Chapter 26 - Chapter 24 — The Age of Orbit

I. The Grand Opening of Sky Gate Port

The Continental Land Spaceport stood finished.

3,000 kilometers of polished launch platforms.

Massive shuttle towers.

Orbital elevator rails stretching into the sky.

Daniel stood at the edge of the launch deck.

Wind blew dramatically.

He folded his arms.

"Snow."

"Yes, Supreme Commander."

"Does it look cool?"

A pause.

"Aesthetic rating: 9.4 out of 10."

Daniel nodded seriously.

"Acceptable."

Behind him, Fleet Admiral Seraphine coughed.

"Supreme Commander… the fleet awaits your official speech."

Daniel turned.

"Yes."

He stepped forward dramatically.

Then tripped slightly on a launch pad groove.

Recovered instantly.

"…As I was saying."

Snow:

"Recording paused for dignity preservation."

Daniel:"Delete that."

"Already archived."

II. The First Launch

Shuttles lined up in perfect formation.

Governor Helena stood beside Daniel.

"This is historic."

Daniel nodded.

"Yes. Today we officially move from ground rats to space rats."

Helena blinked.

"…That is not a flattering analogy."

Daniel:

"Fine. Space eagles."

Snow:

"Correction: Current shuttle model resembles rectangular cargo bricks."

Daniel looked up at the shuttle.

"…Space bricks."

Launch countdown began.

5…

4…

3…

One shuttle engine sputtered.

Paused.

Everyone froze.

Snow:

"Minor fuel calibration delay."

Daniel whispered:

"Please don't explode. Please don't explode."

Engine stabilized.

All shuttles lifted smoothly.

Daniel exhaled.

"Good. We look competent."

III. Commander Meeting — Growth Report

High Command gathered again.

Snow projected stats:

Fleet Strength: 28 warshipsDrone Count: 15,400Population: 2,300Space Station Progress: 63%

Daniel leaned back in his chair.

"So… are we overpowered yet?"

Aris answered calmly:

"Against Haven? Yes."

Lyra:

"Against unknown galactic powers? Unknown."

Daniel:

"Good. I don't want to be final boss yet."

Silence.

Snow:

"Recording 'Final Boss Energy' as motivational descriptor."

Daniel:

"Snow, no."

IV. Aurora Station — First Incident

Three days into orbital construction:

Alert.

Construction Drone #4482 misaligned docking ring.

Result:

One habitat module slightly tilted.

Governor Helena looked horrified.

"It looks crooked."

Daniel stared at it.

"…It does."

Snow:

"Angle deviation: 2.3 degrees."

Daniel:

"That is emotionally 45 degrees."

Emergency correction drones deployed.

Lyra smirked slightly.

"You wanted fast expansion."

Daniel:

"I didn't say slightly ugly expansion."

V. Haven Reaction — With Humor

Inside Haven's observatory:

Sol stared upward.

"They built another ring."

Reth folded his arms.

"Do they sleep?"

Mara replied:

"If they do, they build while sleeping."

A Haven technician whispered:

"…Can we borrow their engineers?"

Reth:

"We can't even borrow their sky."

VI. Daniel and Snow — Late Night Talk

Daniel stood alone watching the orbital traffic.

"Snow."

"Yes."

"How much have we built in less than two months?"

"Projected equivalent of pre-war Terra's 12-year expansion cycle."

Daniel blinked.

"…Oh."

Pause.

"Are we rushing?"

"You are enthusiastic."

Daniel nodded slowly.

"Nice way of saying I'm impatient."

"Yes."

He looked toward the stars.

"One day the galaxy is going to show up."

"Probability increasing."

Daniel smiled slightly.

"Good."

Snow paused.

"You sound excited."

Daniel shrugged.

"Growing is fun."

Pause.

"But maybe slow down the crooked station modules."

"Acknowledged."

VII. Subtle Character Comedy

During ground expansion:

A young engineer saluted Daniel nervously.

"Sir, the orbital elevator can now transport 3,000 tons per minute."

Daniel nodded seriously.

"Can it transport pizza?"

The engineer froze.

"…Sir?"

Snow replied calmly:

"Food transport efficiency: High."

Daniel:

"Good. Civilization complete."

VIII. Tone Control

Important:

We don't turn this into parody.
