Chapter 49 - Wanted by Marines and Working Part Time

The crew quickly gathered on the deck, their expressions a mix of excitement and curiosity as they stared at the freshly delivered wanted posters beside the newspaper.

Portgas D Leo (Wanted Poster Image here)

Captain of the Conqueror Pirates

Wanted: Dead or Alive

Bounty: 80,000,000 Berries

Leo stared at his poster for a long moment before clicking his tongue in dissatisfaction, he leaned back against the ship's railing with a frown.

"Only eighty million?" he muttered. "I thought stealing an island would at least push me past a hundred."

Nojiko (The Thief & Sniper)

Wanted: Dead or Alive

Bounty: 12,000,000 Berries

Nojiko blinked several times while reading her own poster, then slowly broke into a proud grin.

"Twelve million for my first bounty is actually amazing. It's even higher than Nami's zero bounty… I wonder how annoyed she'd be if she saw this."

Next to them was Laboon's poster. The giant Island Whale's image took up most of the paper.

Laboon (Island Whale)

Wanted: Dead

Bounty: 45,000,000 Berries

The moment Leo translated the poster's contents out loud, a booming, cheerful voice echoed.

"BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!! (I'm a famous pirate now! My pirate friends and my lost pack would be so proud if they could see my wanted poster!!")

'Definitely not…!' The entire crew thought at the exact same time.

Laboon was, without question, the happiest among them. Overjoyed, the colossal whale suddenly launched his enormous body out of the sea in celebration. The resulting splash and shockwave sent massive waves, nearly throwing everyone off their feet.

"LABOON!! STOP JUMPING!!" Nojiko yelled, barely managing to keep her balance.

Bon Clay dramatically clung to the mast, laughing as his tears spoiled his makeup.

"My bounty finally increased after all these years…" he sniffled, wiping his eyes. "The world still acknowledges my beauty~!"

Bentham (Bon Clay) (Baroque Works Agent)

Wanted: Dead or Alive

Bounty: 50,000,000 Berries

A short distance away, Jojo remained unconscious, sprawled beside the equally traumatized Unluckies. His measly 100,000 Berries poster fluttered beside him, a victim of suddenly appearing on the World Government's radar along with big shots.

It was still early morning, with a gentle sea breeze blowing across the deck. At their current speed, they would reach Nanohana Port City by early afternoon.

"I'll go prepare breakfast," Nojiko announced, stretching her arms. "Jojo, come help me, you lazy bum."

Jojo let out a weak groan but eventually dragged himself after her as she headed deeper into the island inside Laboon's stomach.

That left Leo, Robin, and Bon Clay seated together on the main deck to discuss their next plans. However, before they could even begin…

A strange presence appeared in the sky.

A lone black crow descended from the clouds, landing gracefully on the Deck's railing. Tied to its leg were a rolled-up letter and a peculiar Log Pose. Leo stepped forward cautiously and removed both items.

The moment he did, the crow looked at every person on deck with eerily intelligent eyes… and smirked.

Then, its body dissolved into swirling black feathers and vanished into thin air.

"…A Devil Fruit ability?" Leo muttered, slightly unsettled. It was strange enough for a crow to appear in the middle of the open sea, but this weirdness was on another level.

His attention quickly shifted to the Log Pose in his hands. The needle was pointing in the complete opposite direction of Alabasta. Engraved at its base were two words - Lulusia Kingdom.

Both Robin and Bon Clay noticed the anomaly but before they could say anything, Leo moved away from them and unrolled the letter.

[I hope you are not the kind of pirate who forgets his debt...

Mission Brief: The Revolutionary Army requires your assistance in the Lulusia Kingdom.

The people there are attempting to rise against their tyrant king, but the World Government has noticed our movements. Cipher Pol agents and Marines have already begun suppressing the rebellion before it can properly ignite.

You are to go there immediately but not to harm the royal family.

If something happened to the current rulers, the Government will use that as justification to tighten control over the kingdom and erase the revolution entirely.

There is also something else lurking within Lulusia that has drawn the Government's attention. Something significant enough for them to move this quickly.

At present, we do not know what it is, so be wary of it.

Your objective is simple:

Drive out the Marines and Government agents interfering within the kingdom strategically. Stabilize the situation long enough for the Revolutionary Army to establish its foothold there.

Several Revolutionaries are already on their way, alongside higher officers.

You have Two weeks.

Of course, you are free to ignore this request.

But I would advise against making an enemy of a man the world calls its "Worst Criminal."

Safe sailing...

Monkey D. Dragon] (Gazing toward the east)

'Yeah… staging a coup in a World Government affiliated kingdom,' Leo thought with curses. 'Not a big deal at all… Dragon, you bastard.'

Suddenly, Leo's gaze fell on the artificial eye resting silently on his shoulder. Its eerie pupil met his own before it bloomed into soft pink petals and vanished.

'…Damn it.'

Leo cursed under his breath. 'She read the entire letter.'

He turned around. Robin sat elegantly on a lounger, calmly sipping her coffee as if she hadn't just spied on a highly confidential message.

"Another troublesome woman…" Leo muttered, folding the letter with a sigh. "Well? Since you've already seen everything, what do you think?"

Before Robin could answer, Leo's eyes widened recalling the signature at the end of the letter.

"…Monkey D. Dragon?!" A heavy silence fell over the deck.

"Wait a second…" Leo's face twisted in realization. "Monkey D. Luffy… Monkey D. Garp… Don't tell me that bastard is actually Luffy's father?" Robin's eyebrows rose as her curiosity now piqued.

Leo ran a hand through his hair, genuinely frustrated.

"What the hell is wrong with that family? Why are all three generations haunting me?"

Robin leaned back against her chair, her expression calm yet intrigued.

"What a terrifying bloodline… The Hero of the Marines, his son becoming the World's Worst Criminal and his grandson running around as a pirate."

Robin took another slow sip of her coffee before speaking in a serious voice.

"If I may offer some advice…" Her blue eyes met his. "In the Grand Line, one can still survive after offending the Marines… even the World Government."

A bitter shadow crossed her eyes for a brief moment as she recalled her own situation.

"But those who dare cross Dragon tend to disappear from the seas entirely. That's the rumor, at least."

'He found me in the middle of the sea using a strange crow… Does that man have an entire network of those things?' Leo felt a chill run down his spine.

"Fortunately, Dragon doesn't actively hunt pirates like us, unless we interfere with the Revolutionary Army's business or offend him," Robin continued. "Still… I would advise you to repay that favor as soon as possible."

"Yeah…" Leo sighed, rubbing his forehead. "I'll just do that and cut ties with that ridiculous family once and for all."

Even as he spoke those confident words, haunting memories from Loguetown resurfaced in his mind.

That overwhelming wave of Conqueror's Haki, the suffocating pressure that had frozen his entire being.

Dragon could have killed him dozens of times back then and Leo wouldn't have been able to resist.

Then there was that strange martial art and the terrifyingly Advanced Armament Haki capable of shattering Seastone cuffs, which are said to be harder than diamonds.

Instinctively, Leo rubbed his wrist. The mere memory of those humiliating days of slavery, when his Devil Fruit powers were sealed along with half his strength, sent a sharp pain through his body.

'…Let's put pride aside for now.' A rough plan quickly formed in his head.

'I will just break in, torture the corrupt royalty a little, turn them into obedient puppets, that should solve the rebellion issue and leave. Simple.'

Unfortunately, simple plans can rarely keep up with reality.

"Still," Leo said, gazing at horizon, "we're already close to Nanohana. I'm not turning back now." His eyes sharpened. "I'll meet Crocodile tomorrow… then head straight for the Lulusia Kingdom."

"Lulusia Kingdom?" Bon Clay suddenly piped up, having been quietly listening to their conversation the entire time.

Leo turned toward him. "Yeah, Do you know anything about it?"

Bon Clay struck a dramatic pose, placing both hands above his head. "Not much, except that it's quite close to Kamabaka Kingdom — the island of the fabulous Queen Iva! Ohh, my dear Iva-chan… How I wish I could break into Impel Down and rescue her from those hateful Marines!"

Leo pinched the bridge of his nose. "Come back to the topic, Lulusia Kingdom."

"Oh, right! Of course…" Bon Clay clapped his hands together. "I don't know much myself, but Jojo knows that place like the back of his hand. He actually grew up there! Apparently the princess of that kingdom was madly in love with him. It got so bad that he barely escaped with his life, so he ran away and joined Baroque Works."

Bon Clay waved his hand dismissively. "I know he's a little handsome, but come on… do you really believe that story?"

Both Leo and Robin stared at Bon Clay in silence.

They believed every word of it.

Jojo was a coward through and through, but he wasn't a liar.
