the person Granny Zhou mentioned, or her scumbag fiancé?

Or perhaps both of them were involved?

The thought that because of what these people did, she ended up in bed with a stranger made her feel terrible.

Jiang Luoxue hated them to death.

Although she didn't care about her innocence like the people here, this was still her first time, and she was tricked into giving herself to a stranger. How could she not feel resentful?

Therefore, all those who plotted against her must be found out, and then they must be killed one by one to vent her anger.

How can she check this?

Using force is definitely not an option.

She knew from her fight with Ye Xuanchen that although these ancient people did not have modern weapons, they had extremely high martial arts skills and internal strength.

Although she now has the support of weapons with spatial abilities, she cannot use them openly at all.

She understood the ancient saying, "Possessing a treasure is a crime."

If people found out she possessed a revolutionary weapon, those ambitious individuals would never let her off the hook.

They will probably try every means to capture her and use various forms of torture to force her to hand over her weapons.

Jiang Luoxue couldn't help but shudder when she thought of the Ten Cruelest Tortures of the Qing Dynasty depicted in movies and TV dramas.

Unless she stays in the space forever and never comes out, her life is in danger at any time.

It seems the best course of action is to play it safe for now and then outsmart them.

The thought of being isolated and helpless in this unfamiliar era, with so many people around her waiting to ruin her reputation, gave Jiang Luoxue a headache.

She's no longer a secret agent on a mission; she can do it all by herself.

This is not the modern era with all sorts of tracking devices and eavesdropping devices.

Everything here needs to be done manually.

She felt overwhelmed by the task at hand.

It seems she'll need to cultivate some trusted and skilled individuals of her own in the future, otherwise it will be inconvenient for her to do anything.

Jiang Luoxue had been lost in thought for a short while when it was already broad daylight outside. She heard the two maids getting up in the outer room, so she simply closed her eyes and pretended to sleep.

Miss, it's time to get up!" Chunhe entered the room and walked to the bedside, calling out softly.

Jiang Luoxue hadn't been asleep, and upon hearing her heartbeat, she opened her eyes: "What time is it?"

"At the second quarter of the hour of Mao (5:45 AM), Qiuju went to the courtyard to fetch food. This servant will help you wash up."

Chunhe first helped her put on her complicated clothes, then put the water for washing on the shelf, and then used a special willow twig dipped in salt to clean her master's teeth.

Jiang Luoxue glanced at the toothbrush in her hand and decided that from now on, she would brush her teeth in the space before coming out.

After brushing her teeth, Chunhe wanted to wring out a handkerchief to wipe her master's hands.

"I can do this myself," Jiang Ruoxue quickly stopped her, then wrung out a handkerchief and wiped her face.

I had just finished washing up when I saw Qiuju walk in from outside, looking pale.

Seeing her like this, Chunhe was worried that it would affect her mistress's mood, so she quickly scolded her: "What's wrong with you? Why are you giving me such a hard time so early in the morning!"

Qiuju said angrily, "These people are really too much. Seeing that Miss is confined to her quarters, they actually gave her this scary stuff that no one would eat."

After saying that, she put the food box on the table. Chunhe's expression changed when she saw it, and anger appeared on her usually gentle face.

"These sycophantic scoundrels are truly despicable."

Jiang Luoxue glanced at the food box, which contained several dark, unappetizing cornbread buns with greasy soup residue on them. They looked like they had been fished out of a garbage can, making her want to vomit.

She knew in her heart that the servants wouldn't have such audacity; they must have been instructed by their superiors to treat her this way.

"Throw it away!" She was afraid she would throw up if she looked at it any longer.

"Miss, I'm going to go and reason with them!" Qiu Ju angrily headed for the door.

"Come back. You can't even leave the house. How are you going to reason with them?" Jiang Luoxue interrupted.

"Then this servant can't just watch you starve like this, Miss!" Qiuju stopped in her tracks, her eyes red with anger.

Chunhe also shed tears, feeling sorry for her young lady.

She lost her mother at a young age, and her father only had eyes for the two children born to his second wife.

Being bullied in the mansion with no one to stand up for you, life is just too miserable.

Jiang Luoxue glanced at the two maids who looked worried and as if the sky was about to fall.

She sighed helplessly, "Don't worry, I saved the people from the General's Mansion today, and they brought me a lot of snacks to thank me. Wait for me, I'll go get them now, and don't come in!"

After Jiang Luoxue finished speaking, she went into the house and closed the door from the inside.

She took out some modern cookies from her spatial storage, unwrapped them, and threw them back into the storage space before taking them out to invite the two maids to eat with her.

The pastries that Chunhe Qiuju has seen and eaten are either round, square, or long and narrow, and the flavors are very limited.

This is the first time I've ever seen a pastry with a filling, with odd shapes and a wide variety of flavors.

The two were quite surprised. Qiuju picked up a strawberry-flavored sandwich cookie, took a bite, and her eyes widened in astonishment.

"Wow! This is the first time I've ever had such a delicious pastry. It's crispy and sweet on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, and has an indescribable aroma. It's so delicious!"

"I never expected the pastries from the General's Mansion to be so exquisite."

As she spoke, she couldn't resist picking up another piece, only to find that the taste was different again. However, every flavor was incredibly delicious, making it hard for her to stop eating.

Chunhe also picked up a snow cake and put it in her mouth, chewing it slowly. The crispy and sweet taste made the usually composed Chunhe squint her eyes slightly as she savored the flavor.

However, both maids knew their limits and each only ate three pieces before stopping.
