Chapter 22 - Honoka & Shizuku

"What is the meaning of this?!" A man's deep, booming voice thundered across the gymnasium.

Every student turned their heads, watching in awe as three silhouettes framed the entrance.

A stalwart young man stood alongside two girls—one cute and petite, the other tall and slender. They were the three pillars of First High for two consecutive years: Katsuto Juumonji, Mayumi Saegusa, and Mari Watanabe.

Katsuto's expression was stoic, his gaze sharp and radiating authority.

Mayumi, however, lacked her usual warm smile. She was pouting, her piercing eyes locked onto Tatsuya, Morisaki, and Hanzou.

Mari's expression remained neutral, though she looked quite serious, especially as her gaze fell upon Morisaki. Feeling her stare, Morisaki shuddered and quickly looked away.

"Tatsuya-kun, exactly what is going on here?" Mayumi's voice was sharp, directed pointedly at Tatsuya.

"Senpai..."

"Hanzou-kun, stay quiet for a moment. I am speaking with Tatsuya-kun."

Hanzou gritted his teeth, reluctantly bowing his head in silence.

Tatsuya let out a soft sigh.

'I see. So this is why I'm so despised,' he thought.

"Tatsuya-kun."

"Ahem. Well, it went like this—" Tatsuya began to recount the truth, laying out the facts without a single hint of distortion.

Hanzou's face went pale, Morisaki began to tremble, and Kirihara was left utterly speechless. Their reactions alone were enough to prove the truth behind Tatsuya's words.

Sayaka also spoke up, lending her voice to support Tatsuya's statement.

"Hanzou-kun, why would you do something like this?" Mayumi's voice carried a heavy sense of disappointment that she made no effort to hide.

"Kaichou, I—"

Mayumi's ruby eyes widened slightly.

"Gulp..."

"After this, report to the Student Council room."

"Yes, Kaichou."

Hanzou lowered his head in dejection, but since this was a mess of his own making, no one felt particularly sorry for him.

"Morisaki, I appointed you to the Public Morals Committee to help resolve issues at school, not to cause new ones!" Mari's voice cut through the air.

"..."

"Report to the committee room after school. I have something to discuss with you."

Morisaki clenched his jaw and gave a reluctant nod.

Katsuto remained silent, but his gaze sent a clear, wordless message to Kirihara.

"We will handle things from here. Everyone, disperse!"

No student dared to ignore Katsuto's command—except for Tatsuya. The crowd of onlookers quickly scattered, leaving the gymnasium behind.

As Tatsuya prepared to leave, Sayaka stopped him.

"Wait a moment!"

"Hmm?"

Sayaka blushed, her cheeks turning a soft pink as she fidgeted restlessly.

Tatsuya was momentarily taken aback. "Ahem, Senpai?"

"Tatsuya-kun... would it be alright if I called you that?"

Tatsuya gave a generous smile, nodding with a gentle expression. "Of course."

"Hehehe, thank you." Sayaka smiled in relief, looking nothing like someone who had just faced a serious ordeal.

"Ahem! School is hardly the place for flirting," Mayumi remarked dryly, her gaze sharp and menacing.

Mari simply shrugged, while Katsuto stood still, saying nothing.

Suddenly, the room temperature seemed to drop several degrees. Sensing a bad omen, Tatsuya turned to see Miyuki smiling sweetly at him.

"Onii-sama, let us go."

...

On the way home, Miyuki remained glued to Tatsuya's side. Erika and Mizuki couldn't help but feel a bit awkward watching them.

"Miyuki? I'm fairly certain there's no need to cling to me this closely."

"But Miyuki wants to be like this. Is it not allowed?" Miyuki's eyes welled up with tears, looking incredibly adorable.

"...It's allowed. Who said it wasn't?" Tatsuya immediately softened, dropping the matter entirely.

Miyuki beamed with happiness, hugging Tatsuya's arm even tighter.

"Mizuki, this is what happens when a 'siscon' and a 'brocon' collide," Erika said with dead eyes.

Mizuki blushed and nodded in agreement.

Tatsuya, of course, overheard them. Instead of getting angry, he smirked and said, "Erika, are you perhaps jealous of Miyuki?"

"Huh?! Who said that?!"

"I did, obviously."

"...That's not what I meant! Why would you even think I'm jealous of her?"

"Well, let's see. My looks are above average, I've helped you out of trouble, and we've become quite close. It wouldn't be strange if you had feelings for me."

"Onii-sama..."

"You narcissist! You might be handsome, strong, and mysterious, but that doesn't mean it's enough to make me fall for you! I—"

"Hehehe..."

"Ugh, why are you laughing like that?"

Tatsuya flashed a mischievous grin. "I was only joking, but your reaction didn't seem like a joke at all."

"Ah..." Erika realized she'd been teased, turning beet-red as she looked down in embarrassment.

Mizuki's face was as red as a tomato, and Miyuki tightened her grip on Tatsuya's arm. Sensing Miyuki's mood, Tatsuya gently stroked her hair.

Miyuki gave a faint smile, looking a little better than before.

"Um... do you mind if we join you?" a sweet, feminine voice asked, catching everyone's attention.

"You are... Mitsui-san, if I recall?" Tatsuya said.

"Mm, my name is Honoka Mitsui. We're in the same class, Tatsuya-san, Miyuki-san."

"..."

"Ah, I just called you by your first names, is that alright? Since you both share the Yotsuba family name, I thought using your given names would prevent any confusion," Honoka explained frantically, her cheeks flushing an adorable shade of pink.

Tatsuya and Miyuki shared a relaxed smile.

"I don't mind at all."

"Neither do I."

Hearing their answers, Honoka let out a long sigh of relief.

"That's a relief, Honoka," said the petite girl beside her, Shizuku Kitayama.

"And you are... Kitayama-san?"

"Just call me Shizuku. In return, I'll call you Miyuki."

"In that case, Shizuku."

"Me too! I'll call you Miyuki as well, so you can call me Honoka!"

Miyuki gave a light nod, a gentle smile gracing her face.

"I understand, Honoka."
